And Cassandra is wasted on the malequisitors :/

I agree with that. I would have made her my first lesbian playthrough.

I just notice that Dorian face without mustache look a little bit like Haytham Kenway

lol! I was gonna say he looks a lot like Connor Kenway.  Now I KNOW I'm downloading any mod that removes that stache!

See I kind of see Blackwall as a waste as a romance period. I'm really not a fan of the tragic romance.

Who knows. We may cure the taint... it's happened before.

It makes me said that David Gaider has said they've considered scrapping romances altogether because of the way people react.  I was sorely disappointed that I couldn't romance Alistair or Sebastian as a gay man, but never enough to develop any animus towards the Bioware team.  It's great that the devs can create characters that evoke such passion, but people playing a Mature-rated game should be able to process disappointment more constructively than reacting in such a way that talented people just want to quit creating things.

Don't take that comment from David so seriously. It's "tempting" for them in the same way it's tempting for me to throw my computer out the window when I read a stupid post, it's just something you say to vent the frustration, not something you'd actually do. Now if I could throw my computer out the window and it landed on the head of some of the morons giving them crap over something as silly as this, well now that actually is really temtping. :P I suffered today for not eating chocolate, the horror!

Please excuse me if this has been addressed already, I am on my phone and am only on page 77 of this thread.

I just wanted to say that while I can understand people saying things out of frustration (the laptop out the window example), I'm not entirely sure that is the case when it comes to romances in Bioware games. Just for the record, I love the companions in Bioware games, they have changed my gaming world, so to speak. I honestly have a hard time playing rpg's without the in depth companion characters that Bioware provides, and that includes romances. I would absolutely hate to see romances eradicated from Bioware games, but sometimes I can't blame the devs for wishing to do so. To have something that you've worked so hard on, to develop such in depth characters, to provide players with extra role playing opportunities, only to have it all reduced to "they're not attractive enough for me", or "they got more than me, take some of theirs away", must be completely demotivating. I couldn't imagine how it would feel to have years of my work reduced to such complaints.

He is close to his calling isn't he?  I don't find him as a positive relationship, if this is the case anyways.  Guess we will see, cause I don't know, I do know he was a GW for at least thru Origins thru DA2l

So I went through multiple thought processes the past few days over this.

The first was the obvious.  What's up with only two LIs for straight males?  And my brain went to, "Well, Dragon Age has HUGE vocal female audience and they seem to dominate romance threads.  Maybe that has something to do with it."  I mean, they pretty much use three female uberfans on Youtube as free marketing and have made them part of the process of selling the game.  And maybe there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, it's probably a good thing for the gaming industry in general that women have a game that doesn't talk down to them or make them feel unwelcome.

But at the same time, Dragon Age has one of the biggest and most vocal LGBT communities for a AAA game that I've ever seen.  So why not make Blackwall or Solas bi?  I felt a bit like a car slamming on its brakes after all of the talk of inclusion, not to mention Dragon Age 2 having bisexual romances for all, and then seeing that basically straight females have the most choice in DAI.  Just raised an eyebrow for a second or two.

But the conclusion I came to with these questions was this:  Storywise, this is what made sense.  I think everyone is surprised at the exclusion of Vivienne, but it kind of makes her even more fascinating.  Bioware seems to keep certain characters from being love interests if they have a major role to play.  (Or probably wish they had in retrospect when it comes to, say,  Morrigan.) I have a feeling Vivienne is not romanceable for a reason, and that could mean anything, but what I get from that is that out of all of the companions, perhaps she has the biggest role to play.  And because of that, romancing her would just complicate the matter.  Or maybe she's married.  Or seeing someone else involved in the Inquistion.  Or asexual.  Or kind of like Storm of the X-Men in the 80s with a kind of "I don't need a relationship to define me as a human being"  (Something I always loved about that character).  Or is in love with The Elder One.  I mean, who knows?  Ultimately, everyone has options and not even really knowing these characters yet, who's to say whether the character you think you want to romance is even a character you'll like?

And really, I'm just happy the romances are there.  With all of the mixed emotions, I'm sure some of the devs are just tired of the entire subject to begin with.  So, I'm just happy they are there, and ultimately I can't wait to play this game.

Thank the Maker for white teeth mods.

Ain't nobody got time for nasty yellow chompers.

I thought those mods were ridiculous. The game is a freaking medieval fantasy and people are whining about yellow teeth.  Please.

I believe it's been stated that Theodosians have better hygiene than your average medieval European. Who, actually weren't as bad as some people seem to think, in some places anyway.

I mean, they're probably not sparkling white with the tools available, but the vanilla ones looked like they were on the verge of rotting.

Ehh it's not that bad, I mean yellow teeth are a pretty big turn off for a lot of people, and people did have non-toothpaste dental hygiene.

And as for why I wanted Blackwall to be a potential m/m romance so bad? Same as Cullen in one way: I'm a sucker for the experienced knight trope, but he's also big, burly and not at all high-voiced, quite literally my body type (and may also be 'hot' to me..........). One day, I hope to get a Ser Beefcakes, and I do not regret hoping for it. It just sucks that it's not the first Ser Beefcakes.

Maybe in the next game, they'll mix up the tropes a little bit. LI or not, I'd love to see a knight/paladin companion who also happens to be unapologetically gay. As it is now, I'm pretty happy that we've been able to romance the two main human male mage companions so far. Coincidentally, they both seem to share a gregarious and passionately idealistic personality that makes them easily likable.

Heh, I always thought he looked like Altair, but hey, it's still an AC character.

Kaidan and Anders still have a sexual attraction to men. They're not asexual. They may be pansexual, but they definitely have a sexual attraction to men. The relationships are pretty clearly sexual in nature. But I agree that many of these options have their own sets of problems. I was talking specifically about masculinity/gender issue concerns. Cortez is the only other actually gay male that I'm aware of as a LI, so it's hard to judge how gay men specifically are going to be represented on the whole when it comes to masculinity. That we're working with only one other character for comparison is, in itself, a bit depressing.

mShep/Cortez was the better dynamic than Kaidan/mShep in my opinion.  And so many people got bullied and forced to shut up because they were not on the Kaidan/mShep train.

Cortez was sweet...sexy...and the banter he had if your mShep clicked on  him between missions made me smile.

People use this BS excuse that he was still grieving and mShep forced it on him. People grieve in their own way and there was a war going on.

The majority of mShep/Kaidan used the EXACT SAME dialogue as it was with femShep/Kaidan.   Had they really made the effort and incorporated different dialogue I likely would have thought differently.

I believe they used mint leaves or charcoal back in the day. But there was no perfect white teeth in medieval times.

Which not all the mods out there do. Some just make it look like they're not in the process of rotting away.

I said something similar to this point in the Dorian thread recently.  I think the fact that he's already won over several of the devs (males, females, gay, straight) is interesting.  I have a feeling that Dorian is going to be a "mainstream" success and popular with many people of varying demographics.  I'm really going to be watching his reception closely.  If he was done as well as I suspect he was, then he could very well be a turning point for gay representation in mainstream games.

That was likely my flailing.  I haven't played with him much (phrasing...) but in the early going of having him in my group he appears to be a good mix of charming, witty, intelligent, and intriguing.
