I'm doing a "Dragon Age Week" on my blog as I go through the games, movies, books, comics, and so on my blog. It's slow going but I'm through the games now and will be working on the DLC and the rest net. However, Dragon Age 2 was a very controversial game for me (and a lot of other gamers) so I was curious if I could get anyone to look over the review.

I wonder if I covered everything when discussing it for new gamers.

Thanks!

I appreciate everyone's thoughts.

I read your review. It's well-written and I agree with most of it. There are points you could possibly have elaborated on, or at least I would have; mainly the romances. I'd explain how the progression pretty much sucked ...for all of them.

The time gaps really hurt Fenris and Isabela and even Merrill/Anders to an extent because it takes 3 years just to initiate a romance with them. Then Fenris and Isabela have another 3 years before you can actually be in a relationship. With Fenris there is 3 years without even discussing their romantic encounter to jumping into a relationship. "We're not exactly friends Fenris" followed a few seconds later by "Nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you." And with Isabela there's not real dialogue about her abandoning Hawke for 3 years before her Act 3 return. With Merrill/Anders after sex it's either "move in with me" or you dump them. Who does that?!

Even the mage Hawke/Fenris romance which was your favorite was a missed opportunity. There was barely any acknowledgment of Hawke being a mage in the romance and despite Fenris' lover being a mage his views on mages never bend... even a little. Max rivalry, loving mage, 6 years working with mages, etc. does nothing. He'll still insult mages and magic right in front of Hawke.

I wouldn't expect you to put the above wall of text in a review but the awkward romances phases should be noted unlike in DA:O where they seemed to flow so well.

Lastly, why do you keep referring to Hawke as "he?" For simplicity? I don't think you even mentioned in the review that you can choose the gender.

Still contend that the romance option for Aveline is one of the most immersive storylines I have experienced. While it break my wittle heart, it affected me far more than many other romantic overtures.

I liked your review. I agree with pretty much all your points. Aveline was my favourite companion along with Bethany and Varric. But I would say that despite the cast being one of the most colorful, they are also one of the most extremes I've ever seen, if not the most ridiculous because of their highly extreme views.

While not an great game in any way, I think DA2 manages to still hold it's ground. The Qunari arc was also my favourite, mostly because the Arishok makes for an great antagonist.

The review in my opinion is fair. The review points out the good and the bad.

Thanks everyone. DA2 is one of my favorite games of all times but I also had a lot of frustrations with it too. Addressing everything which bugged me without making it sound like it wasn't an awesome game was hard. I also felt like a lot of the problems with DA2 resulted from people not going into the game knowing what was going to happen and how it would affect decisions.

DA2 was panned pretty hard when it released but it's actually pretty fun and entertaining. The story DLC really helps a great deal and even has your Hawke mention stuff that's current to the Arc they're in, such as trying to talk to Fenris over him storming out on you after a single night.

The PC version is definitely the version to get, those little things added in by mods make a huge difference in quality and having the ability to use the console commands makes additional playthroughs much more fun as you have less things to worry about as you experience the game.

True, for instance, there's an equipment mod that actually lets you customize your party's equipment though it's not perfect depending on which mod that you pick.

If anyone is interested, i've also done up a review of Mark of the Assassin focusing on the controversial character of Tallis.

Hmm, I never even heard of Felicia Day until this DLC. I heard stuff like "Mark of the Assassin starring Felicia Day" and I thought "Who the **** cares?" Maybe my ignorance regarding her existence played a part in my Hawke always wanting to slit Tallis' throat at the DLC's end. That might also be because Hawke flung the murder knife into those qunari delegates in Offered and Lost and thus had no reason to help qunari. I'm glad your review points this out.

I also never liked the premise behind helping Tallis and potentially making a very powerful enemy out of a Duke of Orlais ...simply because she asks you to. Companions joke about this absurdity but that doesn't excuse it. I wish you mentioned this.

I don't remember a "Charlie" in Supernatural but my history with that show is unique. I watched it for the first 5 seasons and stopped because I realized they were throwing away artistic integrity for profit by continuing the show after it was meant to end (you can't top Lucifer as an antagonist) and wanted to remember the show with greatness; not as a series that kept going far longer than it should.

Charlie showed up in the last few seasons as one of a series of gimmicks to regain viewership.

(Despite Supernatural being too popular still to cancel too--it's like a zombie, really)

It led to a lot of concern of stunt casting as Charlie is basically a geek fantasy girlfriend.

But it did help!

You may have missed a better Boss fight than the conclusion: Malvernis. It is recommended that you meet this challenge once for the enjoyment.
