No, it was probably never taken seriously, because the developers don't live on the internet and they have to actually run a business that will make money.

I'm sorry if you're disappointed and/or outraged that they aren't giving more options to gay and lesbian players. But people who advocate for same-sex content have to be realistic otherwise we're going to be perpetually disappointed.

Like David said earlier in this thread, surely you understand that people who use and want lesbian and gay content are going to be a minority of their audience? I'm a gay player and I understand that.

I'm overjoyed that Bioware are providing options at all, because they absolutely didn't have to.

My brother and his boyfriend feel the same way. They're looking forward to Dorian, IB....but they plan to try the other ones.

My brother and his boyfriend appreciate the representation.

They have more issues with the straight female fandom who fetishize M/M relationships but thats another post altogether.

It's super rude to talk about your own oppression when you're actually the privileged one, okay? Keep that in mind. Be emotional, be sad, but don't go to the "straight males are discriminated" route. The route doesn't even exist.,. geez...

Tell that to any man with kids that has seen the inside of a divorce court.... this nonsense that straight white males can't be discriminated against is just that... nonsense.

Edit: OK I'm talking about UK here.

I was disappointed I couldn't romance Dorian as a female, but I'm glad there are gay companions. The only time I'm rolling a male is for Dorian. I never play a male if I have the choice to play female, but I will play a male for Dorian. I do some of the female S/S also. I plan on doing most of the romance arcs in DAI. So for me, it has tons of replay value.

This. Dorian seems like an awesome character and as a straight male, for the first time ever I'm considering rolling with a gay character. Not on my first playthrough but maybe eventually.

Personally I still am hoping for the ability to constantly flirt with Harding/Dagna   and have a brothel with female dwarf options at said brothel because my Male Dwarf Inquisitor loves the Dwarven Ladies. ;)

You'll laugh at me, but it's one reason I'm nervous about romancing Dorian: a major reason is that I find him attractive. There's a bit of fetishizing going on there despite my best efforts.

Dagna would surely be an awesome character to romance. And since Iron Bull the dwarves are the only playable race that didn't make it as a LI... fingers crossed for the next DA game :).

I think it's one thing if you want to play a male character to romance an attractive gay character.  I think it's a totally different thing if you go on and on about how "cute" gay male couples are and/or if you only find him attractive because he's gay.  Just finding a male character attractive and wanting to romance him is hardly a fetish.

I was solely talking about the gaming industry, but I think you're still kind of losing the argument if you want to talk about everyday sexism in the world?

Honestly though, I don't know how it looks like in the UK, so I don't really have the right to talk about that, I guess?

Both genders face injustice because of their gender, I don't deny that. Women have to put up with more sexist crap than men, though.

I just read that as in "your inquisitor owns a brothel".

Dagna is surely a cutie, I would be happy already if we just had an option to tell her she's adorable.

Not laughing at all. I think he's handsome.  :D   I don't think thats fetishizing. I will rolling a male character for him because he is so dashing and I like the fact he's a Tevinter.

I'm referring to the group of female fans who take it beyond that. They take it to the point of even bashing F/F fans as well as F/M fans.   I saw alot of them insult female fans who shipped femShep with Liara or Traynor.

Exactly.  There is a huge segment of the female audience who take it to the extreme. My brother does not appreciate his sexuality being treated as a fetish/novelty.

It would be interesting to know what the stats actually are.  I suspect that you are basically right that m/m romances are the least played even though f/f romances are the least common in real life.  I wonder for example how many women play gay guys compared to the number of men who play lesbian women.  I guess we will never know.

This was the result in a recent poll (completed by 3,193 people) of most preferred LIs, run on this forum:

Solas 18.7%

Cullen 15.1%

Sera 13.8%

Cassandra 13.5%

Dorian 12.9%

Iron Bull 12.3%

Josephine 8.1%

Blackwall 5.6%

The assumption that m/m or f/f romances are the least popular would not appear to be correct.

I have a friend that does it without realizing it at least I think they do it, half the time they ship characters its always m/m and they have a ton of m/m anime solely for 'how adorable yaoi couples are' though I've never heard them bash any f/m couples though f/f ones make them uneasy. Okay now talking about DAI very glad that the race gates are on two characters that I'm eh on I would have been sad if I couldn't romance Dorian with my qunari mage. He looks like an interesting character and it'll be really cool to have a companion from Tevinter and hear what its like from a mage's perspective. And I just realized both qunari I'm planning on are gay mages huh odd coincidence oh well not like I can picture them as a different race now, I've grown too attached to the characters.

I'd say it possibly shows that women take part in these polls more so than men do. All of the top three choices are female only romances. Even Cassandra seems to be more popular with the ladies despite being straight, (if these boards are anything to go by.)

While I understand that the Dragon age developers have thoroughly thought out the characters and their stories all the way down to their sexuality, but one of the aspects of the whole world of the Thedas I found unique was their approach to sexuality being radically different then our own worlds. In DA2 we got to full explore this freedom with all of our available LIs, no matter what our own preference for our character was. I understand that each character is unique and the DA developers have put a lot of work in to them, but I just feel that the freedom we experienced in the last game is now being limited by the LIs preferences and being able to fully explore their character in the romantic aspect that we wish.

Because his background story up till Inquisition reminds me of Shepard's "survivor" background. He went through a lot of **** that would give him plenty of reasons to hate mages. Even if he did give in to hate at one point, when it come to being forced to make a choice, he took a stand against Meredith. It takes balls to do that.

I have a feeling that he'll redeem himself to a large part of the community in the Inquisition.

This seems very likely. A poll that also asked for the users age, gender and sexuality would have been more interesting and useful.

The BSN is an extreme outlier group, so I wouldn't take any poll conducted here to be evidence of anything in the overall fanbase anyway, let alone the overall playerbase.
