MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

"Nice bonus" that makes the content done for one specific (straight of course) demographic twice as big as the content for others, since those are full fledged romance options, at least according to devs.

Yes. Full-fledged insofar as the writing goes, but each "combination" of race and gender means an entirely extra set of work for cinematics in full conversations. It's not just a switch we can flip because we want to. We only had time to add so much additional work, and these were the options that made sense for the characters and which made for good stories to tell.

I'm sorry you didn't get as many options as you'd like, or perhaps begrudge those who got options you didn't, but--if I'm to speak frankly--having fans unhappy they didn't get enough gay options in a triple-A videogame title is still a pretty big win in my books. I really hope you'll like the choices you encounter in the game once you play, regardless of what kind of character you end up choosing to play as.

Thank you Mr Laidlaw for officially announcing this.  :)

Wow, so many possibilities!  I think I can finally get over the disappointment I felt when there was only one option for my female character in BG2.  Of course, the wonderful modding community created more options including a romance mod for my favourite male tiefling, who broke my heart when he flirted with Aerie in the vanilla game all those years ago.

I feel for everyone though that didn't get what they wanted and I'm particularly surprised that Blackwall isn't available for same sex romance as well.

For the fist time in years, with the exception of playtesting mods for BG2, I think I'll create a male player character.  I'm really looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and exploring a romance with Dorian.

Pretty sad that what I think is the most interesting character (viv) isn't a LI but whatever. Hope there will be some non inquisition romance as well cause otherwise I don't feel like I've got a choice. It's jose or nothing :P

Can we stop saying everyone's even and the two gated romances are just extra, because that's bs. A group having tow extra options throws any hope of having things even, out the window.

Agreed 100%.  It's really kind of clueless when you have double the romance options to have a conversation about how some of your romances "don't count" to a bunch of people who consistently get less options than everyone else.

I'm intrigued by Mike's statement that player choice can impact the availability of romances. Maybe if you save the village, Cassandra loses interest, or something like that. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I kinda wish people would stop automatically jump on that lol

*IF* that's how his romance goes down (marry me and make lots of elf babbys plz), people will act as though it was inevitable and nobody should have expected anything else.  I'm not saying it's definitely going to be that way, but I'm personally not ruling it out until the game comes out and others experience it (so I can decide whether I want to bother with it myself).

Yeah, go back to pages 130-138 and realise why this argument makes no sense.

Okay being a straight male I have to say to the straight males complaining about females getting more options.......get over yourself. In how many Bioware games has straight males been favored? Almost every time look at ME 3

Straight Males- , Ashley, Liara, Miranda, Jack, Tali, Kelly, Diana (7 for straight Males) and including the gay options of Kaiden and Cortez that makes 9

Straight Females- Kaiden, Garrus (2 thats it) and including lesbian options of Liara, Kelly, Diana and Samantha that's 6 and lets not forget two romance options from ME 2 Thane and Jacob were pretty much taken from them. Also the romance scenes with Samara, Vega and Javik were only in the citadel dlc so they don't count

So yeah straight males really have no room to be complaining about females being favored in the romance field.

Or it could be like ME2, where how you do a squadmate's loyalty mission affects their opinion of you (and in turn whether they're interested in a romance).

Thanks for this part.  I was under the assumption that this wouldn't have been a problem as long as the ways around how the cinematics could be filmed worked like Iron Bull and dwarves.  Figured that it was only story reasons they were gated.

As a straight female player who had extremely limited romance options in ME3 I can sympathize with the straight male players right now who are disappointed. I am intrigued with the idea that the LIs may choose not to be interested in the player based on the player's actions, though. I guess bribery (i.e. gifts) won't work this time! They'll have to like me for who I am!

I have to admit I am a little disappointed that there is no Varric for me though. A sense of humor is a wonderful thing in a relationship! It sounds like the game is pretty huge though and let's face it, the romance option is just one facet of what sounds like something that will be pretty amazing. I hope that people don't lose sight of that.

Welp, looks like straight females got a few more options than the rest of us. Guess me and my straight male bros lost the draw, maybe we'll have better luck next time. Bioware didn't manage a perfectly equal, 1:1 romance ratio after all. Now, the only real question is:

Why does anyone care about this?

Not liking choices, and having few, is a valid complaint. Variety is important, and straight guys have only two: Lady Stab-Books and the Queen of Antiva.

This means that of our core cast, Varric, Vivienne, Cole, and Leliana are not romance options. While we know this may disappoint some fans who were interested in them, we don’t believe that they lose out, as each character engages in their own meaningful story.

It is a pity. Maybe someday? I hope so.

This is a bit disappointing to me.

Out of all the characters Sera was the most interesting to me, the kind of androgynous look that I like and Cassandra didn't really gel with me in DA:II.

For straight-male characters they only have two options, Cassandra or Josephine.

Meanwhile straight female characters have: Cullen, Solas, Iron Bull, Blackwall.

Just seems like there's not a lot of options for my player character compared to the previous games. I mean there's more overall romance options yeah  and it's obvious Bioware has put more work into them with story elements, it just feels to me like it's restricted the overall "choices" to me.

This sounds as if we'll never have to get our hopes up. That we will always get less options than at least one other demographic. If it's the case, then please tell this to us, so that we don't have to hope for something different in future.

Wait, didn't Isabela say that she was going to steal the Queen of Antiva for her next escapade? Keep an eye on Josie, folks!

Anyone can feel free to complain as long as they're not being a knobber about it.  There's a difference between "I'm disappointed I didn't get more options" and "Screw all of you for taking my options, not giving me options, etc."

But that makes absolutely no sense. In DAO you had two, in DA2, you had two, and now in DAI, you have two again. What's the holdup?

Y'know, it's also really interesting that the LI can refuse you if your PC is not the kind of person they like. Really curious to see how this works, there have been hints of rivalries and dislike among the crew and their bios show tidbits about how different and opinionated they are.

I suppose this is not going to de based on Rivalry/Friendship bars like DAII where you can be liked/respected either way? But more like DAO? (if this was already stated, sorry)

But at the same time it gave more choices to people who usually were in the situation you are in now.

Also why so many people assume that everyone who planned to play as straight female is thrilled to play as an elf? What about dwarf and qunari lovers?
