They may not care about the slaves, but I can easily just play up the whole "All Magisters are Blood Mages" angle. I could hire Fenris to explain it to them!

Add Fenris to the mix and your chance of success increases tenfold...  With Meredith dead and Lambert MIA, nobody in DA can give a more impassioned argument about the dangers of magic.  ;)

After reading Asunder I realized that making peace between mages and templars wouldn't be as easy as in situation with the geth. It's not only the templars and mages themselves, but also the Chantry and, more importantly, common people. It's not an easy task to make people less ignorant. It's like in middle ages when common folk prefer to work instead of learn how to read and try to understand anything that is not the chantry teachings on sunday mornings.

The situation is really dire in Thedas and it'll take decades, if not centuries, to resolve this conflict.

It's like Magneto and mutants.

Magneto doesn't believe humans will accept mutants because of his past.

However, he believes if they FEAR mutants then they might be able to survive and live in peace.

There's something to be said for that with mages in Thedas.

People misconstrue mercy and desire to be friends as weakness.

Yeah, after the mutants lost their powers (most of them at least), some bigots blew up a schoolbus full of ex-mutant children, killing 63 or so of them.

That was when Cyclops said, "You know what? **** this ****."

He then had the perpetrators killed.

Which a lot of fans, myself included, applauded.

It got worse from there.

Yeah, on the other hand, wariness of attack is easier to achieve than acceptance.

They hate and fear mages now.

But they don't fear them enough not to try to burn them at the stake.

Still, I learned to appreciate the Templars when I read about Evangeline protecting the mages from an angry mob.

Yeah, I had a nasty-nasty realization while playing with the Keep.

The game stored a LOT of information about likable templars I helped.

The kid who was helping his family, in particular.

Am I going to end up killing him?

Perhaps.

I have a serious issue, honestly.

MageJesus spared Ser Karas because he didn't want to kill unnecessarily.

However, Ser Karas is a scumbag.

One who might return.

So it's....tough, not to cheat even in the name of characterization.

Maker, no.

Don't get me wrong, I love Shepard. But I really don't want to solve a complex, multifacted problem that's been around for a lot longer than my protagonist has been alive with a minute on the dialogue wheel.

Yeah, I never contemplated not taking along Anders or Carver so I lucked out (after a fashion).

I assumed a Grey Warden would come in handy and I respected Carver as a warrior, even if I thought he was a whiner.

Leandra saying we might die down there ignored the fact we almost died all the time anyway.

I don't even give Shepard credit for that.

Legion and the Geth were the ones willing to offer all the planets in their territory back to the Quarians despite them destroying their Dyson Sphere.

i spared karras once... started over when i found out he's a implied rapist. Ill tolerate abomination, demons, arguable abuses of authority and extremists, but i draw the line at violationg others.

MageJesus may have spared him but I wish there'd been an option to track him down and put a bolt in his back after you found out.

I avoid metagaming whenever possible (sometimes I manipulate the approval system, but that's about it).  There is no indication that Karras is a rapist when you meet him, and so I make the decision based on how that version of Hawke views the situation.  This usually means he lives, but sometimes he doesn't... he'll be alive in the world state I import, however, so I guess that's the timeline that counts.
