Hum so you can roleplay other types of personalities but not genders? you are limiting yourself if you ask me. I just found really sad that games like Tomb Raider like someone said never can be enjoyed because of that.

This is something I cannot get maybe that is because I never got the change to play female characters in my young days. I think you guys are just not use to it. People should try to get out of their comfort zone, I for example gonna to do the Blackwall romance on one of my PTs and maybe even Solas.

Well see, If the main character is strictly girl only, then of course I won't mind playing the game. I played Final Fantasy 10-2 with no problem, and the old school Tomb Raider. But in games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Skyrim, Fallout, and Dragon Dogma, I enjoy playing mostly as a male  :) . Playing a female character doesn't get me out of my comfort zone, but I just enjoy playing what I can relate to.

I'm struggling to get that out of my head now...  :D

Spoiler

Yes, yes; excellent point. Solas is clearly a terrible idea for a romance interest because of being bald. This is proof that straight female elves are being discriminated against and we are being punished by being given the, uh, ugly bald dude. It was a terrible blow to all of us, but now the rest of you can breathe a collective sigh of relief that we took one for the team. This should hopefully get people to stop grousing about not winning the "extra" romance lottery, because who wanted the bald elf anyway.

:P

Solas, buddy, the Shartan look is really working against you. So sorry about that.

Oh ok, I feel the same. I play more female characters if I can but do not mind doing male character at all, or any romance. I just view RP sometimes as a change to do something that is completely different than me.

Maybe this will be the game that I will actually be able to run a female dwarf play through. I told my brother that I wanted to ride the bull!

People like to play differently though. I know many women who only play women. Some like to play more as self-insert characters than doing character which isn't them. I think different playstyles are all okay :)

Personally I like to play all kind of characters. I played every origin in Origins, most twice or even more. I beat the game with two male Wardens, one straight and one gay and then one nomance playthrough with female Warden. I'm straight female myself ^^ DA2 I beat with straight woman, bi woman and bi man. So personally I love different options and will try to make many different characters. But not everyone likes to do that.

Its the same with me if there really is an option to play as a male I pick it instantly

because its a bit difficult for me to play from a woman's mindset

Its not something that is game breaking (I still play games with female protagonists and enjoy them) but I prefer male protagonists

Thank you!

Looking at the picture diagram of who is open to romance with which gender/race, I can't say I'm excited about any of them, but that is NOT a criticism, as I'm not generally excited by 'looks' anyway. I AM terribly excited to get to know each of these characters, and see which direction my interest takes me. I'm very grateful for the rundown, so that once I'm playing I won't have questions (e.g., 'Is this going anywhere?') that would likely lead me to horrible spoilers if I were to google them.

I love the romances your team works so hard on, but not specifically for the actual romance - I love them because they open up an aspect of a particular character I've come to be 'close to' in the game, and let me explore a further depth of their personality. That's what I love! I really have no preference as to whether or not my character is bumping pixels with another character. I DO care that I've been given a look at another facet of that character's personality, since character interactions with romances tend to be a bit 'deeper' (absolutely NO pun intended). Getting to know these wonderful characters better - that's what I love! Regardless if that character is my romance or my best friend, I'm immensely happy. (My female protagonist becoming Morrigan's friend in DA:O? That was one of my happiest gaming 'relationship' moments.)

If I can get to know ALL of these characters in a 'deep' fashion, regardless of whether or not I'm romancing them? I WILL BE IN LOVE SO VERY VERY MUCH.

Thank you! I can't wait to meet the wonderful personalities you've created, and find out their stories!

Solas doesn't seem like he'll be a bad romance choice - he's clearly intelligent and has decent awareness if his Fade journeying is any indication. The look at his character implies that he has a much different worldview than many of the people we've seen - even the other Elven mages we've seen so far.

I just really wish that Vivienne had been romanceable. It's like every lady I've ever wanted to romance I've not been able to, though admittedly this is the first time that it's just flat out not possible. -Sigh-.

If you're disappointed in the number, I can assure you the number is the same number of options you've had in the last two games.

If you're disappointed in the selection, then so be it. You're not alone, if commentary on the forum is anything to go by. Personal preference is what it is, and like I've said previously, there's hardly a guarantee that a person will find anything they personally find attractive no matter the number of options. If the idea is that "straight males" in general won't find either of those options attractive... well, we have a large number of straight men who work here in the office who would vigorously object to that assertion, I assure you. Might not want to speak on their behalf.

Doesn't really matter since quite a few people don't get it, but my husband and I agree with you.  He finds Cassandra intriguing.

btw. Saying "it didn' work so I start bringing up some other stuff" is really childish. I even agreed with you that there are more homosexual women shown as if they're actually bisexual (but with the argument that there are more gay man shown as overly stereotypically gay which is true)...but even that wasn't enough for you.

You initially tried to argue that gay men even in this aspect have it as bad, because most books you read place them with women. Only after my further questions you admitted that it wasn't actually about gay men, but popular in Yaoi motive of basically straight guy who makes an exception for one guy, which is something completely different.

you're the one, who always mentiones gays are represented in more movies and then, you say how badly represented lesbians are.

Each time in response to someone saying that lesbians are more accepted in the media than gay men.

But if you tell us that gays are more represented than lesbians you should also consider that there are more movies where they are badly represented (simply to the fact that there are more movies where they are shown).

