So... can we have an update on console commands?

The multiplayer cat is out of the bag, but I'd still like to know if we'll be privileged enough to have a developer console and commands this time again.

Sadly, I doubt there will be console commands because BioWare hates fun.  They only want you to play their game how THEY want you to.

My magic eight ball says we won't have a developer console.

I'd love for my magic eight ball to be wrong though.

Yup.  Unfortunately I think you guys are right.  But Chronoid, they were nice enough to put them in the last two games.  I fear that the transition to Frostbite changes things though.

BF4 has a few console commands I think.  They're mostly of the "Show FPS" variety, but I guess the capability is there.

There kinda has to be a developer console for bug hunting purposes, if nothing else. Whether they find a way to disable it permanently when the game ships is another matter.

Highly unlikely. Bioware doesn't want to make hacker's life easier.

Yet they had one for both DAO and DA2.

Honestly, I don't think BioWare gets that defensive about how people play their games.

The only reason I think they *might* try to disable to console completely is MP.

There are plenty of games where console commands are enabled in the single player component but disabled in the MP.

Due to the fact that it is using an engin derived from the Frostbite 3 game engin there are console commands for debugging and whatnot, but they will not have console commands so that you can customize, create, or change items/content.  Accept it, it's not like it's going to ruin your game and if it does, well find another game.

This is not like skyrim where you can do anything with console with no consequences.

They've never disabled to console before. I don't see why they'd start now.

Frankly, that would be a much bigger deal than the PC UI they've already released, and they said they told us about that now so we wouldn't be surprised by it (though they did bury the news by releasing it on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend).

If they were planning to disable the dev console, I think they would have told us that by now. Losing killallhostiles would dramatically change how some people play the game.

How is "killallhostiles" even fun??? maybe for an achievement or some crap, but that's just dumb....

Removing the console would be annoying as I use it a lot. Primarily to load in equipment from mods so my characters can look good, but still...:P

I can't speak for DAI because the game isn't out yet, but when you've got the console enabled, story achievements update (side with the werewolves, let Loghain take the killing blow), but challenge ones might not (slay 1000 darkspawn, open 500 chests). It's pretty erratic what gets updated and what doesn't. I do know that enabling the console stops your heroes from being uploaded.

Not everyone who plays with the console enabled is actually cheating, by the way. Some people make mods, and others may want to add flavor items to their inventories so they can take specific screenshots (When I play the HN origin, I usually put Cousland in noble clothes as opposed to armor because I have a hard time believing that pup puts on armor just to meet dad's old friend, Arl Howe.) Plus, I mod, so I need the console for the same reasons the devs do: bug hunting.

That's kind of my point. A lot of people use it for cosmetic reasons.

In DA2, I wound up using it a lot because I'd always forget to disable Death Siphon, which meant that items that spawn on character death would fail to be added to the inventory. Sometimes, it was a minor inconvenience. Aveline wouldn't get her Act 3 armor upgrade or An Errant Letter would never become available, but there were a few times where the game would stop dead with no way to complete the main quest until I consoled in the item. Also, I once had to use the console to clear/reset Isabela's romance flags because the game bugged out and she never showed up at the mansion.

I'm not saying everyone does the "killallhostiles" command by any means. I have modded by installing files on my DA:O pc version and had plenty of fun with cosmetic and other such things. I wouldn't kill everyone enemy though.... that'd be too boring

I would feel like god tho....

There's no such thing as cheating in a single-player game.

I found DA2's combat incredibly tedious. Being unable to just skip it would be awful.

Alright, Unnamed Warden, you got me there. There's nothing quite like coming home from a lousy day at work, firing up the game, and blasting your way through a level or two to get your agressions out on some darkspawn. But it's more fun to load up on some OP gear (especially stuff with Messy Kills) and faceroll through on easy because that way you can watch the decapitations and imagine that they're the things that are causing the stress in the first place. Which probably says more about my mental health than I'd like people to know, so I'm going to shut up now.

My favorite thing to do with console commands is become a giant Darkspawn Ogre and pick dudes up and punch them in the face or throw boulders at people across the map.  Can't do that without console commands.

I have actually (once :P ) used killallhostiles to debug.  In one of the DA2 night fights at the docks, an enemy fell off the street during the second Lord Harrowmont fight, near the exit, landing behind the exit.  I could not attack it with any spell, nor could I target it with Bianca, nor could I just leave the area while locked in combat.  I probably would have had to task manager the game closed if I hadn't been running on the console.  Granted, most of the time I have used the console in the past was to cheat, but I did have to use it correctly once as well.

i wish it was Because skyRim sold like what 20millon I don't think any Biowear game has come close to those Numbers in the slightest and with Battelfield 4 being the Buggy mess that it was I hope that DAI won't be the Next Bugfest
