I don't play MP - but was curious why DA went MP.
Were a lot of fans requesting MP or is more because an MP option seems to be the way of the gaming world right now?
Just curious!

The biggest reason for me to get the game.
after they nailed it with the ME3 mp im sure it was a big deal...only "rumors" of the MP made me join this forum looking for official info. After DA2 I decided I didn't care much for Dragon Age anymore....then they put in MP and here I am ![]()
With the frostbite 3 and stuff the game looks good SP as well though so I am also excited for it after learning more. I won't play the SP for quite some time i figure though.
In game development there are two things you want to do.
1) attract a huge following of fans to buy your game. This is what the single-player portion of the game is expected to do.
2) keep people playing the game long enough to develop and sell DLC. This is what they want the multi-player portion to do. It also has the added benefit of generating some revenue by selling virtual currency for those not patient enough to earn the loot by playing.
Different developers have different ideas about how to keep people playing. Mods, for instance, can greatly expand the longevity of a game. Personally, I would like a return to larger expansions myself as a way of encouraging people to replay the game. The co-development of single-player and multi-player tends to have a very negative effect on the single-player game.
they did good pulling me back into ME3 too. It wouldn't be but a few weeks after I got bored and quit playing that new maps and weapons would come out and bring me right back. Whoever was in charge of that was on point IMO.
Easy, peeps like me still playing and enjoy ME3 co-op...so why not?
Very.
How popular is MP?
It can be great fun.
When I played ME3's MP, I wasn't expecting to have as much fun as I was - and with 2 copies of the game, and siblings to team up with, it became massively fun.
Just looking at my N7 HQ, I've played over 200hrs of just the MP alone, sometimes I catch a fever bug for it and need to get on and play. Right now I'm currently on a DA:O/DA: Awakenings/DA:2 binge, getting multiple games together for when Keep comes out and I can see what it's capable of.
But I planned on diving straight into DA:I - and right now, it's only giving me more reasons to do so.

I think BioWare has always been interested in MP
they were able to do a nice job with ME3 so they decided to try to keep it going with DA:I
if that is a success, i would expect to see it in most of their games moving forward
on a personal note, leading up to ME3 i was not interested in MP at all
not interested in MP in any game really
but because I am a big fan of ME and BioWare in general I tried out the ME3MP demo and loved it
I played it right up until a couple months ago.
And I'm now a lot more open to games I may not have given a second look 2 years ago
Destiny, BF Hardline and others
my suggestion to people who, like I was, are apprehensive about MP in DA is to give it a chance.
It's a world you already like, populated with players who, for the most part, also like/love the DA universe.
I'm looking forward to it. It's not a deal maker by any means, as I was fully commited to getting DA:I before MP was announced, but it's a nice extra to have. I didn't play a huge amount of it, but ME3's MP was fun, which gives me optimism that Bioware will get it right this time too.
It's something you should give a try Duckley even if you are not an mp player. There were quite a few people that never played mp or had a real bad feeling about it before mass effect, gave it a try and after a few games getting their legs under them found it very enjoyable. Most ardent single player, players wil play though sp a number of times before even thinking about mp but I would say it is worth a try sooner or later.
BioWare games excite people because they get to play in a world with great characters. Liara, Tali, Mordin, Leliana, Merrill, and others are all so great, but the drawback to that is that you play by yourself, and then share your adventures in places like this forum.
The MP aspect of Mass Effect 3 was the thing that broke that solo experience open so perfectly. We got to play in the Reaper War with each other withe same style of gameplay as we had with Shepard, and the way in which BioWare translated that made for over 1,300 hours of gameplay for me over two and a half years, SP and MP combined. My friends and I got Best of the Best banners together, and those months of teamwork and figuring out the kits and combat strategies were the most fun I ever had gaming.
Seeing what they've shown from the DAI MP, I think they've kept what works, and changed/added elements based on what they learned from ME3 and what a Dragon Age co-op mode would need to feel like Dragon Age. PLUS we get a great-looking story that has the potential to be BioWare's best ever. I can't wait to play this game.
I'm looking forward to the multiplayer. it allowed me to get a couple of people into Mass Effect that weren't by playing it with me and I'm hoping they advance on it and give us a bit more to work with and maybe even variety in the same old maps. So I'm looking forward to it.
I usually play multiplayer games and when i heard that a MP mode would come to Dragon Age i was kind of choked but still happy that it didn’t conflict with the Singelplayer. I think it's a great idea and i would love to play together with friends.
I think that the MP could be a big selling point, I just started to play some Diablo 3 and I’ve heard that the MP is similar to D3.
But I still think that the majority of the playtime will be from the Singelplayer.
I don't care much for MP (just a personal preference as I am not into hack-and-slash) but there are players who loved it in ME 3.
From my perspective, if ME 3 MP had not fared well enough, I don't think MP would have been planned for DAI. I'll try it again in DAI just as I did in ME 3 and if I don't like it, I'll just stick to the SP game.
I don't care about MP. There was a poll around somewhere about this, which may interest you.
And here it is:

It's pointing to the 'thank you' since I already participated. I hope it works correctly for you.

It looks more similar to Gauntlet Legends to me. Then again, that's not so far off from D3 either.
Because microtransactions.
I would like to have play the MP to work cross platform!
I never played mp before but I got Guild Wars 2 and it was mp. Well, I became addicted. I loved having a group of people I never knew before become close friends. I even went to San Diego Comic Con with some one I met through my guild. I can't wait to see how DAI plays with the multi player option.
