And sure I worded that wrong. What I meant is that they prevented the NA gaming industry from completely crashing down. Without Nintendo, gaming as we know it might have taken a completely different turn. Without them, the progress in the gaming industry might have been 5 to 10 years behind of what it is today. Without Nintendo we might not even be playing on consoles now, only on PC (I know some of you think that's a good thing though).

'Tis probably true. I'm appreciative of their contribution, playing mostly on consoles myself. I'm just focusing on what I perceive to be stagnation in how Nintendo handles its game franchises. Playing it safe has worked, but I don't think it should be the relied upon method. That's a problem with this industry, I suppose gamers perpetuate the problem when they eat up the same old franchises year after year and don't try to give new IPs a chance.

True. I'm out here trying to slay dragons on a weekly basis and I just can't measure up. I feel so emasculated right now.

Yeah, I remember hearing FE was struggling before Awakening came out. Kind of surprised about that, I always thought it sold consistently. I don't know many companies that would give their struggling franchises another chance, if any.

Nintendo does play safe, that I will agree with, and I wish they did take more risks and chances like they used to. I still enjoy their games but I would love to see them go back to their old ways. Taking risks, making games that where different. We know when Nintendo puts their mind to it, they can create good, fresh games and that's what Nintendo does need to do again.

 

They also need to bring back IP like Star Fox, a series people have wanted a new, real game for years now.

Some of each really suck and some are really awesome. Just depends on your preferences.

 

I still want my FF12 HD remake on Vita SQUARE. YOU CLAIMED YOU'D THINK ABOUT IT IF FFX DID WELL. I bought it (despite me despising FFX-2) SO WHERE IS MY FF12. *throws tables*

Tbh Nintendo is the company who plays on save the least. While their games seem to be more of the same, they constantly try to add new stuff and new forms of interaction through new hardware.

 

The funny and ironic part is, that we all scream we want change and innovation, but really we just want the same old stuff (but better). Us gamers don't know what we want.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other. I think preference for one over the other comes from what you're looking for in a game. Personally, a lot of Japanese games don't click with me, and the ones that do are more western in influence as far as setting goes. That doesn't mean that I think Japanese games are worse than Western games, they just don't tickle my fancy.

 

I do think the western market is in a bit of a drought though, likely due to the recent jump in hardware. I too have found myself less eager about upcoming releases in recent years.

I always say this, if a SE game is good, look and make sure it was done by SE and not a company they own, because they should not get the credit they don't deserve. they should earn that by doing their own stuff after all the dumb **** they have done.

I'm like that with every company for the most part. It irks me when people give the publisher credit for the work the developers should be getting recognized for.
