Are you referring to the following quote:

I guess it wasn't clear but the use of quotation marks, followed up by the parenthetical remark immediately following, was that I was intending on reframing it to be a bonus for one group, rather than a penalty for another.

quite. I know there was a intention to make it sound nicer or putting it another way, but I see that, I hardly think a reward for someone else.  Really in essence in the overall dragon age series thus far that is 3/3 in that females straight/bi/gay havent gotten the same or  more options or bonuses when it comes to romance options. It is quite funny as I had watched a show match making show today in which the experts did say that males tended to actually be more romantic in a relationship..

I know that this primarily goes beyond the scope of one game, it is just a real shame this is some of the logic. Personally I never even considered trying to put such inequality one way or another.  I would had just given everyone good opportunity.  Hell I would have even made leliana romance-able as well, even if for a second time since there is soo much that could be done with that.

I'm a English major and came with this description for media.
"Art has a message of some sort."

"Entertainment has no message other than have fun."

"Neither is inherently superior."

That sort of denies art where the purpose of it is to explore stylistic boundaries or simply be excellent in its own right.

Haha, the thread really did get banked.

Still going strong though, also *high five* to the mildly sarcastic logical people, it was fun to read some of these posts.

And I am so sorry for Mr. Mod having to deal with all the bone-headedness, and still remain admirably calm and polite. Hard not to crack a joke at ignorange's expense.

Can't wait to see Viv in action, I do hope she's an Aveline-type of buddy (whether or not she has someone else is irrelevant). It'd be an honor to befriend the Beyonce of mages in DAI.

Hilarious bit of black comedy: I knew players who wouldn't romance Isabella because of the STD joke.

Mass Effect 2 also had the Scale Itch joke. It wasn't even mentioned in relation to Kelly Chambers but the running joke on the forums was she was responsible because in a totally unrelated conversation she'd been open about her pansexuality.

Yes, well academia exists to get into arguments about stuff like that.

And get paid for it!

It's wonderful that way.

I confess to being embarrassed by some of my posts.

But even if they didn't, the fanboy drool would still exist. Fans just love fictional romances.

I don't see a reason to be more embarrassed about wanting the best romance system possible than wanting the best system for murdering trolls and fuzzy woodland creatures. Everyone's different, it's not a big deal.

First of all, I find it exceptionally disrespectful and offensive to take a world where FOUR people happen to be bisexual and dismiss it as "everyone is bi stuff."  As though the mere existence of such a small number of bisexual people in your party is somehow unrealistic and world breaking for you.

The "two wrongs don't make a right" leads me to this, as you were willing to dismiss my analogy on your own whims - it's video game content that makes up such a small piece of the overall content. To then use an extreme analogy such as murdering some guy's family after dismissing mine as not being relevant because it was about saving a life while romance stuff is "just based on inequality" strikes the conversation as no longer being intellectually honest.

Not everyone in DA2 was bi, or at least how could you tell? In that I  of course meant the 4 only love interests. Oh so they just "happened to be bi?"  You think I am going to buy that as realistic? Really. I thought the excuse or reason for it was just so it pleased everyone. LIke, they were straight or so if your this gender, or gay/bi if this. Hard to tell really what their sexual preference truly is  or if it was just a game mechanic.

extreme analogy? Perhaps, but I did need a drastic one to show how I feel about this chauvinistic logic, and that is one that came off the top of my head. Perhaps I could find a more reasonable better one, but it is 2 am.

I am being honest. I always am, I am not an angry rage filled person spewing nonsense just cause I dont like the implmentations, but I dont sugarcoat things either. Granted I don't have the greatest speech or PR methods like you devs, nor can I formulate the best words or phrases, but I do speak honestly.

Still some of these posts are just sad, I have way more to worry about in life than who I'm going to romance in a video game and some are using this as an example of social commentary on sexuality in reality. You said your a english major well I'm a psychology major and some of the posts I've read make me question some's grasp on reality.

I think BioWare should reveal the love interests before the game ships, and all at once. Or at least within a couple months of one another.

Trust me, you don't want me to spend *two years* infatuated with a character and then learn while playing that they're gender gated. After all, if BioWare didn't tell us anything, I'd go in assuming all-bi again.

You can say that I'm stupid. You have no idea how foolish I felt when I learned Cassandra was straight. She's probably the only time I assumed a woman would be available to me. Looking over my old posts, I'm embarrassed.

