i just summoned deadra and said screw this *shudders* hate spidersWon't lie i absolutely HATE spiders , they creep me out. Skyrim was the worst for some reason thank god for the Arachnophobia mod ,replaces all spiders with random creatures otherwise.. pull out a fire spell hold the attack button and run in screaming lol. Dragon age they didn't bother me at all , could be the graphics compared to skyrim i dont know. Dark Messiah is another , those were creepy as hell too , so.. just spam fire balls and blast the little buggers into oblivion! As for the giant monster , didn't freak me out or anything , looks like a good fight! <insert ork voice from warhammer 40k here>

There's nothing BioWare can do, just suck it up and face your fears.

Hmm, interesting. Not that I don't sympathize with phobias (I have a weird one myself) but... this thread almost seems sarcastic.

What Hawke and Not Warden are looking at in Enemy of Thedas.
Oh yeah, I guess I didn't pay much attention to it because I was too busy being all "wtf Hawke?!" lol that thing had holes in it or something though?

I had to read about what trypophobia was to understand. I'm sorry if I said something to upset you. That was not my intention.

By the way, your phobia is simply a false belief that you have created through continual thought about the thing.
You have control over your own mind and the power to overcome it.
I'm not advocating asking the devs to remove stuff from their games because they could be triggering for some people, as I would never expect them to cater to my specific phobias. But this is a bit of a douchey thing to say to someone who suffers from a phobia. I've been in therapy for years for my phobias and while technically, you are correct in that some people can overcome their fears, not everyone has such an easy time of that.
Telling someone to "get over it" is never going to be effective. That's why behavioral therapy to help people with phobias can take so long to be effective. It's not as easy as going, "I'm just not going to be afraid anymore!"
Sorry, but this just really struck a nerve for me, as I am someone whose whole life has been adversely affected by irrational phobias.

To OP:
I suffer from very mild trypophobia, in that I can feel physically ill when seeing triggering images. I agree that this monster is very triggering. What I've been doing is doing gradual exposure therapy to it, to desensitize myself to it, so that when I come across it in game, at the very least, I'll be able to complete the quest without being ill. I'll look at the photo for a second, then look away. Then later, look for a little longer, and then a little longer. I'm now at the point where I can look at it for a sufficient amount of time, and I'm also hoping that when I'm fighting it in game, I'll be so preoccupied with everything else going on that I won't be too affected by it.
If you feel that you can handle it, then try doing what I did. If not, then maybe you may need to come to terms with the fact that you may not be able to play this game, or at least this section. If you have someone who can, ask them to help you get through this part and anything else that may be hard for you to deal with. I know there are some games out there and a lot of movies that I've had to avoid because they contained material that I personally find triggering. The fact of the matter is, there's no way they'll be able to avoid all material that someone may potentially find triggering. Some people have phobias of horses, doesn't mean they're going to take mounts out of the game. It's just something you have to learn to cope with.

It won't make you feel any better, OP, but at least they're spreading the heebiejeebies around more. Players who fear spiders are probably still going to be biting their nails every time the screechy music plays, but it does come as a bit of a relief to arachnophobes that not all of the horribly monstrous creatures they encounter will be spiders.
it's not that i'm afraid of the holes in it's body, the problem is that i imediatly want to trow up

Im failing to see why some players feel as if personal phobia somehow should be tailored to in the this game, as if their personal preference should overpower a game being directed to millions. Not trying to be offensive but if i said, "Why havent the devs considered that some people have a fear of lizards? Im terribly afraid of them therefore they shouldnt be in the game"

i don't have a problem with giant ugly monsters...my problem is with the holes all over it's body

Telling someone to "get over it" is never going to be effective.
I don't think he (she?) said to get over it - poster was just putting forth an optimistic (and possibly simplistic) view. ![]()
Someone made a thread not too long ago about arachnophobia, and someone mentioned that eventually they'll be able to avoid spiders in the game when someone comes up with a mod turning them all into, oh I don't know, marshmallows.
So no devs won't remove something that's meant to be scary from the game because someone happens to have a phobia attached to it, but there will likely be options for the player to circumvent the situation.
I particularly like your idea of asking a friend to play through any parts the OP can't handle.

I may have overreacted a bit, but what they said was very similar to stuff I've heard people tell me in real life, and in essence, they're saying, "It's not real, so don't be afraid of it," which is incredibly ineffective at getting people to stop being afraid of something. This poster may not have intended to come off that way, but it just hit in a sensitive spot for me. I apologize, Dubya75, if I was too harsh!

Coming from my own logical mind. I cant understand trypophobia, but I won't make fun of someone that has that particular fear.
Usually a fear is cultivated by something
Clowns: watched a scary movie or were scared as a child
Spiders/Mice: Scared as a child or (most likely) a parent was afraid when you were younger and instilled said fear in you.
Now these are what I've come across and in no way will hold true for everyone. I understand that there are some fears that do not make sense and these do affect ppl on a day to day basis. There is no rhyme or reason for these fears. they just are.
My mom is arachniphobic, but is also highly allergic to spider bites.i am Cnidophobic (afraid of stings) but am allergic to most insect stings.... This however does not go into ineedles as getting my blood drawn or shot given, I'm fine....
Not trying to come across as douchey or unpleasant, just making my statements from my observations
you are not douchey, every phobia has a triger,i mean you are not born with it,for me it's no diferent, when i was little i had a accident involving hot coking oil,the skin does not react well to that (still have the scars)

Hm. That's not very fair, OP. I'm tokophobic, but I wouldn't expect videogames, or other media, to not incorporate pregnancy into games. (The broodmother being one of the few bosses in a video game that is likely pregnant. lol)
We can't expect video games to bend to our every whims unfortunately. If they tried to please everyone, then we wouldn't have anymore video games. We'd be reduced to sitting in a circle and holding hands for entertainment. But then the wind might pick up and blow dust in someone's eye and even then there will be exception - or offense - taken.
i dont want them to take it out,i mean i would be happy er if it would not be there, but i am still going to buy the game and play it ,but they could have left some part of it with no holes so that i can concentrate on that ,i mean even the legs are coverd in holes i'm going to have to fight it whitout looking at it

somebody already said this but i'm going to say it as well,it's not fear,i am not afraid of the holes, the problem is if i look at them i instantly get sick and feel like vomiting,
i have a fear of spiders and rats and it's not the same thing, i played skyrim and if you played it you know it's filed with both of them, some i killed some i ran away from but i was able to play it.

You don't have to approve of the holes. you can get over your phobia by thinking about it differently.
Was it me, or did anyone else loose their train of thought here.

I should been afraid of needles, as a kid had an accident with one, but ended up going away from it, I have to watch nurses/doctors put needles in me.
I am afraid of falling however, Its not the same as afraid of holes, but it does cause issues when I start getting dizzy on heights. It isn't the height but the fall I fear. I can look over edges and such as long as I feel safe, jumping out of an airplane in a game was interesting. I didn't get bothered by it, hard to say how others react as people react to phobias differently.
All I can say is, hope you try to manage that scene.

I'm pretty sure 99% of the images I found about typophobia were photoshopped just to scare people with trypophobia.
edit: I think I just triggered someone with "typophobia," sorry. ![]()
