In this case?Hell yes they are. But I do find it hilarious that this "inequality" is only an issue when someone other that straight white males are catered to.

I suggest you take that up with the developers who either don't bother or make token efforts to be inclusive instead of attacking one of the few that is.

I also suggest if you truly have an issue with inequality in gaming be happy that for once women are getting preferable treatment by a game corporation.

You are assuming a lot about my ultimate motives. I complained when women didnt get an equal number of options in previous games as well. And when they got Jacob.

Im not even going to get into Bioware's "efforts". I'll just say, "From the people that brought you lady in a cat-suit, and the all new necromancer gently sucking on an undeads thumb while being groped..."

This is making me weary, so I'll conclude my argument with this. "Preferential Treatment" isn't going to fix anything. Its just going to make the problems last longer.

Untrue and unnecessary. Your talking to a microcosm of a minority.

Just for the record: I am straight and male in RL. I do not feel slighted in the least.

Ouch.

Those thousands of hours of work count for nothing, sorry.

Cass is probably my favourite companion really.

I knew you had good taste.

The BSN I participated in around ME3 suggests quite the opposite. Plenty of folks, of both genders, were upset at how things could have turned out for FemShep. Because what BioWare did there was absurd.

But the way to end inequality is not to swing back and forth and hope it all works out in aggregate. The way to end inequality, at least in this situation, is to just END it. Cold turkey.

It didn't affect my opinions at all, because I don't know what this has to do with anything involving a gender ratio. The presence or absence of these nicely little boxed and cogent dating sim experiences doesn't affect the sheer absence of females relative to males. Besides, the full force and weight of the characterization is what's going to matter, not that you get a little pornographic moment at the end of your quest.

Life can be full of romance, I'd rather not see it sequestered/fixated on as such to begin with, let alone take the mere presence or absence of male and female companions or mere presence of absence of "romantic sub-plots" as substantively mattering for any reason in particular. Er... well.. maybe I'm not even who your question is aimed at.

Ouch.

lol, sorry, not like that, I meant as in story and design. From my understanding, those are the ones who decide the LIs after the characters have been fleshed out, so unless they said that they intentionally give certain groups extra options, what he stated is not valid. It's like the incident where a guy who manage Ubisoft twitter made a statement in regard to Mario Kart. It's a personal opinion, and I feel like employee should be able to make comments without it being tied to the company or group they work for. I was defending both Bioware and you having a personal opinion but I guess it just comes out wrong. :P

Exactly. The amount of straight males making a fuss over this is inconsequential next to the amount that really don't give a damn.

Actually as far the internet goes it is true at least in my experience.

and FYI I was addressing the internet in general with that comment.

I've gone slightly the other side of not caring and actually think it's cool, because I often spend more time in RPGs playing as a female. My Mass Effect ratio was something like 2/1.

Hmm. I consider the Internet in general to be a giant litter box in need of cleaning. Unfortunately, the people most likely to take on the job would then turn around and regulate who could crap there, so I just avoid the more pungent corners.

My biggest problem is that there were so many extra dudes just lying around, and they couldn't write another m/m romance. Next game probably won't be like that, so I totally doubt we'll ever get another chance to get a bigger number that straight PCs. Honestly though, it does make me sad that they couldn't have made just one of the two extras bi, or added a bi romance to Blackwall (as ridiculous as that may seem). It does bother me.

But oh well I suppose.

It's basically like a Gotham City after hours, with no tangible boundaries. Wander that way, you're screwed, wander the other way, you're more screwed. Best just to stay where you are and pray.

Why I avoid social networking sites in a nutshell.

Although if all site owners would moderate comments that would help.

DAI has pretty diverse cast. Although majority of companions are men and human, they are still very different from each other. Different sexualities, different skin colours and races, different viewpoints and social standings. I think that's great and I thank BW for that.

I think advisors being 2 females and 1 male balances out gender ration since they seem to be very important characters as well. It'd be nice to have more female companions though, I wouldn't say no for them but I'm rather happy with how it is.

What I don't get is; why not just make it equal across the board?

If they added the last two romanceable characters later on, why not just make it one male one female and both swing both ways.

If they did that and no 'race-gating' every single demographic would be catered to and there wouldn't be a discussion about it.

You don't solve inequality of one demographic, by swinging to the opposite side and make it unequal that way.

There is no doubt in my mind personally that this has something to do with SJW and the hoopla in the last one or two years stirred up by people like Anita Sarkeesian about "females in gaming".

This feel like a response to "look good".

I am totally for the equality, but this is just going the wrong way. And NO it is not an excuse saying we have previous games catering to the male demographic. That is a little bit kindergarten logic when it comes to solving a problem.

It's like "but Mama, he/she did it too".

What makes it even more interesting is that first off, the gay population in itself is ~10% of the human population, so that in and of itself will never be equal.

Second the demographic of people buying these games sit around 85-90% male. Trust me this game will have the same number. It is NOT 50% women playing or buying this game.

This is also the reason why previous games had a more "male centric" choice, because it was catering to the actually largest demographic of BUYING customers.

So something is a little bit off when 90% of the buying demographic gets 2 choices over the 10% buying demographic getting 4 choices.

No matter how you flip the coin, the male straight, the male/female gay players got the lowest end of the deal with 2 choices each.

So the unequal part is the straight females demographic.

Don't forget when replying to this comment to bring up that I am a Straight WHITE male. Because that is the new fad going around. Never mind the bigotry behind it. Because as a straight white male I am responsible for all the atrocities ever committed in this world. O, and I have more privilege....

So in essence my comment has no validity at all. That is how it feel nowadays.

All this aside, I think this game is going to be awesome and luckily this game has more to it than just romancing. At least I hope so, because it seems like this game is almost heading into becoming a "romance simulator".

Equality is not and never should be about numbers. The only sexism is videogames is when a stupid developer says something stupid like that they can't implement women because it takes too many resources. And that has nothing to do with the gaming industry, because women have been part of games since always. Even in first person shooters you could pick a female avatar at least as far back as Unreal 1. So let's stop with this bullshit that somehow women are discriminated against in videogames, because it's only a few studios at best who actually don't offer a female perspective. Nobody owes you equal numbers, that would only be more discrimination and sexism.

Which is not to say I'm not a little disappointed in two more straight male love interests, but that is only because I would have loved to see some moral based love interests which seems a more interesting take to me.

If you wish to conspiracy theory something more than "These were stories that we wanted to tell" this isn't the appropriate forum for it.
