Must it always happen to someone, though Allan?

Can it not ever be different in the future?

Is numerical equality for all sexualities nothing but a futile hope?

Edit:

I mean in regards to straight and gay options.

DA series have more option for straight females. ME series has more options for lesbians and straight males. It sucks, but I guess it's just up to luck who have more option whether it's intentional or not in regard to distribution.

....

They just said it's plot-related and personality-related.

I guess Solas wants elf babies, and ol' Chantry Chump Cullen is just a li'l bit racist.

A little dissapointed the romances for males. I was hoping romance Sera but again, the same happing with Traynor in ME3, the cute one is lesbian.

meh... Cassandra only romance for me. Really MaleInquisitor need more options.

thats why they should have announced all the romance options at once and not waited soo long

people (including me) are understandably pissed ok maybe not the straight females who somehow got two extra options

Bioware trying to fix th ME Series mistake of giving the maleShep more options.. and now the female Inquisitor has more options..

Nope not fixing but just replacing the problem

or they should have just left it and focused on more important things like gameplay mechanics, leaving the player to interact with and explore character traits and personalities.

Did you check out this thread? Even that hot tub scene looked different for men and lesbians - was longer and more provocative for men.

I mean I know I am turned on by a woman in a bra who is talking about the plethora of medicines she takes. Thats about as hot as it gets. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd be lying if I said not getting Vivienne didn't disappoint me.  As a black male I was looking forward to romancing a black woman for the first time in a Bioware game.  But if it doesn't fit her personality it probably wouldn't have been fulfilling anyway.  They keep saying Josephine is a woman of color but haven't released any materials that really show that.  Anyway I'll probably roll the dice with Cassandra my first time out.  Hot, useful, authoritative, and a romantic.  I love it.  Thanks for clearing this up Mike.  Looking forward to a great game.

Seriously, guys... take the Traynor stuff somewhere else. It's fine if you want to argue about it but this really isn't the correct thread.

It makes sense for there to be more male romances as there are more high-up male members of the inquisition.

There are 7 important men and 5 important women.

If there were 6 important men and 6 important women, then it starts to look more dodgy.

To me I prefer gender equality, that's just my personal preference, I don't think it would have been dodgy but that's just my opinion.

News flash: You can still like, respect, interact with and enjoy a character that isn't romanceable.

Yeah I'm aware of that. But you can't take it to the next level. You can go even further with some characters rather than others.

Cullen spent most of his Circle life around mage humans and elves, so it could be a reason. As we know, there is no dwarves or qunari as far as we can see inside the tower.

I hope I'm not coming across as insensitive, but it seems to me like as long as all the Inquisitors you want to play have interesting romance storylines to pursue, there's nothing to be gained by keeping score. I'm planning to run Inquisitors of both genders and several (maybe all) races, and it looks like they're all gonna have interesting romance potential.

It's not a contest.

I would say it would have been better to do it all at once or not at all, and not announce ANY romances prior to release. Either that or simply not do romances, which gets tempting at times like these. Either way, I'm glad it's finally done, rather than leaving people to set their hearts on characters they haven't met yet only to be disappointed.

I know you may feel a little jaded at times with how people treat the writers in regards to romances, but thank you for everything i hope to enjoy all the possibly wonderful characters you have spent the past few years on!, and if not at least Dorian is pretty. <3

She looks kind of Indian/Pakistani to me. Anyway, she clearly fits the definition of the term.

I agree, all at once is much much better.

Analogous to ripping off a band-aid, the faster, the less painful.

Incorrect.  You , the player, have the option to talk with him or not. So its not forced

So its the number of scenes that decide whether or not the romance is developed enough for you?

And what else could it be? Development doesn't say much about quality of said romance though or the fun you could take from it (which is always subjective). In this regard, I explained why it was off-putting for me.

Maybe I'm a lesbian. Maybe I'm a straight male. Maybe I'm a gay male. Maybe a straight woman. Maybe I'm a genderfluid pansexual. Why does it matter what I am? Would it make my opinion more valid? Less valid? Would it change the validity of my opinion at all? No.

I pointed out reasons why lesbians, to whom theoretically that romance option was supposed to be catered to, could find it problematic, due to damaging implications that devs were probably not aware of.

If Traynor's relationship counts as u-haul lesbian, then so does Liara. Realistically every romance in the game counts as a 'u-haul' relationship. Thats the nature of how romances in games that dont take place over very long periods of time work.

Hardly - you know Liara from the first game. You talked to Traynor for 2 minutes, had sex, and she talks about house and kids...

Its becoming more clear that you're simply looking for the smallest reasons to discount Traynor as a romance because she doesnt fit YOUR stereotypes of what a lesbian should be.

It's really disrespectful to dismiss someone else's opinion this way. Those are not "smallest" reasons and I profoundly explained my point.

I'm confused on how Cullen would be racist. I would say you should take it up with his writer, seeing as how he's not a real person, but his writer is awesome so don't go do that. Just because someone isn't into you doesn't make them a racist. Also, it could be Solas wants babehs, but without an official statement plainly saying that, I wouldn't assume that the only reason he could want a female elven inquisitor is so she can pop out his mini-me's, because apparently that's all women are good for, right? I mean, there couldn't be ANY other logical reason as to why he would want a female as his partner?Yeah, Kay.

Well, here's the thing. It might SEEM like Cullen is stepping in poop here with his preference. Initially I was wary of race-gated options too but it doesn't quite apply. At least not in the sense that we have racism in RL (though the concept of it is basically the same)

For one thing, DA-verse has literal races, not skin colors or ethnicities. And in his case, Cullen spent his life with either elves or humans.

Also, you have to keep the racial dynamics in mind. The powerful race is the humans. Had a human been race-gated against a weak and abused race - like elves, then I could maybe see it as racism.

But in this case, he isn't. I think he just doesn't find Dwarves or Kossith attractive. These two latter races are not subservient or slaves, they still have their cultures intact, they're still a force in Thedas. These are not the same social relations as we have today.

Maybe he has more reasons, we'll know once the game is out.

As for Solas, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd want children, might be part of his character, might not. You can't really blame him for wanting his own race or for his sexuality.
