Despite the ire of many I've decided to put up an DC thread for fans to discuss live action feature films, animated films, the growing presence DC Entertainment is having on television, video games, and of course the source material...the comics themselves.

I thought I'd kick things off with a few updates on the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (starring: Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter) (directed by: Zack Snyder written by Academy Award Winner Chris Terrio, from a story by Snyder and David S. Goyer)

The film is scheduled to be released on March 26, 2016

It was announced on June last year that Warner Bros. had tapped both Zack Snyder and David Goyer to return for the sequel to 2013's Man of Steel. It was later revealed at Comic Con the following month that the sequel would feature both Superman and Batman together for the first time on the big screen. It has also been revealed that Diana Prince also known as Wonder Woman will be featured as a supporting character.

Principal photography has begun in Detroit, Michigan on May 19, 2014 with the additional filming locations of Morocco and the South Pacific scheduled.

More updates on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Shazam! starring Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, Arrow, the Flash, Constantine, Gotham, and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis coming soon or as they develop.

That's simple. DC Comics does not make movies. Unlike Marvel, DC Comics does not have direct creative control over their movies. Their sister company at WB does that. Marvel, now owned by Disney, still retains creative control over their movies. That's a big positive for them. Marvel makes better movies. DC makes better comics, television shows, animated shows, and video games. I wish Marvel made better video games. But I digress.

I'm looking forward to The Rock as Black Adam.

Dawn of Justice.

Meh.

I did watch Assault on Arkham the other night though. That was ok. Certainly wouldn't consider it a Batman movie by any means.

It's a Suicide Squad movie through and through.

Love a lot of the older comics and like a few newer ones.

Also love the animations such as the DC Animated Universe and The Brave and the Bold.

The live action shows are here and there. Adam West Batman is great but then you have crap like Smallville and Birds of Prey. Arrow is okay tho. Hope Flash and the rest of the shows will be good and they look like they will.

Never really like the movies but I have respect for the first two Superman movies. The others not so much. And Returns was awful.

Speaking of awful, I really hate Man of Steel. It didn't get the character at all.

And seeing as Dawn of Justice seems to be going the same way with him, and now Wonder Woman too. I am not gonna see it.

As for Shazam, I will wait and see what they do with it.

I didn't mind MoS.

Since there were parts where a good Superman movie was trying to claw its way through, but alas. Never materialized.

Also I love how Godzilla had less overall destruction in it than MoS. :P

I am looking forward to BvS, but after TDKR and MoS my expectations will be low. Television on the other hand seems to be where DC is doing well. I loved last season of Arrow and I hope Flash will be just as good.

I'm not looking forward to Gotham...that just screams that it will be bad for some reason.

Not to mention they're going to be covering the "origins" of many of Batman's villains, which will undoubtedly make them far older than Batman if they're not children.

This is what really makes me laugh

Spoiler

Goji gets the Savior of our city title and people applauding him in the movie, and the Grand music.

Superman doesn't.

-snip-

I mean you've got the right to your opinion, but I fail to see how Marlon Brando's phoned in performance of Jor-El is better than Russel Crowe's. Not to mention that sets and vfx of Superman: The Movie holds up pretty badly. Don't get me wrong; it has a special place like the George Reeves reruns for introducing me to these characters when I was in diapers. But to say it's objectively better seems a lot like someone forgot to take off their rose-tinted glasses.

In my opinion MoS' only failures as a film were story structure, pacing, and redundant exposition. They understood the character of Kal-El/Clark Kent (Not Superman... Not yet) perfectly. If the detractors read any of Superman's origins stories from the comics, the source material (Birthright, Earth One, Man of Steel), they'd know that.

And I'm done defending MoS. This thread isn't for that. It's for everything DC.

Here have an Arrow and a Flash

Notice all the  easter eggs in that poster like Amertek, Kord Industries, and Grodd Lives on the sidewalk.

Why? Seems like the right place if the movie's set in Gotham City.

It's a batman show without batman... I am not too sure of this show either. What really got me disappointed was when I read they're also bringing in the Joker. It's starting to sound more like bad fan-fiction then batman canon. I wish Paul Dini was attached to this project. At least you can trust he knows how to make a good batman show. The current writer has Rome and Mentalist under his belt. I didn't like either series.

If I hadn't seen Rise of the Planet of The Apes I would've said they were crazy for even mentioning Grodd. I wonder if he can be done on a TV budget...

Yeah. You have a point DarkKnight. The only problems with Man 'o Steel were the: acting, story, exposition, FX overload, finale & pacing. Otherwise it was excellent.

Firstly, straight up Joker? or is he still the Red Hood?

Because one works given the time frame. The other doesn't.

Anyway, Gotham kinda sounds like a show I want to see. But I've always wanted a straight forward Police Procedure show in a Comic Book Universe. Because it'd be the funniest thing ever. Gotham looks a little too serious for the type of show I'd want.

It's a cool idea, but I am worried about its execution.

It was an off-hand comment. No details other then it might be addressed somewhere down the line.  I hope they scrap it. Showing Joker or linking him to Red Hood would kill the mystery behind the Jokers' origin.

Reports are pointing to a potential Supergirl TV series. I think they could do some incredibly interesting things with it. It's about time we got a superhero show with a female lead. Something that's been sorely missing since Lynda Carter, and in the absence of the Amazon princess, why not Kara?

What worries me is when they mentioned the origin of Jonathon Crane/Jonathan Crane (yes I am slightly biased at this part).

Are they going to show his childhood or are they going to show him as having a PH.D in psychology/biochemistry or as an MD. in psychiatry (it seems to alter depending on the writer)? I'm hoping for childhood otherwise that would mean he would be close to 50 by the time Batman shows up, and even then how interesting is watching an excessively skinny/tall kid getting bullied going to be?

Joker is also worrisome because by all accounts he did not exist as "The Joker" until Batman officially showed up. The "Red Hood" persona is slightly understandable, but then he'd also be close to 50 if that's what he happens to be doing.

They've also mentioned Catwoman/Selina Kyle, and I really find it hard to believe that a 9 year old girl (depending on how old Bruce is) would be an interesting thief.

The ages just wouldn't match up to be somewhat even with Bruce Wayne's by the time he becomes Batman. Congratulations Batman, by the time you're 35 you're beating up 60+ year old criminals! That's something to be proud of...

Penguin? Meh...who really finds him to be an interesting villain?

Yeah I read about this. I wonder why CW passed on it? I also wonder if it's connected to the MoS prequel comic.

Edit: I just read the updated article. Greg Berlanti is involved so this might actually get the green light.

If they were looking for a city that looks like a war zone that isn't actually a war zone, Detroit is the perfect place to film. Maybe we'll see all the burnt out crack houses in the background of the fight scenes.

So... JL: Throne of Atlantis. Anyone planning on picking this up? Aquaman's probably had the best New52 run so I'm checking for this.
