i just wanted to say on a more positive note, thank you bioware for all your hard work, the amount of time and effort gone into making this game is appreciated, not to mention all the time spent working on this game meant time away from your family, i for one am looking forward to playing dai, these games have brought out many emotion in me, if there is one thing bioware are exceptionally great at doing it is making amazing games and companions that i get very attatched too, i have seen so much negativity lately, it has made me stay away from the forums alot, i figured a positive comment is much needed to show not all of us are bad on these forums, i don't expect everyone to share my opinion or agree with it, it is my opinion alone, and for what it is worth i can't wait til november to play what looks like it might just well be my best game ever played yet, thank you so much for keeping me entertained :)

great Post Allan.

can I ask what was the reason behind on the decision for romances to be limited in each group: straight males, Bisexual males/females, Gay males/females.

sorry, I'm deaf, so I'd like to know some more clarification on this so I could understand.

In general, to better represent the idea these are actual people. Everyone in Skyrim is bisexual because they want to make everyone available to everyone.

Lesbians, bisexuals, gays, and straights in Dragon Age help the illusion these people are 'real' and make them better representations of people that Bioware wishes to represent.

I think the diversity of orientation was sealed when people told David Gaider and other developers, "I pretend Merrill/Anders/Fenris is straight."

Really? Isn't that what happened in ME3? straight males got an obvious bigger options then everyone else and people showed concern about that. Were they wrong about that as well?

It has to be analyzed from the greater cultural lens on a macrolevel in order to understand the complaints.  A single game isn't an issue.  Nor is it a remedy.

The issue is when looking at the pervasiveness of the idea across all games, and even all forms of entertainment.

Which is why I don't consider the context of the complaints to be equivalent.  I'm much more of a "big picture equality" type of person, rather than "any single individual game must be perfectly equal."

Currently deeply disapointed that Vivienne is non-romancable for several reasons (personal, non objective reasons)

- I like that for once a nice looking Black Woman is in-game playing a major role (with a great voice actress)

- I am reliving the whole -No Tali Romance in ME1- aaaaarghhh (and I fear she wont be as popular as Tali as for them to make her a romancable character in DAI2)

- I didn't like any romance in DAO and DA2, DAI seems to repeat the same sad history when it concerns me, that really is too bad because I really like DAO

Hope we get Viv DLC soon, I'll cough up the budget if necessary for the development Mike, what could that be, like 2-300k? peanuts no ;)

Anyway anxiously waiting to see ingame why she didn't fit the 'romancable' profile. I hope its justified!!!

Personally, I can't see how things could realistically get much better than an occasional game that is equal.  That's really what I would want, anyway.

They should have given a balanced number of choices for all parties involved. 2 is not plenty compared to various other options that are obviously being catered to.

Male gamers have been catered to for years.  The rest of us had scraps or nothing at all.  I can understand why you are annoyed but we have adapted for years.  Its not difficult to play different gender characters. You won't lose your identity by doing so.

Male gamers are blissfully unaware there's more (very slightly) women than them now according to recent surveys.

Allan alluded that it's part of her story arc we find out. Like a secret family or dead husband or imprisoned one or something.

Sorry i'm late guys. I've brought an extra wagon's load of pitchforks and torches. No need to worry about payment. They're on the house.

I prefer a more civilized weapon.

I think its highly likely i'll come away wishing they'd focused their energy on the original 6 LI's, rather than making these very unbalancing additions.

I think that gaming would benefit by having gay and lesbian relationshps (and protagonists) feature more prominently than they do now.

I'm okay (and encourage) the idea of a game like Uncharted having a character that happens to be gay instead of straight.  I think (but am not 100% certain) that they may be going in the direction that Lara Croft is a lesbian with the reboot, which I think is also a good idea if so.

Can you imagine the stink that was raised if DAI had been released and Cullen was NOT romanceable by anyone? I shudder to think of it.

I agree.

Of course, there's a lot of areas that need to be filled in. Ubisoft has the decency to make a game starring a black woman protagonist but it's not a main title release.

They also make a great black protagonist DLC--but with a concept which could have easily been its own game.

And go back to a male white protagonist for 4.

(Oh well, at least Connor was very recognizably not white).

They also create something like Watch_Dogs with its female characters all existing in relationship to its bland white male heterosexual protagonist.
