Well, the important thing is that you realized it yourself, I'd say.
Ish. There are some games I will say that are still 100% Japanese because of the style. Those stupid dating simulators come to mind.

Hey not all dating simulators are stupid! See Katawa shoujo.

Eh. If I can't fight or kill something, it ain't worth my time.

We have simulators of our own. Big Rigs for instance comes to mind as one of the worst games ever.
There's **** and quality on both ends.

I agree. I finds those to be stupid as well.
Don't forget Hatoful Boyfriend.
Spoiler
Brings a tear to my eye.
It's on Steam now so you have no reason to not buy it.
Oh look. An Informative Video has appeared. The important stuff starts at 1:30.
I already saw that video. There is one by Extra Credits too.
The really great japanese games doesn't make into West because the publishers are hands full with their own IPs so all we get here are sequels from major franchises and/or japanese games who got a cult following (like Persona) big enough to be marketable.
Hm, I can't think of as many Bob, cover me strictly FPS kind of games from Japan, although Metal Gear Solid is a pretty good example for sure, you have your sniping 50 yards across the screen deal. Evil Within is another Japanese game with a fair amount of shooting and cover I'm willing to bet.
There is also the Metroid Prime series (1, 2, and 3).
There are also a number of action games (i..e not necessarily shooters), there are plenty of those in Japan, there are also plenty of tactical games. God hand and the other Platinum games are pretty fast paced action games, arguably even more than some FPS, although they aren't actually shooters.
No Japanese FPS games?
It's like JP Counter-Strike...
edit:
Here's a better video.
F2P too apparently, I'll have to try it out now...
edit again:
Nope.

Eh. If I can't fight or kill something, it ain't worth my time.
You can fight back the tears.
You can fight back the tears.
No tears needed. There are precious few Japanese titles worth porting. It's like I said before, they ape each other to no end, even worse than western devs. The indie scene is mostly western devs as well.
You can fight back the tears.
I already watch actual Animes for that.

Our two conversations are not connected...
I was talking about how Fumbles didn't want to play Katawa Shoujo because "If I can't fight or kill something, it ain't worth my time."
And Katawa Shoujo is neither Japanese or Western, it is 4chanese.
I already watch actual Animes for that.
Katawa Shoujo is a Visual Novel, there isn't much of a dividing line between the two.
To me, Japanese and western games are neither collectively worse, nor collectively better than the other.

This is another fascinating phenomenon to me. A lot of gamers will watch anime, play western video games, and then Japanese video games are this horrible abomination with godawful gameplay and blah blah blah.
It's like, you realize an anime has ZERO gameplay right? For me, any JRPG is more exciting and interactive than an anime, just by definition. Somehow JRPGs are sluggish and dumb and lame but they'll eat up Attack on Titan or whatever? (Which honestly never seemed that great to me)
From my perspective it's just a bunch of haters really, no other reason for the vilification of Japanese gaming.

I don't care for visual novels. The games I like to play are action oriented.

I wouldn't mind playing a JRPG if it isn't turn base, and it is very action packed. The Anime part doesn't bug me; I just don't care for dating simulators.

I love a ton of Japanese games and I recognize they helped build the industry. But for me there is no question western devs are more innovative right now. Japanese devs are notoriously slow to innovate.
Out of curiosity, what are the big JRPGs coming out soon? I don't really keep tabs on JRPG series outside of Pokemon lol
Also Hatoful Boyfriend > BioWare games. Peeps talking about Dorian or Sera or whatever. They got nothing on Shuu.
I only know of ones that don't really have much beyond a small following, and only when they are getting localized.
It's only been eight years since FF XV was announced, I'm sure we will see it any day now...

There's a Bravely Default 2 coming, I think.
