MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

We're not allowed to learn which elven deity is represented by which tattoo design?

From Masterjon to Laidlaw:

Question: If choose elf as my race can I remove my dalish tattoos?

Answer: No, but you can make them pretty faint.

[...]

From Potato Cat to Laidlaw:

Question: Will we know which elven god they represent?

Answer: Nope.

While I'm all for the Dalish Inquisitor having a blood writing face tattoo, or vallaslin, since it's part of the lore for all Dalish to receive such a design as a rite of passage (and the Inquisitor is hardly a piddling teenager), I don't understand why we won't get a chance to learn which vallaslin design represents which elven god. Since it's part of the lore for Dalish to receive the vallaslin as a rite of passage no matter what, shouldn't we also be able to learn which design represents which deity so we can better understand the in-game lore, make a more informed choice, and just improve character and roleplay investment overall?

It just seems very odd to me to require vallaslin design, each design of which represents an elven deity, but then not reveal which design represents which deity.

I guess it isn't really that important. They're just Dalish cultural designs. They can represent whatever the player wants them to. They probably don't all represent gods. Even if the guesses from the DAO ones are correct, then there were new ones in DA 2.

The unofficial guides are good enough for me.  I mean, most of them are pretty straightforward when you think about it.  Let's see, I have a bow and arrow tattooed across my face... now what Creator would that represent?  :P  As long as the ones in DA:I aren't totally abstract, we should be able to figure them out if Bioware won't tell us.

I just find most of the Valashin annoying and uncomplimentary to the character wearing them typically :(

I'm all for using the scheme that one poster linked to as a guideline, I just think that since they are culturally significant, and since (in-game) the Dalish do think they represent something, we as players should also have that information.

If that's true, I'm not sure the 'Halla Mother' was the best fit for my Warden, but oh well, it was the best looking one. :3

Awww we have to do the face tattoos for elves? Well there goes the one elf I had in mind to play unless I find one I really like. Though I agree that's pretty weird that we don't get to know what it means AND are forced to have one I'm assuming there was no room in the CC for a little description box for the Dalish tattoos.

I'm just now imaging Solas trying to make a conversation about your tat and asking the reasons you picked that god with the poor player just facepalming in the background.

lol...

Solas: Ah so you are Dalish? Tell me, why did you choose your tattoo?

Inquisitor: Erm.... well... you have to take that up with Bioware, cause I don't have the slightest idea wtf this symbolizes.

Solas:  ........ *walks away*

I think I'll just pick the least obnoxious looking one and make it as faint as humanly possible. Something about those tattoos could use improvement. At least add some minimalist options that aren't as loud.

We're not getting in-game descriptions of what they mean? Is that what I'm understanding?

I don't see why they can't us tell us, especially seeing as it looks like we are getting new ones. Maybe if the older designs are still there I will pick one of them and use the guessed guide.

It is a shame that such an important part of the Dalish elf upbringing has been short changed because they did not think just to add something simple as a couple of lines to explain which tattoo represents which elf god poor showing really.

This just makes me wonder whether or not Bioware has even given them meanings, I'm thinking the only explanation they could probably give us is that they look cool or that they look like something elves would put on their face...

I probably shouldn't browse forums while only half awake, as I read the title as saying that the Dalish Inquisitor must have vaseline. Which, admittedly, is probably true if she's interested in Iron Bull...

A lot of the designs are pretty obvious in the designs who they represent. Hearthkeeper is the tattoos with the flame in the middle of your forehead. The curly one around your cheeks and eyes is the Halla one etc.

Some of them are harder than others.
