Mod that shaves Dorian's mustache then? And transplant it to Vivienne's head.

I hope Sera doesn't get modded like Samantha did...

but sadly it's only a matter of time...

I'm calling it now. Deh first frostbite mod will be either making Josephine white or Sera straight.

I don't see a problem with that. It's fictional characters and people just want to romance the one they like best. I don't care how people wanna, play their game. I would be hypocrite to be against modding characters straight since I did mod Alistair to be gay. That was because I Can't stand Zevran and head over heel over the clumsy oaf Alistair. :P

I don't really care about NPC or PC sexual orientation - I think of the PC as a character, not as "me", and have no probs positioning them as straight, gay or bi.

But I do care about personality. DA2 was a disappointment for me in this regard; didn't find any of the possible LI's at all attractive, personality-wise.

Anders was simply a bore; Fenris a little less boring but deeply fractured & with an aura of poor personal hygiene; Isabella wouldn't shut up with her lame sexual innuendo & only the foolhardy would approach her sexually without a good supply of antibiotics; Merril had a certain weird charm but was mainly insane and in her case the physical aspect was deeply off-putting. And Sebastian?????

Avelline was the only companion I would actually want to hang out with - strong, admirable, deeply loyal, articulate - and I would have gladly bonded with her, as either male or female PC. Unfortunately, instead of me she went for the only male NPC with whom I could have considered bonding (ie Donnic).

Anyway, just a data point. Looking forward to see how personalities and characters play out in DAI.

Just as a further comment: I really liked DA2 and I hope that not all of its elements get thrown out for DAI. I thought the Bethany-Warden character was one of the best things ever in a video game; some really deft touches illustrating a lovely young woman forced into a role totally misaligned with her personality and aspirations. One felt cruel choosing to take her down this path, but it was irresistible in repeat play-throughs. And then the contrast with the Carver, the second most interesting character IMO - for him being a warden was a fulfilment, not a travesty, and the contrast between the warden arcs for the two siblings was really well done.

Again, hope we see some of the same kind of skill in DAI.

Agreed.

Mods exist to turn straight gay. Why not turn the gay straight as well? I don't see the problem either. In fact, I am planning on it.

More likely though we are to see mods giving Sera and Cassandra "pretty" make overs with long hair and over done makeup which makes them look like teenage drag queens. Or worse - porcelain dolls that modders seem to LOVE making their PCs resemble.

I think the fact of the matter is that we have not really met any of these characters yet. So how can you be angry that you didn't get the options for love interests that you wanted?

We haven't met Cassandra or Varric?

Agreed.

I wouldn't plan on any mods for this game.

Totally unrelated, but I absolutely love your choice of avatar, Maria. I really like the look of the Warrior Hawke.

mustache shaving needs to be the first priority for the modders.

Although I'm sure there will be 50 nude chick mods before then

Is it a mod when theres a nifty save game editor that switches your Inquisitors gender?

The only thing that has offended me as a gay man about Bioware is the constant Miranda ass shots with NO Kaidan ass shots. That's the true crime.

And "gaywashing" doesn't also fall into the same category?

Given how limited any capacity to alter the content will likely be, I don't think "straightwashing" is really a thing that can happen.

You might be able to trick the game into thinking you're the correct gender for the romance, but all the content will still be the same (the character will still be gay). In that context, I don't see an issue with it; as long as the person doing it recognizes that they're changing the game so they can access content they wouldn't otherwise see with their preferred gender (i.e., they acknowledge that it's a gay character but just want to do the romance), I'm not sure why it would be an issue.

Changing skin color is wholly different. You're not locked out of any content because of the color of some character's skin, and unlike hacking access to the gay romance, you definitely are erasing part of the character's identity by modifying their physical characteristics this way.

If one thing does come out of modding appearance, I just want them to mod away Dorian's mustache. I just am never a fan of mustache and not a lot of people can pull off the mustache's look, Dorian is not one of them.

So, are they? Why? Aren't people allowed to have preferences any more unless they fit your ideology? Or are you unable to distinguish between personal preferences and political agendas?

Because political agendas have never influenced preferences. Black women aren't constantly lightened among other things on glam magazines either.

*sighs heavily*

I don't hope the game is difficult to mod because hell I want to mod (particularly lol 8 ability slot garbage) but. *sigh*

Sometimes I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry.

You know, personally I don't care about this kind of stuff enough to have strong opinions about what should or should not be modded. I've never used a mod that changes anyone's race or orientation. Skin color is irrelevant to me, and I just play a different gender if necessary. However, what I am seeing is an attempt by a political faction to dictate how others may play their games, and to that I'm extremely allergic. People aren't racist or sexist just because they prefer straight romances and straight white male protagonists, damn it!

(Note: this is about the statement made above that mods that switch orientation to straight and lighten NPC's skins are gross. This is NOT about the way romances work in DAI, nor about the set of LIs therein, with which I'm perfectly fine)

I mean I support anyone's right to mod whatever the hell they want. Creepy skyrim mods, body mods, the whole shebang.

I hate Burger King. I never fail to feel a little nauseous when eating it. But I saw a commercial for it yesterday and seriously went "well maybe I could try a salad?" just...lol at people saying their preferences aren't influenced by other ****. Just lol.

You can only see that scene if you import fShep/Kaidan romance from ME1. So makes sense for that certain cutscene, imagine the rage if it happened in every game where you have kaidan with you. But yeah dat aassss ;)

Yeah well I'm personally a little tired of it. I'm not going to say "OMG don't!" because hell it's your game whatever. I feel the same way about white Isabela users as I do Skyrim rape mod users. Knock yourselves out. I'll be over here. Really grossed out. Which is fine because people have different opinions and all that jazz. Long as we're not personally attacking each other it shouldn't matter how we feel. Sure some people find some of my hobbies offputting and gross and that's fine. XD

Does it really matter though? They're just hoping it can't happen. It's not like it'll stop it (I have my doubts even Frostbite will stop the white Vivienne mod.) Though at least they won't be able to hide behind the "I prefer to romance her like this!" excuse. And there's nothing anyone can do about anyone installing any mod they want on their comps and frankly it's better that way. I can keep my extra quickslots and others can keep their white Isabela mods.

Edit: Who said you were racist or sexist for preferring straight romances and straight male protagonists? Did I miss something?

Because entertainment and by extension, video games, do not exist in a political vacuum?

Granted, it's your game, and you do what you will, but why would you need to make one of the few characters who are gay/not white into something modded as "straight"/"white" respectively, when they're fine as they are? The characters as they're written will always remain as they are because of the dialogue and the animation... the inconsistencies would be evident with the mods in place, for both heterosexual and homosexual characters.

And I like consistency when it comes to characterisation and storytelling.

Then again, there's probably going to be no escape modding the game... people will do as they will so long as I don't participate and go looking for it.

In my opinion, coffee tastes horrible, but I'd never look down on someone who drinks coffee. Alternatively, I am totally judging someone for their whitewash mod.

One of these is personal. One of these is political.
