I am an Dalish Elf fanatic and just wanted to say that the vallaslin is hugely, culturally significant to the Dalish. They are like a rite of passage. Not having them would be like an insult to their culture and beliefs. They are a "tribe" society where these things are very important. I would think if you are playing a Dalish Elf you would want to show the world that you are indeed Dalish and proud. Wear those tattoos with pride! Hold your heads up high and say, "I am Dalsih and proud of it. DEAL WITH IT!!!!!"

Okay as I said before it seems to be renditions of the same tattoos from Origins in Inquisition. I gathered up screens for the ones that have already been shown. I want to see what you guys think.

Spoiler

This one reminds me of that tattoo representing Andruil. Because the part on the forehead and chin, it looks a bit similar

I agree, I think this represents Andruil.

Spoiler

This one reminds me of the basic tattoo representing Falon'din. Mostly because of the chin.

I think I'd go with Ghilain'nain, it reminds me of a Halla's head.

Spoiler

This one was a big tricky, it reminds me of the tattoos representing both June and Mythal. But because of the part on the mouth I have to go with Mythal.

I'd say June, it looks very similar to the original June from Origins, but now has those roots extending from the chin.

Spoiler

For this one your guess is as good as mine. But I'll go with June.

It's a tree, so Mythal :P.

Spoiler

This one is one we've seen alot. As the last one your guess is as good as mine. I'll say Dirthamen, just because the design reminds me of a key hole and Dirthamen is the keeper of secrets.

I'd say Sylaise. The total lack of symmetricality reminds me of her tattoo in Origins, and Sylaise is also represented with vines, as she was the first to make them into rope.

So any way tell me what you guys think. This isn't all of the Vallaslin from the look of the vids, I think there's more. ;)
Oh there definitely is, that slider was no where near its end.

Felt like trying my hand at guessing, my comments are the italics. I'm glad we'll get these confirmed after Thanksgiving. Mmm... turkey.

Worthwhile to note that there is no 'intensity slider', each tattoo comes in a set of three instead, one bold, one faint, one in-between.

*snip*

I would prefer there to be more than one way to play one of the races. Having "Dalish and proud" like you suggest is not appealing to me for more than maybe one playthrough, and even that one will only be to see the differences rather than having fun. I want to be a City Elf, but if we have to be a Dalish Elf, let us at least have complete control over them. That includes appearance and whether we have the Vallaslin or not.

Heck not having the tats could represent a recent convert from the city, who has earned the trust of her brethren, and due to her experience with the cities has chosen/been asked to act as a spy rather than get the tattoos.

Wtf?  I mean, that's cool and all, but we've been wondering about this for weeks and all we had to do was just ask this guy?    Well, at least I can stop straining my brain trying to figure this out...

That's the power of please, kids. ^_^

Well, the fact our surname matches the clan name I think we are descended from the original Dales Elves who founded the clan.

But yeah, Pol was a convert and was a hunter despite not having Vallaslin.

What?  *facepalm*  Was shading too complicated for players to understand?  Why would they remove this?

I am fine with valaslin being mandatory, but not everyone here is a Dalish elitist.

Maybe somebody could find a way to mod the tattoos out. The unfortunate thing about mods like that, though, is that it's not canon, so you might still get dialog referencing it. Ugh.

Add to that Frostbite being infamously difficult to mod, and I don't see mods as an option. Not to mention that even if they did, it only works for PC players. Players on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and/or Xbox One have no such option.

Well with the very faint tattoo+ the color wheel , I'm pretty sure you can make an invisible tatoo.

Just pick a color close to the skintone .

Trainee hunter. Cammen was the same way.

Also, no one without vallaslin would be entrusted by the Dalish to do anything of importance.

Truth. Vallaslin is acknowledgement of an elf coming of age within the clan. I doubt the keeper would send a child as a spy.

See, this is what has made me rethink being an elf for my first playthrough.  I don't want to be a loyalist to one group over the other because that's not how I play on a first run.  And I want to respond and make decisions that would be consistent with my character's background.  I'll eventually play Dalish but not right away, which is no biggie for me really.

Yeah, this is why I'm okay with them making Vallaslin required for Dalish origin.  It wouldn't make much sense to send a rookie (a child) to spy on a summit revolving around the disputes of Thedas.  The one thing I'm sad about is that there's no city elf origin; it was one of my favorites in DA:O.  And I see a lot of potential with one, especially with the elves rebelling and the like.  But ah well...I can deal with it.  I think being Dalish will still be interesting enough in a playthrough.

Close to skintone =/= invisible.

I've seen an example of their 'invisible' tattoos and was able to spot it immediately.

They wouldn't send their First to a place filled with Templars either, and yet they go.

You keep making that complaint despite the fact that you were the only person to see it straight away, everyone else had to get specifically told by dev's where the tattoo was before they noticed, that doesn't make the "faint option" bad & obvious IMO

I personally don't mind.

Sure it would be cool to know if a tattoo my Dalish Elf has represents the vengeance seeking Elgar'nan or the Dread Wolf Fen'Harel, but when I originally picked the tattoo for my Dalish Elf Warden I picked what I thought looked cool. So what if it represents Sylaise or June? Unless I run into another Dalish, I doubt any human, dwarf, or qunari will know what it means.

Even then, I don't think a Dalish will go bullying my Inquisitor because he has Andruil's pattern plastered on his mug; not unless he wants to be a pin cushion for my arrows.

Why not? The Circles are no more. The Order, for all intents and purposes, is disbanded. The summit is going to be crawling with mages-- who are all technically apostates now.

It's a sort of peace summit, in which case there is more likely a treaty in place, a cease fire, if you will.

Joking aside, more origin stories would have been better. I just have this sneaking suspicion that we will be getting origin dlc's for the low, low price of 29,95€ or something like that. Because EA.

You mean why not risk the future of their clan by sending them to a place they know nothing about, hence the spying to see what the meeting is about, except that the Chantry, Templars, and Mages, three groups who are currently at each other's throats and could reignite the war at any moment, will be there in force? Yeah, I can't see any problems arising from that situation.

I am certain the Keeper knows exactly what the meeting is about. She is most likely sending her First there to find out which way the tide will sway.

I am sure if a war breaks out, the First has a plan to slip away among the chaos and retreat back to her clan. Dalish are nomads, they know how to get the hell out of dodge.

The mage/templar war could be a great danger to the clan and not having eyes there could lead to even a bigger disaster. It's the less of two evil and an ounce of prevention and all that.