But learning months in advance is so much better than while playing for me.

I agree 100%. I know now the hell all the Varricmancers have endured.

I'd trade both Josephine and Cassandra for even a lesbian-only Vivienne romance. And I LIKE both of them. A lot, actually. They're just... they're just not Vivienne. :(

Sebastian was straight.

Many people saw that as a mistake.

Aveline was bi since she flirted with FemaleHawke. So there were FIVE people who were bisexual in Hawke's party. Which while rather unlikely is no more unlikely than a bunch of dragonslaying adventurers killing thousands.

:-)

Thank you Bioware!

Amongst the raging and LI stupidity going on, I'd like to congratulate you for creating some characters that have great replay value.

I personally never play male leads in games with LI, well you've managed to change that.

Not only will my default female inquisitors be fun to play, but you have finally made me consider playing male inquisitor...sounds trivial, but I don't actually buy games where I have to play as a male lead. Personally as a straight woman, I find puerile sex LI games such as the Witcher to leave me cold. You did reasonably well with ME where I almost rolled a male Shepard for Tali. With DAI you have outdone yourselves...I am actually looking forward to playing a male inquisitor. Kudos to you all!

Well, one of those cases where I can appreciate that what I may want to do might not be the best course of action for the fanbase or for the project, perhaps.

He is saying he can't accept your analogy because you immediately threw out his for being too extreme, and then offered a more extreme one. If you insist on using extreme analogies but do not allow them for the person you are talking to, that is a unfair and disingenuous conversation.

And yes, 4 bisexual people in a group of 6 is not only realistic, but it has happened randomly to me and was quite a shock to all of us but truly happened. These things just do.

I knew Isabela was, with DAO and all, but with Anders talk in DAA about settling with a woman it makes me question things, but guess that answers things.

"the Beyonce of mages in DAI" ...

I like the way you think - Also. Since you appear to be someone of a level-headed persuasion, who is it you're looking most forward to Befriending/Romancing? Maybe just take around for Party Banter?

Totally the Beyonce of DAI., I mean LOOK at her, so fab.

For Romancing:

Well, being a straight-female myself (I think) I initially thought I'd go for the straight man first.

But NOPE

The idea of Vivviene appealed to me so much for some reason, I would have wanted her first or parallel with another game even if I had to play male to do it. Now I really want to be besties with her and don't begrudge her not wanting my PC (I mean, if Beyonce would even GLANCE at me, I'd prolly faint with excitemen so I'm gonna do my best to impress Viv).

Mr. Bull (as I have taken to calling him) is probably who I'm looking forward to the most, he's unique among DA-verse romances and he sounds like a genuinely good guy (also MAYHEM). I generally like leaner looking male characters (like say Fenris - who is awesome because of his character even though initially I found him pretty as heck) but Mr. Bull kinda won me over with his voice and with him being a complete opposite to the Qun values that we've come to know of, while still actually obeying it.

I was torn between these two, and would oscillate but now the decision  is made for me and I will stick to Viv like a best-friend limpet no matter who else I romance.

Next in line was Cullen. I've kinda wanted to see what he'd be like since DAO. Plus he's such a dork-nerd, how can I not romance him?

Then I think I'd like to see what Sera and Dorian are like.

I've been thinking of Solas as some kind of hot-dad thing and I was surprised that he's an extra, but maybe I'll role another PT if I'm feeling completionist. (I don't wanna die of old age playing DAI)

I don't know WHEN the heck I'll make the time for Josie, Blackwall and Cassandra but there's always youtube.

For befirending:

EVERYONEEEEEEEE.

IMMA MAKE YOU GET ALONG I SWEAR TO GOD. I WILL RELOAD THE WHOLE DAMN GAME IF I HAVE TO FIX ANYTHING.

Ahem. Also Cole is my baby and I shall protect him like a fierce mother tigress *cradles* (my sweet murderous baby who wears umbrellas for hats - much like Grunt in a sense)

Looking forward to Morrigan and Leli convos.

And obviously everyone else.

And I will also play an FElf at one point and shamelessly flirt with every available companion and NPC. Then turn out to actually be asexual. Because I can.

What about you?

Edit: I also realize I'm fangirling excessively, but I actually think this is what this thread should be used for, not useless "romance counting". Tell us what you look forward to the most and why. Or what quirks you plan to add in your playthrough. That kind of thing. And be nice to the devs.
