No, that's not at all what I'm saying. I'm suggesting that perhaps being offended in this case is an emotional response due to feeling that your demographic is being slated, particularly since you may feel as though you are not part of the problem/responsible for the situation and that therefore you are a victim of generalisation.

I can understand that, but privilege exists regardless of mindset, and without acknowledging it's existence we cannot hope to challenge it and bring other demographics to a place where the privileges are equal. It's not meant to be a reflection of SWM as people, merely an acknowledgement that there are so many other options for this demographic that it's not unreasonable to offer an extra hand to a different demographic in a single game.

I hate to say it (much shame as I am a straight white male), but he is stating facts. In one of his posts he also stated that straight white males still have to work hard to do great things. So that sounds fair, but you cut the last bit off. You're just looking for someone to hate, and poor Allan happend to be the guy in power you could bash on.

Why would you be ashamed to be a straight while male?  This is what I'm talking about.

My favorite LI is deffinately Sera so far. Her fun and witty banter as well as her humble beginnings draws me to her. It helps that she is rediculously adorable. Second is Dorian. I may be a straight male, but his witt and incredible mustache. Just awesome!

Do you know what your problem is? You tried to read between the lines. Reading between the lines often comes from a biased point of view. It leads to seeing things which aren't there. Some people want to be offended and will always find something to be offended about. Seeing Allan's post as insulting is very similar to people being insulted after a comment David Gaider made regarding dwarf romances which offended people with dwarfism or people who know people with dwarfism. People just want to be offended nowadays, which is why I absolutely hate political correctness. It is way too easy to make anyone feel offended nowadays.

I know how to read between the lines.  The point Allan was trying to make (particularly in the post he made when the topic was locked) was essentially "NOW THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT! HOW DOES IT FEEL STRAIGHT WHITE MALES?"

 

It was insulting. And yes, I chose it interpret it that way.  It's all subjective anyhow.  If I interpreted that way, then clearly he didn't convey it right.

 

As I stated, would you prefer that he used 100% political correct wording in his post?

 

Would you have appreciated that more, or would you have used that as a launching pad for your complaints?

I just don't like his character, but I can't put a finger on why as of yet. 

 

If I were to wager a guess it would be because he seems to be a male version of Isabella so far, but that opinion may change when I play the game.

Welp, came in here to rejoice at Cass not being race-gated but instead find myself to be fuming from Allan's diatribe against straight white males. I didn't even care that straight males didn't have as many options as bisexuals or gay men or females but with every post Mr. Schumacher makes, I'm becoming increasingly convinced he has a serious chip on his shoulder against straight white males. And for the love of God "white male privilege" should never be a term used seriously. I can't speak for BioWare's intention on making the romance options for this game. I can't speak for what they had in mind when deciding on the ratio there for gender availability. That would be a bit presumptuous on my end. But regarding Allan's posts? I find them offensive. Gravely offensive.

Straight males DO have as many options as gay males and gay females.

The fact that you thought they had more than you when they actually had the name number shows your entitlement clearly.

Schmooples was an amazing conversation if you had Leliana and Oghren in your party at the same time - the Banter was funny -- Nein, HILARIOUS.

 

And I liked how (depending on the frequency) it also changed your idle banter when you were doing quests, or those special options you got during certain dialogues.

What I am seeing instead is a post by a developer explaining that to him it would be more appropriate to give the extra options to a historically deprived group compared to a group that on average has far far more options than the others. It's not something anyone should be ashamed of, merely a fact that Allan has stated he would prefer to give a little to redress the balance, than to continue adding to the increased options that SWM already have.

It has nothing to do with his potitical correct wording.  It has to do with the underlying theme of what he was saying.  Sure, on the surface, it seemed like he was being neutral; but some of the things he said and the way he said them...It's like he honestly believes straight white males deserve all the short-changing we can get.

I believe you are reading too far into his tone. If any harshness was given it was due to the severity of the posts he was responding too, not meant to insault or degrade SWMs. I hate to say it, but this argument has become redundent. I am seeing no new evidence on your side of the debate, and believe we are both wasting time. File the complaint that you are undoubtedly going to file and wash your hands of the incedent so we can continue posting on topic.
