I doubt I'll take Vivienne anywhere, unless it's forced on me. Why? Because she's too high and mighty for my liking.
Is there anyone you'll intentionally keep out of the party?

No, I'm gonna give em all a run out in the first playthrough. Don't know these new characters well enough yet to warrant automatic rejection.

Honestly I think caring about swearing is far less mature than not giving a crap. The only reason swearing even exists or is a problem is because people arbitrarily decide to give the words power by choosing to be offended by them. If people just stopped caring about swearing, stopped treating it as taboo, and allowing it to offend them, the problem would be solved.
The problem isn't swearing or the words used, it's the people arbitrarily deciding one word is taboo while the other is not and trying to enforce their opinion on others.

What you feel is appropriate may not be. In the military where swearing can be commonplace, if one were to use it while addressing a superior, it could be considered disrespectful, and aggravate proper communication. Seeing it used in a film like this lowers my immersion on the subject, as it unlikely to actually happen.
While some do not seem to care about respect for others beliefs or for common courtesy, there are rules and authorities still in place to help constrain such inappropriate behavior.
But don't you think sometimes swearing in the context that you described i.e. a superior being sworn at by people that he/she outranks can sometimes show that they are comfortable with each other as in their is a bond between soldiers in which they feel comfortable swearing around each other. Sure I can see hows its disrespectful in some scenarios, but I don't personally see it as unrealistic. I know a lot of British soldiers would likely swear in each others company.

So far Cassandra. If Blackwall comes of as an impertinent warden apologist, I'll leave him sitting at the castle as well. No other companion seem to displease me however.

If I'm playing a Rogue(which I will do first) then I won't use any other Rogues.
After that, it depends on if I like them.

Also, a lot of contemporary words have negative connotation, or are considered taboo, because they were the "peasant" language. Nobles used different words. When looking at the bigger historical picture, and considering how people have reasoned in times gone by, profanity is actually quite predictable.Honestly I think caring about swearing is far less mature than not giving a crap. Chances are, next century will see a whole lot of new words people will consider taboo.

If any of the characters have profanity laced dialogue like James Vega or Jack; currently not fond of what has been heard from Sera.
Sounded like straight-talking (Derbyshire dialect) elf-talk to me,
but I think it was said about Sera that she's a love or hate kind of elf...

And yet, here on BSN and other locations, civility has to be moderated because some choose to ignore it when dealing with others. This shows a lack of respect for other's opinions and beliefs; not a sign of maturity.

Predictable or not, is still stupid, and it's the people's arbitrary offense that's the real problem.
Being rude and derogatory towards someone can be done with or without swear words. The use of swear words themselves is only bad if used in a derogatory context, and even then, it's the context itself and not the word that's the real problem.
If someone slams their finger with a hammer and swears up a storm and someone decides to take offense at that, simply put, they are an asshat.

Being offended by a word is highly illogical.

Swearing is moderated because people quick to take offense complain and ****** like the dickens. Because so many people feel like swears is somehow hurting people. No one has ever died or been harmed by a swear word, only by people taking offense to said words.

Being offended by a word is highly illogical.
Without going into debate, it can go beyond what one feels or finds as offensive, but can violate what another believes. It is much the same as using derogatory terms in dealing with race, culture, etc. In a civil dialogue, it would appear to be improved without it.
All that said, this is a factor for me personally setting some characters aside. Moving now back to the topic.

Hmmm, before this slides into a discussion on profanity and locks the thread, if anyone would wish to take issue with Elhanan's choice of companion, that would be a rational discussion for us to have. Elhanan is not convinced by Sera's diction. I actually find it particularly endearing as I lived in the VA's part of the world for a time. Sera's use of language is very intuitive and unedited, unlike Josie and Vivienne who I suspect would exhibit high levels of linguistic control (and manipulation).
I'm not convinced however that a debate about the extent and acceptability of swearing it going to get us very far. Beyond having respect for Elhanan's position on it, whether I agree with it or not, I'll leave that semantic debate for another time and place ![]()

Of course... actually, I said something similar like a page ago. Just sharing trivia. I tend to look at history and human behaviour with as little judgement as possible. Bringing my own bias or stance, logical or not, into the equation is going to bring about a hasty conclusion and perhaps rob me of some insight.Predictable or not, is still stupid, and it's the people's arbitrary offense that's the real problem.
