I'd counter that very rarely has so clear a love letter as Baldur's Gate 2 been sent to a developer's fans. I'm not sure what atrocities Bioware wrought upon your family, but as far as I'm concerned, they are Good People. I've enjoyed every Bioware game I've played, from BG1 to Jade Empire to Mass Effect, heck, even MDK2. There aren't many developers for whom I can say the same. Admittedly, I can tolerate some pain from a game if the makers' hearts were in the right place. I appreciated everything Troika set out to do, even as I realized regretfully how much trouble they seemed to have in seeing their ideas through. I continue to enjoy Obsidian's efforts, even as project after project seems to end up cancelled or rushed out the door. I played Daggerfall on the day of its release, and I calmly disputed the wild accusations and vitriolic screeds of Marcus Dracon as he lambasted 'Pathesda' for their transgressions. But even setting aside my more forgiving nature, Bioware has never done anything to deserve that kind of scorn. If anything, their games are less buggy than most. Sure, now you can tar them for their association with EA, but their games clearly aren't being rushed out the door with the same ruthless promptness as much of the rest of EA's catalog.
You want the games industry to be accountable for bugs and QA? Fine, that's a laudable goal. But if that's your aim, shouldn't you save most of your venom for the real offenders? Developers like Bioware, who make an effort to support their games and release them in good working order, should be recognized for their good work. You can't rely on the stick alone if you want change.

That was what I was wondering. Seems like there is a significant population that is really interested in the lore and story line.Until now I wasn't even aware that there are items and tbh I do not really care about those items. I just want to play the game to experience more of the DA lore.

Bioware's Insults, let's count them shall we?
1. Jade Empire, still a 40 dollar price tag, for no reason?
2. Mass Effect, a lack of dlc for after the game came out?
3. Dragon Age, Delayed
4. Dragon Age Journey's, now, Delayed
So what shining example of customer loyalty and work ethic are you pinning on them? Kotor? Neverwinter Nights 1?
Do they make fun games? Yes Do they make games that are playable? Yes. Did I love Kotor? Yes
Can they keep to a solid time schedule? Not if thier lives depended on it.

Hmm. That doesn't seem to match past events as I recall them. Certainly I remember Interplay/Black Isle publishing Baldur's Gate, but I also remember a great deal of excitement about the two doctors and their medical software company, this largely unknown entity called Bioware, getting the rights to make the new D&D game, Baldur's Gate. Still, as I get older, I don't necessarily get wiser, so I gamely checked the credits.Polemists05 wrote...
Firstly, and most importantly Bioware did not create Baldur's Gate, though they claim credit left and right, it was black isle who was the true creator, and some of those members have moved on to other projects. While a good group of Black Isle went onto Bioware they all did not, so Bioware does not= Black Isle. Also Black Isle did not have to answer to EA, Bioware does.
Bioware's Insults, let's count them shall we?
Baldur's Gate's Design team: Rob Bartel, Ross Gardner, Scott Greig, Matt Horvath, Lukas Kristjanson, Raymond Muzyka, James Ohlen (Lead)
Baldur's Gate 2's Design Team: Kevin Martens (co-Lead), James Ohlen (Director of Writing and Design- BioWare, co-Lead), David Gaider (a familiar name!), Brent Knowles, Lukas Kristjanson, John Winski. Additional design by: Rob Bartel, John Samuel Gallagher, Drew Karpyshyn
I seem to see a lot of the same names, particularly in the lead roles. I also see one of Bioware's founders. Are you certain you didn't confuse the publisher with the developer?
In any event, I've got nothing against Black Isle, although as I mentioned, they seem to have terrible luck in their current incarnation as Obsidian. I just believe in giving Bioware credit for some excellent and relatively bug-free games. I guess I don't see a game's relative lack of DLC as being that awful of a transgression. In fact, I just recently head quite a bit of complaining in another forum about DLC being a 'cash-in' compared to full-fledged expansions, so I guess developers are screwed either way.
Complaining about games being buggy on one hand and late on the other seems to be burning the same candle at both ends. I respect a developer that moves a game's release back in order to provide that additional bit of polish. Unfortunately, publishers aren't always willing to let that happen.

Oh and Polemists05, I live and work in the real world where the vast majority of products and projects fall well outside of their porjected timescales and people's heads don't roll. Construction companies can fall months behind and won't get sacked, movies can run months behind schedule and the director is kept on, I can be late for work and I'll still be working I just get my wages docked. Hell my hospital has had to delay my check up by 6 months and I'm with the same doctor so he didn't get fired.
Its only in a few time critical roles that heads may roll and thats generally in the accountancy and law and marketing fields which are generally very cut throat.
Honestly you are having a go at a company because they've not met an unofficial deadline for a product you do not have to pay for, do not have to pre-order a game for or do anything for really. They said October and they've still got 11 days to do it.

