True, but I am thinking in terms of copyright (and what we can probably get away with). There is still 4 years to go (2001 was released in 1968 so copyright ends in 2018) before the movie (and hence its soundtrack) are out copyright.

I know somebody might jump me in the back alleys for this, but why not also combine Castlevania creatures/graphics/music into Ravenloft. They seem like good partners.

About copyright I think you could use that as long as you don't obtain any economic benefice. But I don't know too much about such things....

I believe that some of the D&D rules change in Ravenloft--such turn undead becoming more difficult. Have these rules changes been implemented by somebody? (I'm just curious is all.) Thanks. :)

I was thinking of trying my hand at some Ravenloft-themed music. Not sure I can compete with Ligeti though

OK just came across a couple of interesting places in the real world. Normally I would have posted this in my Just drool thread but these 2 places so belong in this thread. Both of the following links take you to a page full of (google) images of the respective places. First there is Blood Falls, Antarctica. Then there is Blood Pond Hell, Japan.

@merricksdad

and for anyone interested. i have a compilation of castlevania music straight from several games such as 'bloodlines', and the super nes version. They are already converted into .bmu's and included with a hak ready for anyones use.

However as a reminder it *isnt* related to the ravenloft theme. but if enough people want i can release it

So it didnt take very long, but i managed to make a composition of "Castlevania - Bloodline" and already sent in

If anyone isnt sure which one that is, its the Sega Genesis Version;

I also made a Castle prefab from my Castlevania module i did a few years back, it can be used as a Castle Ravenloft, or a Castle Dracul. which requires CEP 2.4

Eh, while they share some similar themes, motifs, and tropes, Castlevania is different in tone and pacing from Ravenloft. Castlevania would have been a better fit for the Gothic challenge a few months back. I'd prefer to see stuff specific to the Ravenloft setting in this challenge. However, I'm not in charge of this so do what you like. ;D I'm a fan of both and could probably find uses for any Castlevania stuff anyway.

About copyright I think you could use that as long as you don't obtain any economic benefice. But I don't know too much about such things....

That's actually incorrect. It's up to the copyright holder to enforce their copyrights, and they usually don't bother with small potatoes stuff like NWN mods, but it depends on who owns the copyrights. In the case of Strahd's Possession, that game was produced by SSI, Inc., which was eventually purchased by Ubisoft in 2001.

You could sidestep the issue by making an arranged version of the music, similar to what the folks at Overclocked Remix do with music from other games, which falls under Fair Use.

We did scripts for this over at Ravenloft: Prisoners of the Mist, the PW server I DM at. Basically, all Turning attempts are 1 DC higher by default, and no Turning attempt will ever destroy undead.

Turning can be harder in particularly evil places called Sinkholes of Evil. These are places like haunted houses, the site of a grisly murder, or the lair of a darklord like Strahd. This is accomplished by placing an integer variable on the area (SinkHoleLevel) and giving it a number from 1-5. When the script for Turning Undead is run, it checks the area for that variable and increases the DC by that amount.

I agree with that, after all this challenge is about D&D Ravenloft campaign setting. I Don't wanna be too restrictive, but too much things like Castlevania stuff could ruin Ravenloft Background. Thanks for your ideas and content anyway.

About undead, I think that they are not necessarily more powerful in Ravenloft, but they are new types on undead that are more powerful than the common ones, for example a common zombie in Ravenloft is like a zombie in any other setting, but a Strahd's zombie is another matter...

@ Wall3T For my part I think the music that you showed in that media clip is too jaunty for use as general background for Ravenloft. On the other hand I think the castle pre-fab looks great and I can't personally see any reason not to send that in as long as it hasn't been available to the NwN community before.

I want to ask.

Does the racial variations for undead creatures count for this?

(I have finished some Q based goblin zombie.)

Working on simple mist golem.

I think that would be OK for Ravenloft, there are demihuman vampire subtypes, so why not demihuman zombies...

The music from the 1995 game: Ravenloft Stone Prophet, converted to NWN.

http://en.wikipedia....:_Stone_Prophet

This is the second of the 2 PC RPGs Based on Ravenloft, and good ones BTW. I personally spent quite hours with it in the 90s, and was my first contact with Ravenloft.

I have converted Strahd's Possession music from a MIDi files that I had found. But for Stone Prophet music I have obtain the files from Youtuve videos. I think they are the most Iconic from that game. This files have been edited in order to reduce or delete the excessive silent pauses and other issues...

Also, I have found the full Stone prophet OST in MIDI format, unfortunatelly this version, with have 76 files, only have named them with a number. Making very hard to discover what of them are for battle, and what for background music etc. or on what background were they used. I like to add good descriptions in the "ambientmusic.2da" file, so I'll be not happy with adding just numbers for them. So i think that this is enought for now.

  • This are all of the Ravenloft music themes, that I have converter until now. Please let me know if you think that I have forgot something:

Eh, while they share some similar themes, motifs, and tropes, Castlevania is different in tone and pacing from Ravenloft. Castlevania would have been a better fit for the Gothic challenge a few months back. I'd prefer to see stuff specific to the Ravenloft setting in this challenge. However, I'm not in charge of this so do what you like. ;D I'm a fan of both and could probably find uses for any Castlevania stuff anyway.

Most games share that stuff, but to say that Castlevania is a different tone and pacing from Ravenloft, you must be talking about the style of game play, not the content within. There is nothing about the music or creatures which is more "gothic". Also, it is my take that anything goes in just about any setting, which is why Spelljammer stuff is found everywhere. To even suggest that something even slightly related might not fit, kinda makes me think Ravenloft as a setting is more exclusive than inclusive, and I kinda got the feeling of the opposite being true. The setting itself is based on the theft of content from other worlds. IMO, nothing about Ravenloft would be more complete without adding in content from a scenario that shares even the slightest amount of content.

So let me add to the suggestion and offer up creature suggestions from Ghosts and Goblins and Gargoyle's Quest:

xIgjn7x.png

LOL! Ok, so I have always thought this creature was ridiculous, and kinda looks like something out of "Where the wild things are", but if he was modified to resemble something more like Tanar'ri, me might be more fitting anywhere.

I'd also like to bring up the bone golem modification from Icewind Dale, which I am also currently working on:

uN21YzE.png

Instead of finishing anything for this challenge, I will probably just release them individually during October for use with Halloween events.
