Do you think it's possible another writer (perhaps Kirby) might make you feel differently about Fiona?

Unfortunately, no.  The damage is done.  It would take a complete retcon, and at that point you'd be better served to just create a new character after sending Fiona off.

I don't think Fiona was poorly written.  Quite the opposite, really.  I just don't find her sympathetic.

I found her exceedingly poorly written in the Calling, and Asunder just tossed the final nail in the coffin.

Please, The Calling was actually quite nice. Playing Awakening without reading it is kinda dumb. Fiona was written well in it too.

The lore and backstory it gave doesn't have much to do with Fiona being a poorly done one dimensional facsimile of a character.

Read it again, I edited my post.

She is like one of the major characters in calling and she handles the whole architect thing quite nicely. I liked her more in the calling.

Good for you liking her, i considered the character pretty badly done.

And this was WELL before Asunder came out and she proved herself to be stupid on top of being a fistful of tropes and not much else.

She absolutely could have. Why she chose not to out of some sense of courtesy is a different matter.

I thought it was obvious I was speaking of legal ability, but apparently not.

Meredith could not legally search the quarters of the mages.

Right, and officially, blood magic is illegal in Tevinter.

Legality matters little when no one cares to enforce it.

Which says more about her (in)sanity than the apparent system of checks and balances at the Gallows.

Fiona is an easy target for mockery, i mean she makes it exceedingly easy.

She is indeed that bad. Still hoping for a Celene, Briala, Fiona killfest.

More like you don't even what to give them a chance.

I would not say that.  There seriously worse characters.

And I don't see how Celene and Briala are bad characters. They are made to be flawed.

That's not a retcon.

Wait, How was she badly written. She would have to be a 2 dimensional character with no development, motivations for her actions and easily fade to the back ground for that to happen.

I can't think of any way to split Fiona's attributed accomplishments among three or so characters without it being a massive retcon, so, no. I don't think she can be fixed by simply changing her writer.

First of all it not a retcon. A retcon would be a case of what was stated before was 100% ignored and not acknowledged at all. For it to be retcon, Alistair would be stated to never of gone to his saposive sister and never though of her as his sister. It still happened. This would be called a twist.
Added the fact that the charaters who stated who Alistairs mother was in DAO(Alistair and Logain) only no about through second hand knowledge. That would mean what was stated they can't 100% confirm of being true.

Are you ok? You've quoted me, and are using some of the same words, but you aren't even making an attempt to address anything I've written here.

Do you still have that post of the many deeds and degrees of special of Fiona? It was equal parts informative and hilarious, but I can never quite remember how it went.

Slave->Mage->Warden->Taps Maric/Gives birth to Alistair->Cured of the Taint->Back to the mages->Grand Enchanter->Launches mage rebellion.

How is that bad?

The only special thing about her character is the cure of being tainted. It not unique she was a slave and a mage. And with her history as a senior warden, why would she not became a grand enchanter. Added, she did not start or launch the mage rebellion.

Also there are other characters in dragon age with complex back grounds.

lets see

we have in her background

rags to riches story, defender of the many, oppressed minority (twice), mother to a popular character, lore defiance, rebel leader.

She started the mage rebellion at White Spire after she refused to hand over a suspected serial killer to the templars.

I don't dislike her background so much as I find it weird.

There's a story here that I think needs to be elaborated on or they should have made a new character. I have no problem with an elven slave becoming a Grey Warden. That doesn't suspend my suspension of disbelief. The Grey Wardens draw from all the peoples of the world. I don't mind her being Alistair's mother TOO MUCH. To be honest, I do because Fiona makes Alisatir's mother "special" when she was SPECIAL because she was a maidservant. This is like Superman should date Wonder Woman because Lois Lane isn't a superhero.

Stupid.

I don't even mind her not going through the Calling. Albeit, this is GROUNDBREAKING.

The Wardens would want her studied head-to-toe.

However, HOW THE **** did she go from being a Grey Warden for a couple of decades to leader of the entire Circles?

This is a pretty big promotion for a person who wasn't shown to be THAT capable of a mage and doesn't have any networking capacity for decades.

If it's because she's 20th level, then that's at least an answer but I thought that was a game extrapolation.
