All I see is someone expressing their extreme personal distaste for such a mod and expressing a wish for it not to be easily available.

Using terms like 'Political faction' is a bit of hyperbole don't you think?

So, are they? Why? Aren't people allowed to have preferences any more unless they fit your ideology? Or are you unable to distinguish between personal preferences and political agendas?

It's called having an opinion. How is me saying i don't like whitewashing mods political? that makes no sense. Last i checked my opinion has no bearing on your or anyone else's game. And last i checked i never said no one can have a different opinion than me so i have no idea where you got that from.

Why, thank you!

Any may I say your choice of avatar is quite pleasing on the eyes?

Maria, where's Lady Sybil gone? I hope at the very least she's still in your heart.

No. No mods. I'm peasant-console player with these kinds of games, so even if I wanted them, that'll be tough **** on me.

We haven't met Cassandra or Varric?

I wouldn't plan on any mods for this game.

Really digging your Avi Maria.

You also said, that you hope modding would be impossible or very difficult. So you don't want that others change their game to make their personal experience with it better just because you don't like these changes even if they doesn' taffect you in any way.Nobody forces you to use or even look at the modded content.

And talking about opinions. This attitude is pathetic in my opinion.

Like i said earlier my opinion on the matter will literally not affect someone's game. I was just stating it, like how your stating yours. You can call it pathetic if that makes me you feel better lol but whatever.

I don't approve of mods radically changing appearance or sexuality but I don't hate them as well
I just don't need them
Cassandra is straight, Dorian is gay, Josephine is antivan, Alistair is fereldanian and that's what makes them themselves. Changing these aspects due to ideological reasons is either offensive (dudebros) or hypocritical (minorities) and always childish
Though I can't help but appreciate efforts of modders if their work is welldone and doesn't simply include lightening/darkening of skin and giving access to additional dialogues

There is a difference by just stating your opnion about a mod or saying that you would forbid it if it was in your power.It's not your business to decide how other people should play their game, as long as it doesn't affect you And I don't understand why a mod, which makes isabella look lighter gets so much hate here. I dind't use, because I think Isabella looks perfectly fine in Dragon Age 2. She is my favorite character and the only one i always take with me (4 playthroughs). because her conversations with other groupcharacters are just hilaroius. This being said, she is also a love interest and people want to be attracted to her. Some people might be more attracted to certain skin colours or specific looks, so they mod them if they have the opportunity to do so. I have some friends, who prefer asian looking women and I'm pretty sure if they would play Dragon Age and have the opportunity to make a love interest more asian looking they would do it. Would they get all the hate? Probably not. Let's be honest-. All the hate is about making a character look more "white". Would it be the other way (white->brown or black) nobody would care.

You know, personally I don't care about this kind of stuff enough to have strong opinions about what should or should not be modded. I've never used a mod that changes anyone's race or orientation. Skin color is irrelevant to me, and I just play a different gender if necessary. However, what I am seeing is an attempt by a political faction to dictate how others may play their games, and to that I'm extremely allergic. People aren't racist or sexist just because they prefer straight romances and straight white male protagonists, damn it!

(Note: this is about the statement made above that mods that switch orientation to straight and lighten NPC's skins are gross. This is NOT about the way romances work in DAI, nor about the set of LIs therein, with which I'm perfectly fine)

I don't see how its more 'political' to ask that identities of characters be respected :huh: . Changing POCs to white people and making gay characters straight even in 'just a video game' seems much more like a politically charged act to me.

There is nothing wrong with prefering straight romances. Thats why there are straight options. You don't like them, well tough ****.

Yes, yes, its your game blah blah blah. Its still racist and homophobic as **** when you get right down to it. And thank god no one will have the Isabela 'but she looked white before' bull to fall back on this time. You change Josephine, Dorian, Viv, anyone, its cause you couldn't stand them being people of color. If you 'beautify' them by lightening their skin <_< , its contributing to societies racist whitewashing of POC's. Literally that simple.

The mod creator said he fixed her overly dark everything and made her a whole new kind of beautiful. That was the original description before I guess he realized he put his foot in his mouth like a moron.

Basically, this is a complete revamp of Isabela. She is by far my favorite companion in DA2, but I couldn’t stand her overly dark… everything! (just not my type). So, I put my PS skills and patience to the test and started makin her a whole new kind of beautiful! The work was worth it cause here she is, in all her fair skinned, blonde haired and blue eyed glory.

*vomits everywhere*

So um...yeah plenty of reasons for people to express distaste of that.

The funny/sad thing is my opinion of the mod was "meh who cares" til I read that description. Then I kind of sighed because wow. Just...wow.

In my opinion, coffee tastes horrible, but I'd never look down on someone who drinks coffee. Alternatively, I am totally judging someone for their whitewash mod.

One of these is personal. One of these is political.

No, it's not. Personally, I'm uncomfortable with m/m sexuality, yet you'll find me supporting gay people's rights and total equality before the law every time it comes up in politics. Should I prefer to avoid gay romances in games (and installing an orientation mod is just a more elaborate way of doing that), that has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with my political stance. I have my political opinion because I highly value fairness, and I won't let my personal feelings get in the way of that, but I still have them and I feel I can legitimately expect not to be judged for them.

If that's so, then this equally applies to mods that make characters gay. Are you willing to concede that's just as "gross"?

That is gross.

White -> PoC is gross.

PoC -> White is gross.

Gay -> Straight is gross.

Changing people, so they can fit your idea of your 'perfect person' is gross.

Changing people, so the 'perfect person' (who isn't in to you) will be into you

is

gross.

It isn't my favorite thing in the world. However, I do think that modding straight characters to be gay is different in some key ways b/c of the social/cultural implications. Real people of color have their skin lightened for magazines and are told that having lighter skin is prettier and better. There are entire companies built around convincing gay people that they 'should' and can be straight, and the idea of corrective rape is still prevalent in many many places. There is no equivalent in the reverse. So if LGBT people or people of color say that mods which perpetuate these concepts in the game upset them, its because those actions are only an extension of real world issues for them.

So the hundred of millions of people who tan themselves through comsetics, solarium or just the sun,  trying to make their skin look darker are just a imagination? You know, there are also entire companies build around to make the skin look "less white". (they mentioned solariums or cosmetics like tan accelerators)

I am very, very happy that my female elven character will get a Solas romance! Cullen sounds like an amazing option, too, though I'd rather he stayed loyal to the female Warden - and he probably will, in my games. I don't feel like other male interests, the warden and the qunari, are "my" characters, but I'm most definitely going to check them out.

I feel like we girls got lucky this time, and I'm very grateful. I loved Mordin's arc in ME3, and I think Solas is going to be amazing - or just very good.

Thank you!

Speaking about mods: as a modder, I think people will mod pretty much everything, if someone's passionate enough and they have technical possibilities(not sure about the latter: DA2 mods are few because of it). It just means that the character is so well-done and so popular that someone is willing to spend hundreds of hours of coding, testing and updating to mod them. But I haven't seen any of the romances, so I don't know if it would even make sense to mod, say, a romance with Dorian for a female elf, or a romance with Solas for a male human mage. Wait and see, I suppose. I'm just happy I won't have to play mage all the time to save Carver's life!
