I was just wondering if anyone else has reservation about any of the characters.

The ones I am most worried about is Iron Bull, a Qunari spy, I don't know if you can trust someone who will be sending every move you make to the biggest threat to Thedas.

Vivienne, she is way to ambitious. You can't trust someone with that much ambition. Someone like that could easily betray you without a second thought if it meant they get even the tiniest bit of power.

Cullen. Templar. Once a templar always a templar. You can't trust someone who sees all mages as the source of all evil in the world and either need to be dead or controlled totally and completely. Same goes for Cassandra and Lelianna.

I even have reservation about Blackwall. What if he is there at the order of the Wardens as a spy. Wardens believe in doing whatever it takes to win.

So does anyone else have any reservation about the characters or is it just me.

My main reservation is that Cole's going to be the only character allowed to wear that awesome hat of his.

My only concern, all jokes aside, is that me and Iron Bull won't be able to share shoes. He's probably a size 24 or bigger and I'm only a size 9...

Hm.
You're concerns are what only makes me more excited to meet those particular companions :D

Though i think you're wrong about Cullen, he seems a pretty solid sort of fellow

I agree with who you have reservations for, however I think Cullen won't be subtle in any of his intentions. If he intends to I don't know, slaughter mages, I think we would know.

Two points.

1. The Qunari are not going to kill every man, woman, and child on Thedas. So they're the third biggest threat after the Darkspawn and the Elder One at best.

2. If you allow him to serve as a spy (you don't have to), you get the option of gaining Qunari intelligence on your enemies and turning their spy network to your advantage.

I think 2# outweighs any reservations to them giving reports on me.

I'm not concerned about Cullen. He was a bit forceful, but he grew up and, even at the beginning of Act III, understood where Meredith's detractors were coming from (his mistake, which he seemed to learn from, stemmed that he compared her to Uldred, who was completely off his rocker due to being an abomination. Plus, Meredith didn't go Ax-Psycho until the Chantry blew up.) He's probably the least subtle when compared to Leliana or Josephine, but there's a time and a place for that.

Vivienne...since I agree a little with her, I don't think I have much to worry about. I hope she's funny.

I have reservations about Iron Bull, yes. But as I understand, I think I should be able to convince him to abandon the Qun. Then, we can feed them fake information.

Dorian I'm concerned about, mostly because his whole shtick is "Tevinters need to get over themselves" and "I'm gay, but I can still kick ass." The first I knew already, the second is poor character development.

2# is more part of 1# where Dorian thinks Tevinter society is all about pretending you're Jafar from Aladdin. Everyone wants to be the "perfect" Magister and the perfect Magister is a scumbag.

If they were just honest to themselves, they might be able to reform. I doubt his homosexuality plays any more a role in his life than Cullen (or any less). It's part of who he is but it's another way he doesn't attempt to conform to Tevinter expectations and ideas.

It's just part of his larger nonconformity.

*already put 'M-i-n-e' on most romanceable characters*

... Oh. You mean THAT kind of reservation...

Hmm...

At this point. No.

I know to little about the characters and to little about the story to make that judgement.

Also, I do not consider the Qunari the biggest thread to Thedas. The blight was more worrysome. And maybe this new thread. I'd also worry more about Flemeth going all crazy compared to the Qunari.

Of course there are reservations. Inquisition is a big organization and everyone will have their agendas or preferences. But the funny thing is that even the Inquisitor's background would make anyone feel reservations about the guy or gal leading the Inquisition:

-A human noble from the Free Marches with a family known for its Chantry ties. Would they dwell on politics to favour Ostwick? Would they be a blind supporter of the Chantry?

-A human mage involved in the Circle rebellion. Would they promote a pro-mage agenda, no matter what the cost? Aren't some of the enemies Tevinter mages? Didn't a mage blow up a Chantry not long ago?

-A Qunari mercenary, warrior/rogue or mage. Merecenaries. Aren't they just hired swords that would sell their morals for money? And that thing about being Vashoth, could you trust them? What if they are Qunari spies?

-A Dalish hunter or mage apprentice. A spy! This one actually has "spy" as its background description. Sent by a Keeper with a blatant pro-elven agenda. Wouldn't they be xenophobic jerks that will sacrifice thousands of humans to save one elf?

-A Dwarf warrior or rogue. Oh, my, another spy! And this one works for a famous criminal syndicate. Seriously, would you entrust the future of the world to the likes of Beraht or Jarvia?

So there you are. I hope people don't complain too much when NPCs start questioning the Inquisitor's motivations in-game, because I would do the same in their place.

1. The Qunari are not going to kill every man, woman, and child on Thedas. So they're the third biggest threat after the Darkspawn and the Elder One at best.

Well said. I know that the Qun is a horrible regime, but I'd prefer to live under it than suffer extinction by darkspawn.

Still sick of the 'Viv's gonna betray us for her ambitions'. It's not healthy to go against the wishes of the player.

Oh and Cullen is very vocally no longer a Templar. If you still have problems with him, good luck with getting rid of such an important NPC.

I really don't have any at all and still amazed there are people who will refuse to recruit someone for the fear they might do their own thing without the players say so. Some people act they like will get an endgame from the companions...

Inquisition, overall, has the most interesting cast of characters in a Dragon Age game to date. In my opinion. I want to know more about every single character, and although I'm not a fan of what I've seen of Cole, I will give the guy a chance.

That's a lot of paranoia.

Why are you not worried about Cole, a serial killing spirit/demon?

Why are you not worried about Solas, a crazy apostate mage?

Why are you not worried about Dorian, a tevinter mage?

Why are you not worried about Josephine, a "diplomat" from Antiva?

Why are you not worried about Sera, the elven Robin Hood?

Why are you not worried about Varric, the shifty dwarven "merchant"?

Why are you not worried about the survivor of the explosion, the Inqui---- wait a minute..... :P

Relax and play the game. If you played DAO and brought along Leliana after her crazy-hearing-the-maker's-voice intro, invited the shady and suspicious Morrigan to join you, and/or had the assassin Zevran join you, then I think these others will be fine.

Cullen should be fairly moderate in DAI given he's seen the worst of mages and Templars. Can't say I'm overly concerned about characters trustworthiness. I have a distaste for Viv based on her description. Ruthless ambition and diva-ness are two traits I find distasteful...though Im willing to be surprised.

I felt the same way about Zevran in DAO, so I murder knifed him. After reading up on him on the wiki, I did not make that same mistake in my following playthroughs.

The original post reminds me of the conversation with Alistair in camp about the other companions.  That being said, I really am only worried about Cole for now.  Well, that and I'm worried Iron Bull will be too flirty with Dorian, and I'll have serious regrets of letting him stick around then.  (if his recruitment is optional, that is to say-which it should be!)

I have reservations about DAI, but none of them have anything to do with the characters. BioWare has a history of delivering solid, believable characters. Some I love, some I don't, but most are quite entertaining. To me, that's the important part. I'm not worried about characters stabbing the protagonist in the back or running off and doing unbelievably stupid things while my back is turned. That just adds to the entertainment value! I am concerned that the scope may have been a little too ambitious. Everything is "bigger than ever before"... except the staff. I don't question their dedication or ability, but the strain must have been/must be enormous. I kind of wonder where the cracks will show.

I like how Viv being described as ambitious automatically translates to "worse than Jafar".

I sent this to Mary Kirby via Twitter and asked if I should be worried about Cullen.

I feel so ashamed.
