The extra romances are race-gated and probably highly plot-sensitive. You can't really count them as "whole"  as you do the core romances since they are restricted by race. I'm sure they are fleshed out but they are conditioned.

 

They are still there. Just because they're racegated doesn't mean they disappear.

 

Let's talk about full romances and how half of the straight male options aren't even going to be in battle with you or have party banter.

Bioware has been making games for 14 years.  Just because you don't know the history doesn't make the history irrelevant.

Also, no one is treating you like **** because you have the same amount of options as gay and lesbian players, which is the same amount of options that you've had in both of the previous DA games.  Seriously?  Your logic is ridiculous.

Yup, that's a really reasonable approach (the second part. It's perfectly reasonable to not buy the game if this situation is a deal breaker for you).

Agreed 100%.  It's really kind of clueless when you have double the romance options to have a conversation about how some of your romances "don't count" to a bunch of people who consistently get less options than everyone else. 

 

To be clear, I think this particular discussion chain was in response to me, and I don't include myself in the straight female camp.  I wanted to romance women in this game, and I have only 2 options there as well.  I am also disappointed.  There's no denying that.  This is bittersweet news for me.  Cass and Vivienne were my two preferred choices, and I wound up with neither.

 

But I would be much, much more upset if I did not know that the 2 additional LIs were added in later.  They made the effort to give us queer folks choices, and then they added a few more.  I do wish they were not both straight males, yes.  I do wish one or both of them were bisexual, at least.  But I'm trying to keep it in perspective, here--we have not had anything taken away from us.

Not as many romances != being treated like ****.  Romances are a small part of the game meant to enhance the person's enjoyment.  Also, barely any number of people is going to boycott this game simply because they're not getting as many romance options.

And, just to clarify, it's not that you feel deprived of romances that suit your needs that irks you, rather you're fine with what you have, but don't like it that straight women have two more? Genuine question.

 

Yep. They're giving women twice the options despite them already having more in DA2 and just as many in Origins.

NWN - Nobody or nobody

KOTOR - Juhani...kinda... or nobody

Jade Empire - Silk Fox or nobody

ME - Liara or nobody

DAO - Leliana or nobody

ME2 - Liara...kinda... or Kelly...kinda...

DA2 - Isabela or Merrill

ME3 - Liara or Traynor or Kelly...kinda...

DAI - Sera or Josephine

 

I remember how impressed I was when I discovered Silk Fox liked ladies.  The whole idea was kind of unthinkable to me at the time.

 

DAI has goodness in its options.  Y'all's gonna have to deal with it.

Though apart of the minimum for the sake of giving everyone an option, it's a story of two straight men and their straight relationships...

Maybe more diversity in writing room could bring some broader perspective.

If I remember correctly, Gaider's (The lead writer's) openly gay. (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.).  The majority of the writing staff is women as far as I know.  I'm not sure if a lack of diversity would be the problem here.

Look, I'm really unhappy with the distribution of LI's too, but to try to make a case for how you, as a straight male player, are being treated like **** is kind of silly.  You should just say what you mean:  You want to have the most options in the game and, if you don't get it, you will threaten to boycott.

I find the first part of your post ridicolous as well, but that might be becuase while i like romances I don't care about them (or the fact that I'll get less options that someone else) as you seem to care.
There's plently of other stuffs that I'm interested to play in DAI.

That's an understatement, considering they have DOUBLE the options and three times the EXCLUSIVE romances.
