I think that would be an interesting addition to the game.

If so, I'd even try to romance him with a female character. That would be interesting.

He's a Templar, isn't he?

I think that would get kind of annoying since he can never be replaced... hopefully it won't be brought up too much.

Um, I dunno but... I lurk in the Cullen thread from time to time and it doesn't look like his fans are really fond of the idea.

I was kind of wondering this, will we see negative effects of lyrium withdrawal? Although in fairness I doubt that the Inquisition can't acquire lyrium.

I'd imagine he's got the same level of addiction as any templar his age and with his time spent in duty. Although I doubt he's taking lyrium anymore. You can be physically addicted to something and still resist taking it. He's probably off it for now since I doubt the chantry is doing a lyrium trade at all right now.

The PC can become a Templar, so I doubt there won't be any lyrium.
And without taking lyrium, his body would destroy itself just to get the smallest bits of it. He's probably still taking it.

lol... I was just going to mention that. Addict or no, lyrium isn't hard to come by... heck, the Cadash Inquisitor smuggles the stuff.

Well the short answer is yes he is. All Templars are. But as Ruairi46 said I don't think getting lyrium will be all that hard. You have Seekers, mages, Hell the Inquisitor if a Dwarf is with the Carta. Lyrium is their whole deal.

It would add an interesting twist to his character.....since the only other times we've seen a Templar go without lyrium he turned into a muddled mess.....
Now if the lyrium potions in my inventory go randomly missing....Cullen and I will have to have a come to the Maker moment.

if he is addicted to it, they might use his quest arc as a way to either further his addiction

The only reason I could find him interesting.

If he is addicted to it, they might use his quest arc as a way to either further his addiction or you help him with his addiction and break it. And chances are, it might be a process.
That means you have have to take him to LAA meetings and be his sponsor.

He's a high level Templar Knight Captain, so yes, he is probably very addicted to the stuff.

<.< No judges Alistair this harshly for lying to the PC the entire game and getting high behind your back.
Cullen will probably be fairly straight forward about it.

Clocks ticking though.
Eventually he'll be that drooling templar in Denerim.

Even if he is an addict, I imagine it's well controlled, he has lived with this need for many years, he'll know when he needs topping up lol. I don't think we would see him mad with withdrawl (unless he is the torture victim in Lelianas place......).
If any of you guys play a Templar build, how do you roleplay your need/addiction?

If he doesn't, his body will attack itself and he'll go insane. You can't just stop using lyrium after using it for so long.

So will my canon Hawke... ![]()

I never considered it in the past, mainly because I took Alistair at his word and assumed it wasn't needed. I believe that was changed at some point, possibly in World of Thedas? Whatever the case, I didn't learn about it until long after I'd put down DA2... and since non-mages can't even use lyrium potions, I don't know that there's anything I could do to simulate addiction... buy a few extra now and then, but destroy them perhaps?
If this is an issue in DA:I, I think I'll have my warriors become Champions rather than Templars, even if they support the Chantry. I will do at least one human Templar, but for the most part I think I'll avoid the spec now that I have to consider the present and future complications...

If he is a tortured victim in place of Leliana...then I guess, if he can't break the addiction, we have to keep him supplied to get him back to normal.
