Yeah, I do love the shattering. Taiyama and Wynne often team up in that regard--Taiyama will freeze and enemy and Wynne will stonefist 'em.

Ah.What I do with cunning is naturally raise it to the point where I can afford the first three levels of coercion. Then I rely on the bonuses you get at the Circle Tower to raise it further and don't bother with it any more than that. I'm still able to make any persuasion check I want and I get a good deal of Cunning options in dialogue as well.

As I don't always bring Wynne with me, I made sure Legam knew StoneFist on his own.

I put extra points to be safe, even after taking the last level of coercion. I've found even with all four levels, your actual stats still play a part in opening up extra dialogue - usually resulting in the Warden being more perceptive than they would be otherwise. I find that fun. Besides, after five full playthroughs, sometimes I don't feel like seeking out the extra fonts in the Fade, despite knowing where they are. I don't despise the Fade section of the Circle as some do, but it does feel at least a little tedious after a few go rounds.

You know, I probably should have one of my Wardens concentrate a lot more on cunning just to see what happens.

You should. Could be fun. I know one of the differences is that when Wynne tells you the Grey Wardens story, you can foretell that the story's symbolic rather than literal long before she reveals that herself. Or at the Tower of Ishal (sp?) in Ostagar, if your Cunning is high enough, you realize that somebody had to have let the darkspawn take the tower, or knew that they were coming. Stronger evidence that the battle was set up, to some extent.

Great instalment in your story.
As for criticism, well DalishRanger covered pretty much all I had to say (curse you time difference between USA and Europe!! Image IPB), regarding the "gaming" word, I think you should not use area of effect spell in your introduction story (sorry for saying that only now.), it doesn't feel natural.

You have a very readable style, not heavy at all, and I find that your scenes are very "visual" a bit like movie shots and that make your stories very fluid.

PS : thanks for the link to the Art of Manliness,  very intersting reading,

EDIT : By the way "Alistair's Harem" gave me an idea for a short funny (I hope) thing, I'll create a new thread once it's done)

Thank you very much, Olwaye. I'lll have to take another look at "The Calling" Later when I have more time. I may change the wording in that sentence.

And thank you for the compliment, sir. Truly, it makes me feel quite a bit better about my writing. I normally first imagine a scene in my head and then try to convey that scene in words. I've noticed that it's taken me less words than perhaps others use to write the same scene and for a while I was wondering if it might be a fault on my part. Your compliment does a lot to alleviate that fear.

No problem. And be sure to let me know when you make the thread, I'll want to read it.

Well, if I recall correctly from the last time I was in Paris, you're about... Six or so hours ahead of my time zone? So
technically, you should see these things and post long before I do. Not my fault you're slacking. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

Good descriptions always help, but just because someone uses more words doing so doesn't automatically make it better. And there is such a thing as too much description, I think. It's one reason I hated The Scarlet Letter. The entire first chapter's about a door. A door. Really, Hawthorne? Really?!

All right, I'm having trouble with the Character Creator thing. I logged in in the character creator, made Taiyama, clicked "upload info" multiple times, saved multiple times, clicked done, and there's still nothing on my online profile here. I DO have some page that is apparently my Dragon Age: Origins PC profile but when I go there there's nothing on it. I've waited for about one and a half hours now and I've no idea what's wrong. Can someone help a guy out?

Edit: Pfft, nevermind. AS SOON AS I CLICK SUBMIT FOR THIS POST, it comes up. Juuust my luck.

xD I was about to tell you to wait a while anyway; my characters all took several hours to upload. They should really change that "should be up in an hour" thing, because it's almost never been true. "Within a day" is more accurate.

Edit: And there's Taiyama! Whoo! Much better! :D

Man, I'm glad to be rid of that default avatar. It was beginning to annoy. The only reason I kept it was precisely because hardly anyone used it.

Something about this Taiyama seems a tad off but I just can't figure out what. Ah, well. He's close enough--good thing I don't stray far from presets--and if I figure it out I can always go back and change him. Thanks for the comments, guys and gals.

You could always try to change the zoom/angle/expression of the portrait and see if that helps, before changing any actual features.

Well, guess what, ladies and gentlemen?

It's gonna snow. And here in Alabama, that means a nigh public disaster, complete with food hoarding, lost power, car crashes, and all that fun stuff. Even if it's only a few inches. Yeah, we Southerners are wussies when it comes to snow. We just can't cope.

But it DOES mean that I don't have classes tomorrow or the Macroeconomics test I was meant to take. This leaves me with a lot more free time than I thought I had, so let's get another update typed out before the snow starts and the power loss hits.

It's going to snow here in Georgia too. Being from New York originally, I would laugh at the Southern cold wussiness, but... To be fair, it practically NEVER snows unless you're in the mountains. For me it means being EXTRA careful when driving my mom to her post-op doctor's check-up tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed...

But whoo for more Taiyama updates! :D

Yeah, plus we just don't have the infrastructure to deal with snow. I mean, up north they have snow plows, electrical lines protected from snow, etc. We don't have any of that down here. Good luck with driving your mother, too. I can empathize considering my own mother has been in and out of the hospital a lot lately.

Exactly. And it's not worth the money investing in that equipment when you wouldn't be using it often. There are advantages to everything shutting down on a Southern snow day though - like you getting out of class. :D

Yeah, she just had her right knee replaced a few weeks back; had her left one replaced last year. While she's recovering, my brother and I have to take turns doing a morning/afternoon shift helping her get around the house. It's not so bad, since she can do most things on her own at this point (and I love my mama. :P). The only downside is having to get up at 6:00 a.m. when I'm usually a night owl.

Speaking of which... I have morning shift, which means I'm supposed to be getting up in a few hours. Ha... Better go to bed.

Derp, changed my mind for now. I'll definitely work on it tomorrow and post it next I have internet access, but right now I need sleep. Besides, it'll give me time to really think through how I'm gonna do this. I have a basic idea but that's pretty much it and my best ideas, funnily enough, come when I'm in bed trying to go to sleep.

'Tis cool, sleep is important. Just got up myself. Woke up with a migraine... Joy. XP

Ah, wonderful. If it helps, I woke up with a bug that's been going around my campus for a while, so that's AWESOME.

Anyway, off to try and write something. I doubt it'll be too good, but here goes.

I think now it might've been caffeine withdrawal. I usually have coffee in the mornings, but I skipped it the past few days because during that oh-so-wonderful "time of the month," caffeine does a number on my system. XP Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Oh well, it's passed now.

Good luck! Gotta make a few business phone calls, and then on with the sketching!

EDIT: Mostly done with the picture. Will post in my fan art thread when finished.

I saw it on your thread first but I want to thank you again for doing that. As I said, it's an honor. I didn't really think anyone would take me up on my idea.

All right, sorry for not, you know, posting anything. I haven't even started on the latest chapter because I've been too busy either marveling at the snow or reading "The Stolen Throne". Maric is awesome. Also, I built my first snowman ever and took pictures of it!

But enough of my lollygagging, I need to actually do something productive today. TO MICROSOFT WORD!

Ha ha, no worries! I'm tempted to take photos of our yard, it's so covered... I've seen snow plenty of times, just not here in years.

All right, I had huge writer's block because I've been struggling with how to continue with "A Bond Forged in Fire". So after a while of staring at the screen I gave up and went off to read "The Stolen Throne" some more. Funnily enough, the book gave me the idea I needed to continue. I won't make any promises of updates soon but I DO know where I'm going with this now, so that's good.
