Normally, in the MEU, AI's are created by combining a quantum blue box with a program with adaptive code and a long, expensive learning process.

(do note that using the same adaptive code and the same learning process will not yield the same AI personality. Every personality is different)

Yeah, I've read the wiki-entry, but the so called "quantum blue box" is not explained anywhere. Was there an ingame-explanation in a dialogue, which I forgot or missed?

But with other words, everyone who has a "blue box" can create an AI, right?  And, btw, a "long expensive learning process".... what is considered "expensive" in the MEU?

A quantum blue box is a quantum computer I believe, which actually exist now, sorta; so, they probably didn't feel the need to explain it.

As for expensive, who knows what that means. The reboot of Cerberus certainly doesn't help.

Thx for the link. Really missed to check that out, 'cause I thought, that this kind of computer is indeed pure scifi.

"Expensive":

In ME 2 EDI says -after  the locks have been removed - that Cerberus has an income of several billions p.a.

So I consider "one billion" even in the MEU still as a lot of cash. A pity that there is not more background from the writers.

Still trying to figure out the mechanics on how the Reaper forces make it planetside in those big meteorite fireball things crashing to the surface. I can stomp a husk but it can make planetary reentry. How does this work?

Marauder Shields gives them all armor plating first?

She did. The collectors blew it all up.

Does this logic apply to the things that don't make sense in ME1, too?

I dunno, was ME1 supposed to tie up loose ends?

Those husks took training courses from ODST.

Because the end of the story is where you bring things together, explain it all.  Not heap on yet more WTF-inducing nonsense.

ME1 and ME2 seemed perfectly content in leaving quite a bit of WTF-inducing nonsense hanging around at the ends of their stories, even introducing more.

Explain it all? Sorry, but plenty of trilogies and other long-form series leave oodles of things unanswered in their conclusions. And it's not like ME3 didn't bring some things together and explain things.

And I was counting on ME3 actually providing some answers to those questions.

Explain things?  Like "organic energy" and nonsense like that?

That's on you, then, because clean-up duty isn't required of the final installment in a trilogy.

Well, I mean, the nonsensical idea of an organic essence has existed since Shiala's description of the Cipher and the Thorian's process of creating it.

And remember what Morpheus says people were turned into in The Matrix, about the potential of the human body:

It's not on me, it's on Bioware to tell a coherent story.  And to clean up their own messes rather than simply declare the mess nonexistent.  Ideally cleanup duty doesn't take place in the final act.  But it's gotta happen sometime.

Of course, it also helps if they have a freaking clue what kind of story they're going to tell at the start as well.

If something is nonsense -- literally, that which cannot be made sense of -- shouldn't we be blaming the installment it came from for introducing it in the first place, rather than the sequel for not making nonsense become suddenly sensible? They did try to do that with things like the Cronos Station logs about Project Lazarus, but I wouldn't say they pulled it off.

I'm just glad that stuff like genetic diversity was abandoned in ME3.

The genetic diversity stuff isn't too bad. It seems like most people's objection to it is from personal knowledge that isn't the case in real life, but if the game remains consistent about it I don't see the problem. The 'mass effect' and Element Zero are guilty of the exact same thing, and those are a much bigger part of the story and lore. If the series did have to have the anthropocentrism I would rather it be grounded in some tangible reason like that; rather than being the species that gave birth to space Jesus.
