If they were to deliberately make Vivienne a romance when it doesn't make sense for the character, your romance option would no longer be Vivienne. It'd be a different character.

Why wouldn't it make sense? I've got this fine, statuesque woman with full lips, a banging body, and nice threads in my party. I'm gonna try to flirt with her. How will she respond? It's very natural.

That you responded with her physical appearance is the issue. She may very well have had something happen to her in the past that makes her emotionally unresponsive to romance.

It's also possible her character is too preoccupied with trying to reinstate the Circles and just can't deal with relationships right now, or simply doesn't want to.

Yeah, it's pretty weak tbh. Only one actual party member for the straight males.

Hey, at least it is not in over a billion games.

I wouldn't say that.

Men just like to pretend they don't like the romance genre.  :P

I don't know if I'm representative for men, but I do tend to dislike the romance genre while I like romance as an added element in other genres. I think romance can enrich most kinds of stories but if the story is mainly about romance I usually find it boring.

Agreed, a game with romance as added flavor is great for me. However a game that's centered around romance, isn't something I'd get into.

I finally checked out the romanceable characters, and while I have nothing against any of them (they all seem well done, so far), I do feel the need to bring up that only one gender getting to romance elves is actually a sexist thing to do. Not having an opportunity because you do or do not have some dangle bits between your legs or some lumpy bits on your chest is the very definition of sexism.

Now, it doesn't really matter to me because I will be playing a femquisitor anyway, I just felt I should pointed that out.

It's sexist that Solas and Sera aren't into guys? Really? Or is it sexist that BioWare didn't include an additional elf who is? That's also kinda funny.

Yeah, you can't take "sexism" that far, as it demands that everybody be bisexual, which just isn't how people work.

No, it's really not... I'm glad you're able to play the other gender though.  I don't usually do it, but this time I will for Dorian.

Yes. Solas, Sera, Dorian, Blackwall, Cassandra and Cullen are all sexist bastards.

Surprised that Cullen is race gated while Cassandra isn't.

My best guess there is that since he's a bonus they didn't have enough zots to make the cutscenes for Cullen and a dwarf work. Elves and humans are close enough in size that you could keep the same camera angles and probably a lot of the animations. (I once dated a woman about 15" shorter than me, and things could occasionally get a bit awkward.)

I'm going to play a ruthless character. So who will fit my PC ? Cassandra or more Josephine ? Both of them seem to like noble knight or sweet characters !

Look, stop being idiots, individual characters don't matter. Female inquisitors have different opportunities than male ones. Understandable? Yes. Nevertheless it's sexist.

And yes, you can take it that far. Equality doesn't choose sides or scope. It is neutral, it wants equal opportunities for evenyone.

Cassandra. According to her character profile she plans to drag the world back to order whenever it wants it or not. Make of that what you want though.

AlanC9, Its not cinematics for Cullen not wanting dwarves, it is his character dated back into Origins.  I cant say why Solas is the way he is till we talk to him.

This. I strongly dislike romance genre, I 'm never going to go to cinema to see a boring romance movie, not going to bother watching a romance serie tv. But if romances are implemented for example in an epic story, an epic serie tv, yes I'm going to enjoy them. To sum up, when it's not really about romances, more as an added element like you said.

So there should always be an equal number of female to male characters? They should go through Inquisition and count up the NPCs and make sure they are exactly equal?

Gender equality means that both men and women can become the CEO of a major corporation if they both have the skillset and determination. It means that you won't be judged for being a certain gender in a certain social situation. It does not mean that men and women must be numerically equal in all scenarios. That's just unnecessary political correctness.

What do you want people to say then?  If any of that was relevant to her plot, she would have been race gated.  Since she isn't the writers must not consider her family's reaction to be something that would prevent her from following her heart.

I'm sure it'll be relevant in some way and Cassandra will choose love over her family name, after angsting over it, unless you break it off.

So lesbian players are sexist because they get to romance an elf, despite the fact they get 2 choices if they roll as a fem inquisitor and their irl sexuality (the equivalent for those rolling male inquisitors as straight or gay)

Thankyou BSN for teaching me that 'elven' is apparently on the gender spectrum.

Considering almost every game developer tends to ignore that female gamers even exist and the overwhelming preferable treatment straight males get by the industry I'm perfectly okay with DAI's "sexism"

I don't agree with Aulis, but I don't think he/she's referring to Sera only, but to Solas as well, since he/she didn't say (as far as I know) that male characters don't have the option to romance a female elf specifically, but elves in general.

OK dudes, here's the deal. Nobody ever said that male-romancing female PC's didn't get extra, they did. But they didn't get this at the expense of straight or gay men or lesbians. The core romances are still balanced. YOU DID NOT LOSE ANYTHING BY CULLEN AND SOLAS BEING RACEGATED STRAIGHT ROMANCES.

Straight and pan or bi women who want to  romance men GAINED an extra two limited options. BUT THE REST LOST NOTHING.

Is it "unfair"?

Well, it's uneven, in a limited sense, but you were not the victims of some grand scheme to make straight women top dog.

And calling Sera and Dorian "sexist" for.............. ??????????

What is wrong with you?

How can you say that.

Do you realize the irony of it, I wonder? That YOU are the ones who are homophobic?

Because male inquisitors don't get to bang an elf doesn't mean it's 'sexist'. I'm sorry, but their definition of sexist in this scenario is wrong. Is it unfair? Yes. In the same way it's unfair that no one can romance a dwarf.
