I'm kind of disappointed that Blackwall is straight as opposed to him or Vivienne being bisexual, but I didn't really plan to do more than 4 playthroughs which means I can do seperate playthroughs for Iron Bull/Dorian/Sera/Josephine which should be good!

I guess it's not the worst thing that the majority of romances are straight, but I really hope fans don't erase Iron Bull's/Josephine's bisexuality/pansexuality as well

I'm actually looking forward to the romances in this game in previous ones the options weren't nearly as interesting or as varied.

It's not the number that bugs me.  It's just that I have zero interest in Cassandra (looks or personality wise although that could change), and Viv was probably the most attractive DA universe character I had personally ever seen.  The juxtaposition there is a little hard to swallow at the moment.

ehh. each to their own I guess. I like the idea of viv, seemed a little too shiny for me. It happens in all recent Bioware titles though, it's very hard to make coloured characters that look like they don't bathe in grease

Straight ladies get the only race gated characters, but they also get more romances overall than anyone else.  You get two non-race gated romances and two bonus ones.

That has to be sarcasm.

All you have to do is play a female elf and you get twice as many options than anyone else.

Man I really wish there were CEs in this game.

I WOULD PLAY ALL THE ROMANCES.

There were two straight female options in ME 3.

Plus Thane. James. Jacob & Javik if you're feeling masochistic. They may not each count as a romance on their own, but they do count enough to put straight women over gay men and arguably lesbian women.

I forgot the detail of Cullen having a crush on Human and Elf Magi Wardens. It makes sense that he's race-gatedin that fashion.

I'm also trying to resist so many jokes about bisexual female elves having the most options.

None of those count as romances. Two one night stands (really creepy ones) and then two... unavoidable character dead ends? One of which gets closure ONLY if you get a DLC?

No. Not options.

Wooo-hoooo, info and romances!

To those of you that are happy, congrats!

To those of you that are sad, my condolences - may the future bring you romance options you enjoy more!

I will also say totally preemptively and without reading the thread that:

Part of what makes Bioware great is its characters, and great characters means characters with wants and desires beyond the PC. Like real life, no character has ever been obligated to be romantically interested in you or your character, and I'm fully confident that 1.) Bioware acted according to their characters and 2.) The characters will be fun and interesting whether you romance them or not. Because, really, romance is only one part of their lives and stories.

For me personally, I am preemptively interested in: Solas, Blackwall, maaaaaaaaaybe Cullen, maaaaaaybe Sera, Cassandra, Dorian, Iron Bull, Josephine. Yeah. So everybody. Also, Alistair. Because.

Edit: Oh, oh, oh! And I almost forgot, but I'd like to express again from the very bottom of the darkest recesses of my heart how much I appreciate your (Bioware's) concerted efforts to think of the LGBTQ people out in the world like me and make them feel included and "not an afterthought". Even when you stumble (Serendipity), you seem to acknowledge criticism with an open mind and heart, and I love you for it. Thank you.

None of those count because none of them were recognized romances, as in giving the achievement for romance.  Two of them only get "romance" content in a DLC, and one is borderline date rape

I had this sinking feeling that Cullen was race-gated. But I am glad it's not as bad as I thought it was (sighs with relief that my Lavellan can still romance Cullen). But with this new info in mind, it means I only have make 9 Inquisitors to romance everyone and have a decent ratio of characters (3 elves, 2 humans, 2 dwarves, 2 qunari, 5 female and 3 male, 3 mages, 3 rogues, 3 warriors).

I am a little bummed I can't romance Cullen with a Dwarf or Qunari...but holy cow Blackwall was confirmed as a romance option! I know several people who will be pleased. And it pretty much settles who my Let's Play Inquisitor is going to romance (she is a dwarf and it was originally Varric or Cullen, but then Cullen or Blackwall depending and well...now it's pretty much Blackwall).

But I am just so glad this is all over with and I can go on a Dragon Age Media blackout come the middle of October. (And given my schedule this is not a bad idea anyway. It will help me focus so I can block off 2 or so days like I want to in November.)

Thank you for Mike for the information. I am so glad that Solas and Cullen were added as LIs into the game, it just gives me more reason to replay the game again and again until I've achieved my goal of romancing everyone in DA:I.

Edit: To those who wanted Varric or Vivienne as an LI or to romance a certain LI with a certain character but can't due to gender or race restrictions, you have my condolences.

I will at least try ElfxCullen and DwarfxBlackwall.

All my characters will be nymphos, of course. You aren't escaping your mage mistress now, Cullen.

Super thanks Mike for the comprehensive explanation and revealing Blackwall as the last LI. I have to admit I was pretty much convinced that Vivienne was going to be the next LI but Blackwall is an interesting choice and he is definitely on my list of potential LIs.

I also want to echo all the thanks to BioWare. You've provided 8 diverse and intriguing LIs.

When I originally heard that DA:I romances were going to have set sexualites, I admit I was worried, not because I don't like the idea of set sexualites but because I thought you might only have 4 LIs again and so leaving players with very limited options.

Once you announced that there would be 8 LIs, I became excited because I knew that there would be plenty of options for everyone.

Thanks to Dorian and his wonderful facial hair, DA:I will be the first game where I'll be rolling a gay male and I'm really looking forward to it.

So thank you BioWare for creating characters that have intrigued me enough to try a new role playing experience.  :P

No. Not options.

I also don't count Traynor as proper romance, so it left me with Liara - who, as Hudson said, was not lesbian romance option.

I'm still bummed about Cassandra.

I've started shipping the multiplayer characters though, and I doubt BioWare will touch them.

So, when was the last time BioWare announced something on BSN first?

why not?  She gives the achievement, and has more content than any of the ME2 romances in ME3

Cullens probably was :v

Wow, so straight males have only two choices when it comes to romance. Bummer.........on the bright side, no one can claim that gay men are the last priority of romances for Bioware since straight men has the same number of choices. Interesting that female players get the most romance options, do women complete romances more of the male players? I don't think so but its possible I suppose.

That's awesome to hear. Like Mike posted, I'm very excited for fans to finally meet these characters. I'm also happy we managed to swing still having at least two options for everyone (as before), yet also having greater diversity and representation. I think (and I hope people will agree once they play) that ultimately it makes for interesting variety.

Hurray for the full list!  Thank you to the whole team for all the work that goes into these.  As for who I intend to romance:  Cullen.  But then, I went into DA:O intending to romance Leliana and she offended my elven mage with her opinions about elves.  Then Allistair swept her off her feet before Zevran was even introduced.  DA2, I think I intended to romance Anders, because I liked him from DA-Awakenings, but Fenris' voice made that not happen (that and there is something wonderful/wrong about mage rival-mancing Fenris).
