My, this thread has certainly exploded a couple hours ago, hasn't it?

I don't want to argue at all, I want people to see my point. Honestly it's the shock of it that's most surprising for the people who are annoyed I think. When you've been represented in everything ever and then someone else gets more than you it's a shock to the system.

A healthy one, I might add.

*peeks back in to say*

Sexuality is actually tied to who you are. It's part of it. The expression of it is a way one can relate to others. It's not the most vital part of what makes a person up but it's there.

So stop being wroooonnnggg, it hurts everybody's heads.

*nyooom*

This is a completely separate debate. It's true that sexuality is not the defining characteristic of people, but it does have something to do with shaping the experiences of a person. If we go back and change me into a straight female, I'm going to live a very different life and, as my experiences will have changed, so will my personality and how I handle situations. Again, sexuality does not make me all of what I am, but it's a contributing factor. Saying that changing my sexual preference wouldn't have any effect on me is like saying changing my sex wouldn't have any affect on me.

But you have still not answered my question. Would they be able to fix this perceived injustice with DLC?

This thread is so full of posts deserving likes, but these two most of all. I remember how I got hammered down months ago (I think around the time they revealed romances wouldn't be all-bi?) for suggesting sexuality had any influence on personality at all.

Because straight women got double the romance options, that's why everyone is up in arms. To us affected it feels like pandering.

Everyone? This thread at least has been kept going for pages upon pages by a whole lot of two people including you that are all up in arms. Almost all the other posts are by several people that get the basic unfairness of it but find (particularly your compatriot's) overblown whining ridiculous. And from what little I've had time to look elsewhere, that seems to be the general trend.

Self image projected onto the Inquisitor - fantasies crushed?

No, can't be.

Or...could it be that straight females got double the romances that everyone else got? Just because you don't agree with us doesn't mean you should sweep our concerns under the rug as if they don't matter. Everyone deserves an opinion.

Personally.......well crud...I am trying to get thru this thread but it keeps jumping too fast for me....

I like the options.  THANKS BIOWARE!  :D

Wow, seems I missed a lot of grippers.

It's balanced 2 straight, 2 gay, 2 bi    then added 2 for straight females.  Cheers!!  :D

Enjoy ladies, am happy for you all.  But its not like us guys could just roll females to play other options anyways. ;)

Aww, don't let a few people posting over and over sour your opinion of every single person here.

Less options, Really. At first it was annoyance but it became more aggravated when everyone else decided it was high time to attack us for voicing our opinions.

Actually, I do emphatize with you, and anyone else, and am not a man. I also don't really like the fact, that if someone tries to voice unpopular opinions, even if they weren't attacking anyone, people will try to shut them up immediately. Admittedly, I think you might have been guilty of it too.

Like, for me, I actually wanted Leliana as a romance option, and bummed that she isn't. Whilst I don't go complaining much about it at all, and try to see the other good sides, I really resent the crowd who doesn't want Leliana to be a romance for story reasons, for attempting to always shoot down everybody who dares insinuate otherwise. It's like, only what they want matters. Not cool at all.

I get that people are upset, but come on being aggressive and rude is uncalled for. Sorry your not getting everything you want welcome to life. How about instead of being angry for your own loss be happy for others gain. If everyone got what they wanted in this game, I'm sure it would be a piece of ****. Bioware make great games don't harass them because you didn't get everything you wanted.

Okay. Well, I wasn't around for the attacking part but 'm sure there was enough provoking going around on both sides, as tends to happen.

As for having less options, I said it in the Scuttlebutt romance thread I believe, but: I don't believe each game needs equal representation. That puts a bit too severe of a limitation on the devs for me. After ensuring each gender/sexuality has multiple options, I want the rest to be whatever makes sense for the writers.

But equality is still important to me...in the long run. The above logic can be problematic if game by game the extra options always turn out to favor one group. So hoping for equality in the long run means being okay with inequality short-run (potentially) in exchange for the writers to be given the creative discretion I believe they deserve.

