So far, none of my 'canon' protagonists have been mages. I played rogue first in DAO, warrior first in DA2, and was going to go with mage first in DAI ... only then they brought back racial selection which meant DWARVES.

Always assuming DA4 some day exists and has race selection, my tentative plan for my 'canon' PC is female qunari mage. Unless I am waylaid by dwarves again, oh noes.

Yes, all of them. Warden and Hawke were blood mages and Inq was a lame mage.

Yes. It makes more sense for the mage rebellion if the greatest heroes of the age were both mages or pro mages themselves.

I have one of each class for Warden and Hawke, I plan on having it that way with the Inquisitor as well. They're all 'canon' for me. But the ones that I prefer to play are definitely mage :P My rogue warden and Hawke are dual wielding, while my Inquisitor is an archer. Not sure if a warrior Inquisitor is going to exist... because I don't really like melee in DA:I.

I would've made my Warden a mage, if it were possible in the canon game for Dalish mages. It's not, and I don't want my Warden to spend twenty years locked in the Circle, so, nope, Dalish elf all the way.

Hawke and the Inquisitor are both mages, naturally.

And will your inquisitor be one as well?  My warden and Hawke are both mages in my canon and I plan to make my inquisitor one as well.  It's just how I play through good games: first, blind playthrough as a rogue-type and last, 'canon' playthrough as mage-type.  Unfortunately, it means Thedas is going to see 3 famous and influential mages in a span of 20 years, all of whom mysteriously disappear when things wind down.

Warriors and rogues have this problem, but to a less pronounced extent since warrior are common and rogues can be DW or archer.  Am I the only one who does this?

My canon Hawke and Warden are both fem mages.

My first play of DAI was as a fem mage and I had planned on making that my canon. But it has switched to male SnS warrior, which was a HUGE surprise for me. It was primarily due to the Dorian romance, but I also really like the character that I made and really enjoy the class now that I've got over the hiccups of melee combat controls.

All three of my protagonists are (human) warriors ... though Hawke doesn't really count since I had no interest in DA2 and didn't play it, which means I don't see her as "my" character at all.

I play humans because these games tend to be written very strongly for humans, so rolling with that tends to be best for my immersion -- both in terms of feeling connected to the plot and in terms of not feeling as if the game is constantly ignoring an aspect of my character.

I play warriors, specifically tanky sword & board types, because I just love the notion of being the first in and the last out, the one who leads from the front and draws the line in the sand, the true vanguard against the enemy. Hiding in the back doesn't appeal to me, and neither does being squishy. It just feels wrong when someone else is getting hit instead of my own character. Sadly, melee is rather annoying in this game ...

It's also a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to the "ZOMG mages are so special and superior and can do anything better than anyone else!" vibes I sometimes get from the setting and the fandom. Bringing down yet another magical threat or mage-supremacist as a despised "mere mundane" can be very satisfying.

no warden was a dual sword wielding rogue, hawk was a archer rogue, becouse i didnt like the warrior armors on her body and for the first time i tried the mage  class in inquisitior for the lols since the world is against magic and like in origins i wanted to create the most conflict with the actual line of thinking (was against chantry in origins, so vindicated to see it paid off)

All mages, all the time. Except for that abomination Hawke, they'd all be female elves.

I have several sets of canons:

Female warrior has a female human noble warrior warden, a female warrior Hawke.

Male warrior dwarf, a male dwarf noble warden followed by a female warrior Hawke.

Female human mage, with a female warden mage and female mage Hawke.

My canon world includes a city elf rogue and a warrior Hawke.  Well, you can clearly see that in my signature.  It also has a very Templar supportive feel, since that Quisy, despite being a mage, will save the Templars.

I was thinking of making an "alternate universe" that is a lot more Mage supportive.  Would have a mage Warden, primarily since I need all those achievements.  Maybe a human mage, make the Amell line the most important thing pre-Inquisition.  Rogue Hawke though.  Got sick and tired of my rogues going "oh look, a trap," mere milliseconds before I step on it.

my Cannons are:

Warden: Dalish Archer

Hawke: Snarky DW Rogue

Inquisitor: Any race Mage - cannot imagine a non mage even trying to wields the anchor w/o totally freaking out so, has to be a mage Inquisitor.

No, class isn't as important to me as background.

DAO: Warden was a Dalish elf rogue

DA2: Hawke was a mage, though I still like to pretend this game never happened

DAI: Inquisitor was a Dalish elf mage

I'm an elf fan, and I like the opportunity to play as my OWN character, not some factory default (Hawke)

My Warden is a warrior who is sympathetic to the the Mages' cause...while my Hawke is a Mage who hates Blood Magic and felt that Mages should be controlled to a degree.

I did have one of each through multiple play troughs. I used them when I played my first mage in DA:I but it didn't seem to be mentioned other than the codex on the HoF and Hawke showing up.
