Do we create our own characters, or recruit them through the story? If it's the latter, how many different characters are there to recruit?FamousAspect wrote...
Hey what's up everyone. It's me, Ethan Levy, producer of Dragon Age Journeys. I thought I'd give you a chance to do some q&a about Journeys in advance of its release. DM your questions and I'll answer the best ones on this thread.
How is exploration handled?
Any idea when future chapters will be released?
Do the characters from chapter 1 carry over, or will future chapters feature a new cast?

- How long will an average play through take?
A play through of Chapter 1, The Deep Roads, takes about three and a half to four hours. I cannot speak to the length of chapters two and three, but expect they will be longer.
- Is it true you can get in-game items for playing it?
This is one of the things I am most excited about, and I’m pretty sure that you will be too. By completing certain accomplishments in Journeys, you can unlock 3 items for use when you purchase a copy of Dragon Age: Origins for the PC, Xbox 360 or PS3. By playing DAJ while signed in with your EA account, these items will automatically be added to your inventory in DA:O when you sign in with that same account. These entitlements work across all three platforms.
- Should we expect a lot of lore?
Yup. In DAJ you'll get your first taste of Orzammar and the Deep Roads, which you'll visit in DA:O, and learn about the Grey Wardens and their struggles against darkspawn and The Blight.
- Are you aware how awesome you and your team are?
*blushes* Thank you so much for the complement. We've been very lucky to work with a ridiculously talented crew on DAJ. Dan Stradwick, Adam Phillips and Andrew Sega are great indie game talents and working with them has been an incredible experience for the EA 2D team. We're very happy with the job Marcelo Poppi has done of taking Dan's story and fleshing out the characters and dialog. These are the people who deserve all the credit for DAJ. For those of us on the EA 2D side, it is not our job to be awesome, but to work with talented developers like these to help them reach their full awesomeness potential.
From willtraverse:
- Do we create our own characters, or recruit them through the story? If it's the latter, how many different characters are there to recruit?
You do both. Just like in Origins, you begin your adventure by creating a character, choosing between 3 races and 3 character classes. As the story progresses you will also recruit up to 6 companion characters. You can bring 2 companion characters with you as you fight the darkspawn in the Deep Roads. 3 of these companion characters can be recruited in Chapter 1.
- How is exploration handled?
Old school rpg style, ftw! You and your party will walk around Orzammar getting quests, talking to citizens and shopping. You’ll venture into the deep roads and encounter monster parties, some of which will attack you when you get close and some of which will only fight if you engage them. While exploring, you can pick up loot, potions and healing items. You’ll also find herbs, camping spots, and springs which you can use once to restore health, stamina and mana.
- Any idea when future chapters will be released?
I have an idea, but nothing I can share at the moment. Here at EA 2D it is our goal to be very fan centric. So, although we have chapters 2 & 3 mapped out, we plan on correcting our course to accommodate the wishes of our fans. Knowing that we plan on listening to your feedback with both ears, we can’t commit to firm dates because our plans are bound to change.
- Do the characters from chapter 1 carry over, or will future chapters feature a new cast?
By saving your game while signed into your EA account, you’ll be able to play with your character across all 3 chapters.
Thanks for the great questions. I’m happy to answer more questions in between producering, bug fixing and editing dialog here at the EA 2D headquarters.

Are these 3 items all unlockable in the first chapter or are some of them saved for the other two chapters?
Since there is a lot of lore to be had, is there a codex in the game?
Will there be impacting consequences of choice type of decisions to be made during the story?
What is your opinion on the difficulty of the battles to be encountered?
How is saving your progress during the game being handled?

Couple of Q's
1: Is there any multiplayer? same computer maybe or something else?
2: Are there specalisations and how are they recieved in this game?
3: Can we replay the same chapter with the same character?
4: What happens at death? loss of xp? restart level? respawning at closest save pointy?
Thanks that's all I wonder about now.

EA just hasn't done a splendid marketing job, and failing to release a flash game when it could actually create hype is just another example really.
I don't blame Bioware but really, a blog? Who cares?