But here's the thing: Inquisition isn't BioWare's first game. It isn't being released in a vacuum. Before Inquisition there was DAII (which was equal) and before that Origins, and the ME series, and Jade Empire, and Baldur's Gate, and KOTOR. And more often than not, we straight male gamers made out like bandits. So if we're talking about equality, like really talking about long-term equality, then I need to be open to the idea that the next 7 games will feature less straight male options than another group!

And I am. I am perfectly okay with it. As long as I am considered, which is never going to be a worry.

I was grouped together with a very unsavory misogynist however and thus everything I say is dismissed, it's rather frustrating.

Doesn't necessarily equal double the quality, mind you.

Also, of course your concerns matter, but what is done is done.  Either focus on what they game is going to deliver or choose to be angry over romances you haven't even experienced yet, who knows - you might of disliked those romances if they were available to you, but alas - I can already tell most are annoyed because of their own self projection on what they personally want out of the game - we all do it/see a bit of ourselves in certain characters or our PC, so I don't see the point of denying that.

I think the hetero ladies were given more options just to try and make up for the fact that they can't have Dorian or Sera.

Cuz Dorian and Sera seem, well, kinda way awesome.  Honestly, it was probably an apology.

Looking back at this whole discussion, the only thing that actually baffles me is that people who've been in this forum a while and know the trends, would go out of the way to instigate and make it a "us vs them".

I mean I enjoy a flame war and a 50 page silly argument as much as the next person, but really, this has gotten old by now. We need more exciting conflicts. It's not fun to bicker and counter strawman arguments for so many hours.

Get in shape bsn.

I feel that's necessary to voice my thoughts and defend them when attacked, which is why I've posted so much in the past few hours.

I don't think it was an apology.  :)  I can see Cullen gated that way from his history. I don't know Blackwall that well though.  I can see Vivi wouldn't be interested in romancing honestly. I will enjoy their friendships very much. :D

I haven't seen this asked of you yet, so I'm curious. As previously stated, the game was originally created with 2 options straight females, straight males, gay females, and gay males. They then found out that they had extra time and resources to add in two additional romances, but not additional characters. The options at this point were Leliana, Cullen, Solas, and Vivienne. Leliana was out because she was a romance option in a previous game, so we can take her off the list. Assuming Vivienne has story reasons for not being a romance option (she's married, in a relationship, just got out of a relationship and isn't interesting in dating, etc.), we can also take her off the list. That leaves Cullen and Solas. Both are straight males (and one of them is only interested in Elves). How would you have handled the ability to add in two additional romances with all of this information in a way that you feel is fair?

Of course, I've only witnessed a few pages - so I'm out of the loop of what happened, regardless... I still suggest it's better to focus on what the game will deliver and find pleasure out of that because who knows, what content that you choose to involve yourself in might surprise you immensely and it's better to have a positive outlook than dwell on what could of been.

Sometimes I wonder if the quality also bother the players? I for example am not so upset that I got less options then another group, but that said options I have are underwhelming. Especially when compared to others. I'm pretty sure if I had at least one romance that I truly found appealing, I wouldn't even bother to come here to share my frustrations.

This romances feel like Bioware tried, but failed.
Only one m/m option if you don't like Iron Bull (no, not everyone does, he's very special) and i am kind jelly of the Lesbians who can romance Sera and Jo. Two really, really beautiful girls. And we gay like 'na, Dorian's handsome don't need another handsome guy'. Ahum....

And i read 'equal' or 'balance' in the first post if i am right?
I am sorry... I can count and i hope Bioware also can count.. this isn't balanced at all.
I wish they had made it like DA II and no one would complain about the romances.
*still for Solas Bi romance*

Well you're right but I was more than a little bit annoyed when everyone dismissed everything I had to say because one extreme person agreed with me. Sadly it's too late.

I wouldn't have given them both to straight females that seems a bit of a misstep which is why i was annoyed in the first place. It wouldn't have been completely fair but it'd have been less skewed.