I don't know, I didn't see those movies, and as you said, neither did you. But I believe that could be the case (but also the majority of lesbian character fall under damaging lesbian sleeping with a man trope and with more lesbian characters in TV - who still make  smaller portion of the cake compared with gay men - it happens more often lately; not to mention that there are also other tropes). What angers me is dismissal of the situation of gay women, as automatically being worth less attention than "the real deal", gay men. This opinion was repeated many times on this board, that obviously lesbians have it better. Which is BS.

And of course you have to make a point: "On the contrary, it makes their (gay men's) situation even worse.". Without providing any concrete examples.

You know, I know hardships of life as gay woman in homophobic country firsthand, not from some yuri books and novels so I would appreciate if you didn't try to lecture me on such matters, especially by using anecdotal evidences and unverifiable sources as your whole argument.

The person who said lesbians are more accepted than gays was another one, not me o.O I said, bot of them are equally bad represented in media. Both groups in their own bad way... I could tell you some books I've read, but I doubt you'll know them. Most of the time I read german books because I'm german. And if you want some film examples: As I said I don't know their names anymore. I don't make notes after watching a film where a stereotypically gay person was represented. However, there are some soap operas I remember that had really bad representation of gay guys in previous times, for example the series Unter Uns. They showed a gay person, overly feminine and ******-like who tried to kiss a straight person. the straight person was, of course, totally normal and attractive and he hasn't said anything against the bad gay person, who pressed him...It became better in Unter Uns since there's a bisexual guy in the maincast now, but it's still a big problem in media. Or "Bauer sucht Frau", there was a lesbian couple represented as normal as if they're not different from heterosexual couples, and a gay couple represented as overly girly with a preference for cosmetics. Or the series AWZ, there was a guy, who first thought he was hetero, then he thought, he was gay, then he cheated on his boyfriend with a girl, then he went back to his boyfriend...and now, he seems to be more heterosexual again. I also found other films and series with homosexuals who fall in love with a female: coming in, verrückt nach Clara, der Ausreißer (Le roi de l'evasion), and I remember a film with a female (vampire?) who's loved by gay people, but I forgot the name. So, you wanted some examples. Here they are.... . and I see gay guys in movies who act overly feminine and campy very often, even if I just switch on TV without knowing what movie or series is shown. Then, I just change the programm and get annoyed.

and believe me, it's not better to read gay books written for gay people with straight sex scenes. If I read a gay book I want gay people or bisexual people whose bisexuality doesn't lead to straight sex scenes, but unfortunately, that's not natural. There are straight sex scenes for example in Der Hohepriester, Die Verschwörung der Templer, Captive Prince (still a great book though), Staub und Stolz, Immortale or Affairs gefährliche Liebe (stupid book which described the passon of straigth sex, but shows very boring gay scenes with interruptions and no romantic.)

and why shouldn't I bring up books and yaoi mangas as an example of bad gay representation when you do the same with movies and their lesbian people in it? Sorry, but that's just unfair. If you bring up examples  I shouldn't be forbidden to do the same. And you don't know my situation. You don't know if I'm harassed or suppressed as well... Beside that, tell me a reliable source where's written that lesbian are worse represented than gay guys. You always try to tell that they have it so much worse. But that's just subjective. Yes, lesbians get less attention in movies than gay men, BUT it's also a fact that the more representation isn't always good representation. on the contrary...gay men are often described as very unlikeable people who need to be killed. So the comparison to the cake isn't really a good one since gay people often get sour milk instead.

my whole point is: more representation doesn't mean to be better representation. If there are more gay movies than lesbian movies there's a higher chance that they'll have more good movies, but also a higher chance that they'll have more bad movies. And since our society is really stereotypical, it's often the second case, unfortunately... That's why gay people don't always win if they get more attention in media. Somestimes it's better to have less attention.

don't know if you speak german but it says what I mean. http://www.paradisi....tikel/14988.php

Also, I'd hate to interject, but women who are not straight are more fetishized, not more respected than not straight men. In media as a whole, gay women are likely to be treated as a punchline or some weird male gaze sort of fantasy and bisexual women are usually treated as relationship/marital aids. Pansexual and asexual women exist as punchlines or not at all.

Right, and I never said anything against it. But gay guys however are also represented badly. They're shown as if they're nothing but gay. They look gay, they act gay, they behave gay. They press straight people against their will, they're pushy and annoying...or the other side: they're depressed, they get killed or they commit suicide. Both sides are represented badly but each side in a different way. Gay people haven't it neither worse nor better than lesbians in media.

I agree there is one games that shows this pretty well, where lesbian women are torture and seen as sexual objects for the the male gaze and male gay as evil people that should be castrated and killed cofthewitcher2cof, so yes different types of shitty representation but overall equally bad.

@Misoretu9, sorry to hear about that, also, that listings is making me disgusted at several men.

I wont support those movies/shows that allow "turning" lesbians to be shown, even if they have good plots, it was ruined hearing about that for me.

I can never get into a game where the main character is a woman. Too much of a disconnect for me. Sera seems just fine if she wasn't exclusively lesbian.

I used to be the same way.  It's less of an issue now.  Go into it and go into with the mindset of "I'm going to have fun" and it can help.  It might take a few false starts, but it's much less of a big deal now than I felt it was when I was younger.

@Princess Threat, I wish I could like your post #2537, it would be nice to see love develop between companions as well. :)

EDIT:  Josephine!!  I would choose her over everyone we had so far as options, Leliana as second.  :)   Less my hopes for her are misjudged and she isn't who I think she is. But her characteristics that was shared has her as my first over everyone.
