This was not intended to be an us versus them argument. I was trying to point out why I and others are annoyed but of course not a single one of you could listen to any of our points.

What are the straight male annoyances here? As a straight male I've missed virtually the entire thread; could you provide a summary on what doesn't sit right about this for us?

Isn't Isabella supposed to be black, or am I wrong?

I consider her black, or at least "woman of color" to divorce it somewhat from the meaning of "black" in our world.

Yeah, she is.  I just don't want people to forget Dynaheir, the original diva.  She was awesome.

Likewise. You wouldn't believe how many bras I burned this morning. Then I sacrificed a man's tears to the goddess Athena in order to ensure men get less options than women.

That worked really well! Can I get you on a conference call with my bookie? I can probably work up a few tears...

Considering you are talking about including romance options for a 3-5% group it is fairly irrelevant to even consider it in most cases.

Can you clarify? It's unclear which group you're talking about.

Games are a substitute for human contact at this point.

Why? There's gotta be at least one person for you to contact.

We have two romances, In fact as I understand it most groups have two romances. Except for straight women who have 4.

To the first part - some of the more 'vocal', straight male gamers; are claiming to be fighting under the banner of equality, because straight female Inquisitors have more romance options (two of them barred behind race gates).

To the second part - Isabella and Duncan are supposed to be 'Black', previous engine couldn't register it well.

I'm gonna rephrase my original post here in more of a diplomatic kind of way:

Look, dudes, bros, dudebros, we've been there.  Right where you are.  We've been in even worse places than where you are right now.  I remember going into games knowing there'd be romantic content and knowing I wouldn't have any options at all.

And I'm not looking at that now and going, nyah nyah you deserve less now cuz patriarchy lololo

No, what I'm saying is, quite simply, it could be worse.  Is "It could be worse" a valid defense?  Will it console you?  Perhaps not.  Nevertheless, the important thing here is that you were given a choice at all.

I empathize with you if you think you're being short-changed; I've lived with that because of my sexuality my entire life, let alone in mere video games.

But there is nothing you can do about that; it's not up to you.  Take what you're given and be thankful you have a choice at all.  Your turn will come again; it could be far worse than it is now.

If you don't like the options you are given then maybe you will find some semblance of enjoyment in the other 150+ hours of content in the game.  Or maybe you'll just wax and twist your sweet moustaches with Dorian and lord those over the lady inquisitors who, alas, can never know that pleasure.

Okay folks, enough. I may complain about BioWare's romances (Blackwall should've been bi). But even I'm not this hard headed. We don't need to play the who's got it worse game every five seconds. It's tiresome.

End it. Straight females got an advantage. It sucks, it's unfair. But end it now. There's no more that needs to be said. Let's all just hope (or not) that it'll work out better next time. Because the longer we do this, the less chance the devs will continue to take our comments seriously.

My comment? I want a big, beefy knight in shining armour to be gay. I want him to be above reproach, not the slightest bit morally ambiguous (okay maybe slightly), but make him *gay*.

Sort of how I feel.  Blackwall would have really been great and showed some serious progress.  Iron Bull at least isn't a slim elf or a robed man, but he has that whole "I fvck anything" thing going on.  That said, considering the situation I think Cullen would have also been appropriate seeing as he was apparently the "extra".

I also dislike the comments that these proportions shouldn't matter to anyone because straight males always get more. It's not just about them.  There are two other groups here that are always counted among those who receive less.  But I guess the biggest sting is that they had the extra resources to make these romances out of male characters, but couldn't throw m/m a bone.  M/m interests have been the least represented of all.  Far and away behind straight female interests.

I am incredibly disappointed and it sucks, but this is what it is.  There will not be a second time that I expect BioWare to make reality a little less sucky.

I'm pretty cool with this list. In fact, I like how it may encourage me to play as:

-a female Inquisitor (I will play one if I enjoy the game enough, but this could make me create 2-3)

-an elven Inquisitor (elves are #3 on my list.. below humans and qunari)

Now my thoughts on options:

Cassandra - A given. Dunno if I'd go for it, but I'm fine with it being there.

Blackwall - Cool! Possibly may be deeper than we're giving it credit for so far.

Josephine - I'll have to see.

Iron Bull - Mine. Mhmmmm. m/m

Sera - Neat. I don't get the hate I read sometimes.

Dorian - A bit of a stereotype so far, but then again, I've seen Bioware present and then utterly subvert stereotypes. He's not my thing, but I'm open to, I dunno, watching his romance on Youtube or something, haha.

Cullen - He wasn't originally set to be a romance? :o lol

Solas - A bit restrictive, no? I mean, I can get it, but considering its restriction, I sure hope that the script and characterization gives very good reasons for this.

Others:

Varric - A bit disappointed. Honestly, he's the only dwarf character I want to m/m romance. But I'm also not very surprised.

Vivienne - VERY surprised. I even think that Bioware might be making a mistake here by not having a m/f romance with her. *scratch my head* Like Solas, I hope there's a good reason.

Cole - Moving on..

Leliana - I'm honestly okay with this. Less complicated.

Remark on the last few pages I've read - Grow up. Yes, I do think that another (singular) romance for male Inquisitors (Vivienne?) would have been good, but you do have options, and honestly, I feel they are good ones. And I also think that whatever your orientation is, if you play your own gender you should have two or more options, and wow, you have two! You're good. Really. Save the outrage.

This does make me think that BW would be served well by somehow implementing a female romance (of sorts) in a DLC for male Inquisitors.

Less options, Really. At first it was annoyance but it became more aggravated when everyone else decided it was high time to attack us for voicing our opinions.

You're upset because straight women have more options than you, a straight male, the target majority demographic of all video games. Not only are you disappointed in not getting the most options, you're repulsed by the obviously poor business decision on BioWare's part to not prioritize you over other demographics.

disclaimer: in an ideal world, everyone would have gotten equal options. i do want straight males to have equal options to women. i also want gay people to have equal options to others. this thread is descending into ridiculousness.

I put in for account deletion. This is why I prefer being an antisocial gamer.

Before I go.....

If any of you are really that f*cking pissed off about the game, then don't buy it. Stop bitching like a bunch of babies and get off the forums and cancel your preorders.

If you still plan to play the game, then shut up. You obviously have a reason to enjoy the game.

The Bioware staff have been nothing but receptive. These men and women have poured so much time and effort into a god damn GAME, to just, you know, bring a little joy and entertainment to our lives. We live in a sad, sick world full of news headlines that would make you forget who is romanceable in a game.

For christ's sake. It's a game. It's meant to be fun. If you don't think it will be fun then go play another game. The devs have worked hard, in spite of having one of the absolute worst fan bases when it comes to feedback/demands/yelling and screaming.

I'm getting away from these forums because I want to enjoy the game without all these comments burned into my memory. I could do without the negative associations. Though I'm certain it's a bit too late for that. This is the last time I so closely follow the release of a game. May future DA games pleasantly surprise me. And may all the future whining go unheard.

Sh*t.
