I mean sure its not out yet BUT from everything we have seen so far it looks like a step up in every area from the previous games

The Open world aspect seems awesome with huge areas to explore (what DA2 was lacking but also DA:O wasn't really big)

The Story seems to the biggest yet (scale wise) the threat is encompassing all of thedas not only Ferelden or Kirkwall

We have this huge castle and even armies at our disposal

The Inquisitor has more influence than any of the previous protagonists

I don't know how they could surpass this (from everything we know about the world, sure they could come up with new stuff maybe places beyond thedas?)

It also seems like a game that will provide closure on many levels we have many characters returning from previous games who will play a huge role (Leliana, Morrigan and Varric), old conflicts will be solved( Mage-Templar)

I'm hoping for many more DA games to come but they seem to have set the bar very high

Anyone agree? it really is the DA game they wanted to make from the beginning

Years from now this will be clear. I remember when I was young playing games on the SNES and thinking it would be so cool if the characters could talk or if we could just kill some annoying NPC for no reason or touch and interact with everything, etc...I never dreamed the kinds of games we have now would ever be possible.

Won't know until after its played.   There are several design decisions that, at least for me, seem to be a step backward (or is it sideway?) toward putting the game into another genre altogether.

It that turns out to be the case then improving the game in the future can simply take more measure to ensure that Dragon Age remains an actual RPG rather than the next Diablo clone.

Let's  see where DAI actually goes before wondering if it can possibly be surpassed.

Bioware is welcome to ship me an early copy of DAI just so I can come up with ideas of how they can do better.

They could do a game that is set at the end of the Dragon Age.... Varric could start the story out.

It could be a story about the changing of the Ages and why the next Age is named what it is.

I'm not in favor of many of the changes they've made to the game mechanics and I have no idea where this plot is headed, so I'm not placing this game above DA:O just yet.  I'm expecting an improvement from DA2 but that's about as high as I'm willing to get my hopes.  Time has taught me to take pre-release information and marketing with a grain of salt, regardless of what company is behind it.

surpass it? that's easy:

  • return of dual welding anything but daggers
  • PVP mode plus the actual CO-OP Multiplayer
  • dwarven romantic interests (please)
  • Straight not race gated qunari girl companions
  • return of arcane warrior
  • Gollem origin
  • return of killblows and decapitations
  • anything plus shield instead of sword and shield style
  • "Avatar of pain" featuring DA2 lead writter, gameplay, interface, and SPECIALLY MARKET RESEARCHING roles

and voila, best dragon age ever.

Open world was what was missing in previous DA games. And allowing them to stay open after main quest is finished is also a new addition.

Bioware knew they have had to get this game right or risk a meltdown.

From what we have seen I think they have succeeded. ;)

Don't you think it's a little premature to start treating this game like it's the best thing since sliced nug? No one has even played it yet. For all we know, it might turn out to be the buggiest, most unplayable mess ever foisted off on gamers since E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Now, do I think it will be like that? Not really, but I'm not going to start celebrating it's success either until I've actually had a chance to play it. :P

oh come on it can't be THAT bad in gameplay terms, the worst it can become is a mix between DA2 and JA:BiA with DA2 stupid animations and BiA punishing difficult

That phrase reminds me of some of my more insane acts of DIY. I must remember it for next time I'm about to do something really stupid. I might replace tool with fool though.

None of this stuff will matter if the story sucks.

Mass Effect 3 was the big one, with the Reaper invasion, and yet Bioware is surpassing it with the next Mass Effect game. Have faith I'm sure they can come up with something.

Like going to Tevinter.
