I'm glad to see Bioware is making the cover of their game unisex.

AND have made it so no one can offer valid and rational criticism or a negative opinion on her without being lumped in with those psychopaths.

Seriously I hate when people do stupid crap like that. They just weaken what ever they're trying to say that's not steeped in stupidity but nooo attacking the arguement and not the person is too much like right.

The DAI cover is totally sexist as it only has a female dragon on the cover.  Male dragons are made inferior by design and are never prominently displayed on box art.

This is an outrage!

.

I've always seen things like coverart, trailers, etc.. as merely giving the consumer a taste, "hey this product exists, you should look closer at it".

If you buy a game solely on the ability to play a woman I'd say you are missing out on a lot of really good games and series out there, but to each their own.

I only buy games with the ability to play a women, because after 20 years or so playing mostly male characters, I got tired of it.   That's not saying I don't play a male character, I play male Shepard, Hawke, Mordecai, from borderland, but the games I now purchase give me the option to play either.  I'm just not interested in any game that puts the gender limit on me.

I have had games given to me, bioshock and the 2013 Tomb Raider, but I wouldn't have purchased either of these.   :)

I like the cover.

They have done a few covers I have liked and some not so much.  My favorites were KOTOR with Bastila and Malak and HK-47 on it  and Jade Empire.  The had two main character choices in the cover, I think it was Furious Ming and Wu the Lotus Blossom.

I also liked the one for Never Winter Nights and Dragon age Origins.  I would have liked DA2 more if it had just been the outlines of images instead of Mr. Hawke.  The first time I saw it, when they were giving bits of information out I thought it looked really good.

i must say I ADORE the cover. It actually took me a long while to figure out you can see a dragon in it.... really XD The way the character is reaching out to it gives it so much strenght! Yea! You are awsome bioware *sends cookies with rainbow and huggies*

I really like covers like that with a scene and I like the ambiguous protagonist because anyone can see themselves in that person.

The other turnoff for me was the shooter aspect as I usually play RPGs, so the cover art was a double "no" for me. But, since I loved DAO and ME2 had such good reviews I picked up the box to learn more. 3 games and many hours later I'm glad I did. How many other people didn't bother to pick up the box and thus missed out on a great game?

I don't buy games solely on the ability to play as a woman. I haven't bought Tomb Raider or Mirror's Edge, for example. What you meant to say was "If you DON'T buy a game solely on the INability to play as a woman I'd say you were missing out on a lot of really good games." That is true, but I don't have that much time to game and can't be bothered to try things I don't find appealing at first sight. My goal isn't to play as many good games as possible but to find a few I really like, and being able to play as a female adds a lot to my enjoyment.

I think Bioware is in a good position to build up a loyal fanbase of "nontraditional" gamers (non-18-25 year old straight white males) that aren't necessarily being captured by the CODs of the world. Older female gamers like me tend to have more disposable income, more brand loyalty and more propensity to recommend (i.e., gift) the games to their friends, all positive things. Bioware can't compete with COD on their own turf but by continuing to make character interaction focused RPGs that appeal to 18-25 year old white males AND 40+ year old minority females they can expand their market share. They just need to get the nontraditional gamers to pick up the box.

OP:

I feel bad for her on getting threatened but I dont listen to her.  Its her opinions of stuff, not mine. I dont care about others opinions. I will look at the games, if the trailers and gameplays dont catch my attention, I will not play it. If it does, and I learn firsthand if the game is good for myself, if not.. I sell it back. Most games I get I tend to keep though, so I know my choices tend to be good, on my own.

Scrap youtube and its opinionated hogwash. Make a decision based on your own accessments of gameplay/trailers and tests of your own. A game maybe good that didnt even realize would be cause went with someone else's stuff.  I watched movies and still watch movies this way. I say, scrap on those movie raters, I found movies I enjoyed that they said were two thumbs down, I found movies they say two thumbs up and I say they are two thumbs down.

In essence, make up your own decision on things you see and watch and no one else's mumbo jumbo.  ;)

Topic at hand, I love the cover. I just wish it was already in my hands.  :P

Isn't there already a thread where this general direction of conversation was going on? Oh, yes, there is

http://forum.bioware...ady-inquisitor/

Did they finally steer that back to actual game discussion or something, since early it was all about things like the OP.

Oh, I guess now it's Xena and barkspawn now. I'm sure they'll love to rehash this there though, and those of us that were actually looking for something DA related might have found it.

Seriously?

Do you purposely go out of your way to be insulting?  How about you not read the thread if it affects your delicate sensibilities.

bringing up professional con-woman Anita Sarkeesian is sure to make things go well

not a con-woman.

while not necessarily agreeable, she delivered.

I almost didn't pick up Mass Effect because looking at the cover I thought I'd have to play as a man. It was only after picking up the box and reading it that I realized I could play as a woman.

But that is like not buying an award winning, best selling book because you hate the cover isn't it?

I am just glad they are not going for the "iconic character" thing as they did with DA 2.

I really don't get it. Isn't Hollywood and music industry way worse in how they represent women. Why is everyone running after games? Sure there are Japanese *** games, but other than than most of the industry is pretty much OK.

The problem is that most people are uncomfortable watching things then doing them. Women are more than happy to put on 25 layers of makeup before going out, but damn the developers if there is a low neck top in the game. If women are worried about equal representation, why not work towards it. Why skip college? Why not pursue professional degrees like Engineering, Medical Sciences, Architecture etc.

I knew so many friends who left their college because they got offers for modelling, acting etc. Women are more than willing to work in porn industry but they are not willing to work as factory workers or as technicians.

In my team of 28 engineers there is only one female. Surely, there are way more women eligible for the job, than most of the morons I work with. But it seems there aren't. Among the field technicians that we have, there are only 3 female techs I know of in US / Canada region.

The more men will see women doing there jobs and doing better than them, the sooner they will realize that the other gender has the same potential.

So instead of appealing to game devs to fix the virtual world, please fix the real world. Because the virtual world is just an imitation of the real world.

It is always easier to blame others than look at oneself. Before those snowflakes from the 'Bioware Social-Justice Network' (BSN) drown me with their judgemental and hateful posts, I just want to say that my comment is aimed at people standing on the both sides of the argument.

taking money for videos, and then plagiarizing the videos from other LPers is not delivering.

Of course, when she uses her own footage you'll get people that say "OMG the only reason why the events happened in game is because Anita is the one playing them out."

This isn't a thread about Anita Sarkeesian though.  So closing it.
