I suppose being a cowardly narcissist who influences the plot is better than a wall decoration no matter the personality

I just like to start a topic and let  people weigh in.   I don't want to weigh in too much myself as that might influence the discussion.

You are right.

Many things can be lost by having choices that ruin the game in various possible ways. Playersexual characters are not it IMO. I don't mind them at all because I can ignore them completely while another player who is interested in it can romance their face off.

Then we must disagree. A character whose entire sexuality revolves around the player makes them look shallow to me, and destroys my immersion, for reasons I've already outlined. After I've completed an RPG, I usually start another game as a different gender/race/class/etc as well as making different choices and I see how things are different. The more different they are, the more I feel like part of the game's world. That's part of why I love The Witcher 2 so much. On my second playthrough, when I made different choices than I did on my first, I felt as if I was playing a completely different game. So for me to do a second playthrough of an RPG as a different gender, only to find that all potential love interests treat me the exact same way, results in me feeling like the world revolves around me, and that these characters are seriously lacking in depth.

We have different opinions. That's cool.

It is possible for you to completely ignore romances though right? These characters aren't all up in your face constantly begging you take them to bed are they? How is your immersion ruined if these romances only exist if you pursue them?

A character being playersexual doesn't affect the characters depth in my eyes because it's such a minor thing to me. It doesn't change the story or setting at all. Unless of course my LI is a devout anti mage Andrastian Templar and my character is a demon summoning, Tevinter worshipping maleficar. But then again...when you love somebody :P...am I right?

I wouldn't say that she's so much cowardly as she's self-centered. She's similar to Morrigan (who is actually worse than she is) in that her own survival supersedes that of others. Of course, all of this is irrelevant if you influence her character enough.

If I have to ignore or consciously close myself off to an aspect of a game in order to maintain my immersion, then that's the game's problem, not mine. No developer in their right mind would ever say something like "Yeah, if you just ignore that 3-headed giant yeti who follows you everywhere, you'll find my game is a perfectly immersive simulation of the real world!" To me, the "romances" exist whether I pursue them or not. Flirtatious lines of dialogue shouldn't even be an option if my character isn't the right gender.

This ground has been trodden in a lot of threads at this point, so I'll keep my comments brief, because this can't help but be repitition of what I and others have said elsewhere many times. With that out of the way, two quick points: (1) Was it ever definitively established that the LI's in DA2 are playersexual as opposed to just bisexual? I'm not so clear on this one. (2) Being playersexual, bisexual or whatever doesn't mean that your entire sexuality revolves around the PC. A bisexual character could in principle still reject the PC on a variety of grounds, whether it be the PC's moral outlook or even something as trivial as bad breath. Being bisexual doesn't mean you are magically deprived of all agency as a person.

In DAO, it was possible to sleep with Morrigan right after Lothering if you chose the right conversation options. By contrast, Leliana's romance took a bit more time to develop during the course of the game. In ME, most of the love interests will date you no matter how much of a genocidal maniac or overall jerk you are. Being able to initiate a romance with Tali after treating her like crap in ME1, turning Veetor over to Cerberus and generally just expressing rabidly pro-Cerberus sympathies at every opportunity didn't do much for my immersion, and I don't think the fact that Tali won't date Femshep really helps anything here.

if by "strong" you mean a walking STD bastion who is selfish and non-committal

A frigid ice queen whose ego rules the room and believes that no one else can have fun until she is (i.e. she finally finds enough guys willing to settle for her), isn't all that much better.

I swear, these people that beat up outgoing sexual types whilst simultaneously seeming fixated on them just need to get over themselves and get together with one, that's honestly the only thing I can glean from that kind of conversation anymore.

So you're equating a line of possible dialogue that you can easily skip with a giant 2 headed yeti that follows your PC around everywhere?

Not even remotely the same thing and you know it. I think that you find gay and lesbian stuff to be icky and gross and you don't want to see it in your games. I'm not mad at you. To each his/her own. Personally seeing that kind of stuff in relation to certain genders doesn't fill me with joy or anything near it but I understand that i'm not the only one playing the game and I wouldn't want to take away from someone elses enjoyment of the game over something that I could very easily ignore if not miss altogether.

A poster earlier in this thread mentioned Steve Cortez in relation to BioWare becoming too PC. I imagine this has to do with Steve being gay or hispanic or both. Gays and hispanics exist here in the real world and many of them play video games and desire representation in those games. I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if the shoe were on the other foot. But then again I could be wrong and your opinions have nothing to do with this and you are actually really peeved at seeing one little line of dialogue.

I assume then that you never visited the Pearl or the Blooming Rose or engaged in any sexual activity with a character that didn't tell you that they were a virgin?

You never know how many sexual partners someone has had unless you can read their mind. Every time you have sex you're taking a chance.

Villify Isabella all you want but she is simply someone who is upfront and honest about her sexuality where as a lot of others are ashamed, shy, or even hypocritical and deceitful about it.

No they don't. They are simply puppets to do my bidding.

As for the topic at hand...not really no. Don't let the BSN give you a clear picture of the General Fan base of Bioware. BSN is home to the vocal groups who like o project their opinions...granted they some times beat those opinions to death for whenever their topics either loose steam or get locked a new one shows up a few days later.