I don't give Bioware credit on Baldur's Gate 2 because I know the non Bioware games that Black Isle made seemed more in touch with BG 2 then anything Bioware did on thier own. Though that is purely my prespective.
As for deadlines, actually heads do roll. I work in Construction and recently several people were laid off for not meeting a deadline. As for movies, it's the entertainment industry. Same as games. They delay, and delay, and wonder why people arn't willing to pay 15$ more for the product?
Sure everyone gets behind schedule, once in a while, but every single time? That's a bit much.
It's real easy, don't come out and say things you can't stick to. Lionhead seemed to learn that, time Bioware did. Don't say Oct 20 if you can't hit it. Yes I am one of those people. I know there are the other side who would whine without a date.
You are all welcomed to love Bioware, and be fine with delays. Just as I am more then welcome to voice my displeasure at not having the browser game, and having to wait a extra month for the actual game.

I've never seen an official release date so as long as it released in October its on schedule. If you feel that Bioware has hacked you off then simply don't pay for it.....oh wait, its a free web based game that most producers and developers would never offer to their customers.

QFT
first off the only official announcement regarding dates is VERY fuzzing, hinting at "before the full game" not even stating if that means before 3rd of november or 6th of november, technicaly if it came out on 5th of november it still beat the release date in england and it never said it which release date it would be ahead of. as i said VERY fuzzy. its likely it will come out in October, just pointing out what has been said "officially".
Second, its FREE, that means 1. shut up and take what we are given "never look a gift horse in the mouth" and all that, if its late, if it sucks, so what? what exactly have you lost? and before you jump in saying "my precious time" i would like to remind you that you are the one wasting your "precious time" waiting on a free flash game.. gaming is a hobby, hobby pretty much means a waste of time, something you choose to do that is enjoyable, if you choose to wait for this and dont like it you have wasted very little time and absolutely 0 money and again it was YOUR choice to do so.
Basically people should grow up and stop whining

you do realise that the people making this arent the people making dragon age origins ryte? its made by the EA 2d team.. so who exactly are you aiming this at?

they never said october 20th i dont know where the rumour started but its more your fault for believing uncorfirmed rumours than anyone elses, especially when the bioware people have said several times that october 20th ISNT an official date.

I am a customer of Bioware games, I bought all there last games. So that's that.
Yes I realize it's EA 2d but my understanding was they had a bioware staff member actually making it and EA 2d just had the license, tho maybe I'm wrong.
lastly, they said it in a recent q & a on a forum. It was Oct 13 or 15 I can't recall beta, and Oct 20 release. Now they are trying to retract statements.
Finally, saying shut up, is not much of a argument and will only make me want to post more about the things I am upset about. Again people are welcome to opinions, and mine is I think the browser should be out by now. It's not. I'm upset. That's basically sums it up. No argument on this planet, short of EA 2d releasing the silly browser, will change that.

Not OK.
I would say the second biggest mess up they've done is delaying DA0 for a multiplatform release, and I'm someone who could only run it on my Xbox.
But really, bioware's track record is good overall & Baldur's Gate Trilogy was just as much a Bioware thing as Black Isle.
Anyway... none of that is why we are here. We aren't here to attack our fellow posters for their emotional outburst, nor are we here to have a tribunal judgment on Bioware.
We are here because we care, even if EA doesn't.

otherwise from what i remember it was from someone elses site that had all the info...like you need an EA account to get in the beta.....i made an EA account so far nothing to show for it....

He originally said it will have a week-long open beta on the 13th (need a free EA master account) and to be released on the 20th. The open beta comment was later edited out and it just said that it'll be released on the 20th. Yesterday, that was also edited out and there is now no longer any set date.
garin also posted in this thread yesterday:
I won't begrudge the developers of this flash game for not hitting the date. There's still the marketing aspect of this. I think by not doing the open beta, EA is trying to build up anticipation for the flash game. The Bioware blog releasing parts one by one is another example of that. Also, by adding unlockable items to be used in DAO, they wanted to add an incentive to play this flash game.garin wrote...
The release date was never official. I gave specific dates on my site when I really shouldn't have-- I'm sorry for any disappointment or confusion. Rest assured you'll be playing it soon, and well before the release of DA:O.
And thanks for answering my questions, FamousAspect.

I'm still a happy customer. I didn't expect DA:J to come out (neither did I expect the CharCreator), so I'm happy that there even IS something. I'm not happy, that there wasn't any open beta for the Toolset, but I understand the reasons and I can live with it. BUT... if DA:J gets released like 2 days before DA:O, it would be a bit "unlucky", so to speak.
And now I'm heading back to BG2. I still got many trolls to kill.
