I'm on vacation at the moment... and it's boring. Really, really boring. All I have to do is game. I game for a good ten hours each day I'd say. I've been doing it for about a month and woke up this morning feeling quite ill. I felt sick to my stomach and my head was spinning.

I get ill very rarely so I wondered if it could possibly be all the time I spend at the PC. It's either that or the burgers I had for dinner (that gave me a bit of an upset stomach) but I've never got sick from them before and no one else who ate them got sick.

I also worry about my eye sight. I play in the dark with just a little night light on (my monitor's a CRT). Is that bad for your eyes?

What do you think? Am I gaming too much?

Apart from blisters in my thumbs when Mortal Kombat came out a thousand years ago, no. Never felt ill.
And sometimes i still play 12 hours straight. Hmmm, go to your doctor, maybe you need glasses.:wizard:

Well it's not so much vacation (I'm at home) as it is being unemployed until my job starts again next month. And I don't get paid while I'm off, I just have my holiday pay to see me through so I'm having to be very careful with money. So that leaves playing some old games or (god forbid) reading a book.

Perhaps your body is telling you to excercise a bit. I can play for long stints too, but always break it up with a long walk or something. Apart from anything else it's good for the stomach (and beyond :)), blood circulaion, and also good for the eyes to focus on things at different distances. 10 hours a day for a month is quite a lot if you don't get up and move around imo.

Oh. Well if that's your definition of vacation, then you could say I've been on vacation for nearly a year by now, hahaha.

Almost true. Last October I was playing Jade Empire for first time but still lovin it, and my eyes were constantly roaring at me!(Allergic reaction to a horde of kittens jumping all over my desk and general area.)

Never been ill from playing games too much though, no. At least I don't think so.

I'm an eye doctor. I can tell you that people's eyes don't get damaged from playing computer games in a very dimly lit room. The idea that direct light from a computer is damaging to eyes is incorrect. Some people do experience eyestrain from doing extended near or mid-range tasks (including PC work or PC gaming)  because of how the focusing system works, or because they have uncorrected vision problems. If you are experiencing eye problems, I would recommend that you visit an optometrist or ophthalmologist to have your eyes checked.

If you continue to have stomach problems and a dizzy feeling, please see your primary care doctor or nurse practitioner to rule out other problems unrelated to gaming.

10 hours a day is quite a bit.

Try doing some running/jogging to break the monotony.

I've had stiffness, swelling and cramps in my legs from sitting at my PC playing a game for many hours straight. A lot of that has to do with my really poor posture.

I have a callus on my right wrist, where it touches the desk when I hold a mouse, from the long gaming hours of the past. 15 hours with only short washroom breaks was not so uncommon back then. Way to waste your youth, hehe.

Other than that, some stiffness and cramps in fingers and wrists, mostly on the mouse hand appear from time to time.

I love CRT monitors! Never have to worry about dead pixels and the screen doesn't look fuzzy and crap like LCDs usually do.

Yeah, but good luck finding a good 21" or 22" CRT those days that doesn't have issues. I still have one, but it has been retired into my den some time ago. It's superiour reaction time, refresh rate and colour reproduction doesn't help the fact that the tube's brightness is way off, due to age, I suppose.

lan parties, a diet consisting of pizza, pop, caffeine for an entire weekend and very little sleep = sickness, but hey, thats what we live for.

I'd say break every 4 hours, for 30 mins. Or 2 hours of game, 15 min break. Did anyone mention that staring at a screen doing nothing more than clicking buttons and consuming bad food isn't entirely healthy for you? Hmm....

Never gone through that.

And I've played for 70 hours straight without any sleep what so ever.

Yeah I've given myself headaches with some gaming marathons. I'm assuming this will happen again when ME2 comes out.
