That implies that some of the options have no meaning, and thus them being mandatory is pointless.

I thought we were talking about hypothetical vassalin.

But if non Creator choices exist in DAI then they can be handwaved as having meaning to the elf and are accepted by the clan. A bit rebellious as it's not the norm but something which is allowed by the Keeper, who after all is the one who does the tattoo.

I'd suggest don't play a Dalish, if you don't actually want to be Dalish. It's pretty simple.

Not really rebellious if the leader of the group you are rebelling against approves of it. :P

However I want to be an Elf. Or even a Dalish who is against what the Dalish do. But I'm stuck being a Pro-Dalish Dalish. No matter how much you can say you disagree with something about them(which I doubt we can anyay), it is overshadowed by the fact you willingly got a "I support the Dalish lifestyle" branded on your face for all to see for the rest of your life.

Yes, because it's most likely plot driven. An elf who fails to embrace dalish culture is a city elf, or at least that's how they are viewed. If you were rebellious and against your heritage, you wouldn't have been chosen at a First and certainly wouldn't have been seen as trustworthy enough to be sent on a mission that will have consequences for the very ideals you are against.

It's the story Bioware wants to tell and the story they've created and making a rebellious dalish wouldn't have been very cohesive. I would love to play a commoner human, but it is what it is.

Well, Mages born in noble or royal houses lose all claims to their birthrights, so you can play a human commoner if you play as a human mage.

You'll get your chance to play a City Elf again. Count on that. They plan on more games, but this is what they wanted in this one.

Think of it like any other family origin. Cousland, Aeducan, etc.. You could eventually evolve as you play and expand your viewpoint, but you're not going to start off a different way.

Yes, but I would be restricted to being a mage and it still isn't the same. I am sure there would still be referenced to your noble house.

I'm okay with it. I was disappointed at first, but I understand it may be central to the plot or whatever. Even if it isn't, it's the story they've provided. It won't ruin my experience and I hope it won't ruin yours! Who knows, maybe there will be circumstances where you can question certain ideologies and practices. If so, you can always roleplay that you were steadfast in your belief, but over time became agnostic to them, or even reject them all together.

The game will be released in a little under a month.  It's probably time to get over it.

What about a Dalish who becomes disillusioned with Dalish culture/practices later in life?

Perhaps. I have doubts though.

I have accepted what the situation is. Doesn't mean I shouldn't show my disagreement with the decision. Especially in the Feedback & Suggestions subforum.

Considering how often you complain about this and the fact that you argue against even the most obvious explanations for why the tattoos are mandatory, you don't seem to have accepted anything.  If you had a decent argument, that would be one thing, but all you are doing is repeating the same thing every few days or so...  it just doesn't make any sense to me.  The story was finalized long ago and the elven Inquisitor is Dalish.  Providing "feedback" isn't going to have any effect on this game or DA4.  I assume you realize this, so what are you actually trying to accomplish?

You just wait if DA4 is in Tevinter then Kallen can have her dream of playing a city elf!

I agree, but Kallen doesn't seem willing to wait that long apparently... they want to be a city elf right now<_<

You know, you're right.  DA4 should be set in Tevinter so that everyone can be happy... or at least, so that the two of us can be happy.  Forget the city elves... let's just make it a human protagonist so we can be proper Magister Lords without all the baggage.  :D

That's what I'm trying to work on right now as a character. That and trying to figure out some backstory to explain why my character would be a Pro-Dalish Dalish.

I haven't brought this up for a while, actually. Not until after I asked Bioware to provide the meanings for those here, which they are working on.

Then you are misunderstanding. I am still doing this because I want the next game to be different, not this game.

Heck no, I want to play a pro-tevinter elf mage in Tevinter. Should be funny/awesome. Any ways, at best I bet you becoming a Magister Lord would only be an end of game thing like King/Queen of Ferelden or Viscount restricted to mages, since Bioware would still have to accommodate heretical Warrior/Rogue players.

Yes, I must be misunderstanding then, because some of these arguments have been coming across as a bit petulant.  Perhaps the fact that it's the same argument and that people have been responding with the same rock solid justifications is what's making this seem to be occurring more frequently than it actually is.  Perhaps that is why it seems like you have been refusing to let it go.  I still think that you would have a better shot at being heard if you at least waited until after the game was launched to make suggestions for DA4.  They seem out of place in a thread that was originally created simply to shed light on the question of what the vallaslin designs mean and why the developers haven't given us an official guide thus far.

Andraste and her armies couldn't, multiple Archdemons and thousands of Darkspawn couldn't, the Qunari couldn't, and the Exalted Marches couldn't, so I'm guessing the answer is "no."

Maybe they can pacify the mundane players with the option to have lyrium markings like to the ones Fenris had?  Those are kind of like blood writing, so it's pretty close to being a Dalish elf... sort of.

But none of them were special snowflakes like protagonists by definition are.

Meh, Tevinter commited heresy first. I'm being a heretic to heretics. What's wrong with that?

Meh, Tevinter commited heresy first. You can't be a heretic to heretics.

I'll be honest with you, I came very close to adding a line about that, but I figured it would ruin the drama of that post... xD
