Part 3: The Nature of Good and Evil
Author’s note: I’m actually rather proud of this chapter. I feel pretty good. What do you guys think?
You should be, it was wonderful!
This is as far as I'm going to get tonight, if I don't write some more Aedan I think Sandi will fly up from Texas and lock me in a closet with my laptop...
But I'll be back for more!
(btw, I love how you switch points of view, it's really interesting to get into different heads. I'm not at all confident enough to write Leliana... I just love your Leli... )

I wasn't at first either, but I got more and more confident as I continued with Seasons, and I'm glad I wrote her more. You should do it in progressively increasing bits (when appropriate for your stories, of course), Sisi. I think you may surprise yourself. You certainly do a good job with Alistair, and what we saw of Morrigan in Hero was very well done, I think. I believe you could pull more Leliana off if you tried.

Perhaps I'll try a one-shot with Leli, something from Hero, or even DA, from her point of view.

Aw, now YOU'RE making ME blush. Thank you very much, that means a lot.
And I'm up to "The Orlesian Wardens" in Hero of Ferelden and I adore it so far. You have a knack for describing your surroundings in a poetic fashion that I lack and have been trying to work on (dialogue is my strong suit, not description). I agree that you'd pull off Leliana masterfully if you tried.

And you said I was poetic! Whee! Um, thank you. That's so nice! I'm glad you like my story! Okay, enough exclamation points, it's time for some sleep! (just one more there...)
We can all read more and blush more tomorrow (I really want to put another exclamation point in there...)

@Sisimka: You should totally do a Leli one-shot at some point.

Heh, thanks. Though you're lucky you read it after I cleaned it up. The first product was written when I was sleepy and I've learned since starting this topic that Sleepy Chad = Horrible Writer Chad.

Though if Aedan breaks Leliana's heart somehow with Delilah, I'll have Taiyama go Beyond the Impossible and break into another world just so he can kick Aedan's butt

"A mage does not generate power himself, but channels the natural forces of the Fade, converts it, and unleashes it for his purposes. In a sense, that is source of the phenomenal willpower people tell me I have. So many people rely on me whether they know it or not. All of the crushed dreams of those who are lost to the Blight and the civil war...all of the hopes of those still alive... All of the wishes, what-ifs, and could-have-beens of all those--human, elven, dwarf, qunari, golem--who died fighting against the Blight and for the future throughout history. I take it all in... I take all their suffering and hope, and I turn it into power. I fight because of them and I must press forward no matter what for their sakes: so the living can live, and so the dead did not die in vain. That is why I'll never give up no matter what the odds are!"

“Come ooooooon, Taiyama! Just let me have a little taste! Just one taste! Pleeeeeeease?”
Taiyama sighed and held out the hand that wasn’t stirring the stew to intercept Alistair, who was trying desperately to get to the pot. Taiyama couldn’t really blame him. This was Taiyama’s first try at cooking in his life but he had actually done a pretty good job, apparently. The stew looked absolutely delicious and the smell made the mouth water of every person in the camp. Maybe he was pretty good at this cooking thing?
Up until now, Morrigan had mostly cooked—Alistair had cooked once and they all regretted it soon after—but as they were leaving Lothering, two new companions by the names of Leliana and Sten in tow, Morrigan unilaterally decided that it was Taiyama who was cooking tonight. He had protested on the grounds of his lack of knowledge but acquiesced eventually when faced with the option of either forcing the new arrivals to cook or enduring Alistair’s cooking again.
“I’m sorry, Alistair, but it’s not done yet,” Taiyama said, beginning to sound peeved. “Now go sit down and wait with the others. It’ll only be a few more minutes.”
Alistair grumbled and stalked off to sit and wait, his stomach growling considerably. True to his word, however, Taiyama declared that the stew was finally finished. Everyone gathered around the fire eagerly, bowls in hand, and Taiyama began filling them all—saving Alistair for last in revenge for bothering him so much.
“I must say, I’m…impressed,” Morrigan stated as Taiyama filled her bowl. “Hopefully I won’t have to cook as much around here anymore.”
“I haven’t seen food this delicious-looking since I came here to Ferelden,” Leliana said, admiring the food for a moment before eating it.
“Um…th-thanks…” Taiyama muttered, blushing slightly at the praise as he filled his own bowl and sat down.
Leliana and Alistair were the first two to eat. They were immediately assaulted with a taste they had never experienced before in their lives…and not in the good way. It was a bizarre mixture of sour, bitter, and some other tastes they couldn’t place a name on with a texture like mixed concrete thrown in for good measure. To make things worse, the taste stuck to your tongue, prolonging the agony. Leliana and Alistair both spit out their mouthfuls at the same time, spilling their bowls in the process.
Alistair shot up and began running off towards the nearest stream, screaming “WATER! I NEED WATEEEEEER!” much to Taiyama’s surprise.
Leliana coughed and hacked, then took a piece of bread she had stored in her own pack and tried to use that to overcome the horrible taste that stuck to her mouth—it didn’t help. “Maker, how can something so delicious-looking taste so BAD?!”
Morrigan, whose spoon was mere centimeters away from her lips, quickly set the spoon back down and the bowl aside upon seeing their reactions.
Hunter immediately perked up when he heard Leliana drop her bowl and had rushed over to begin devouring what had been spilt. Upon tasting it, he began hacking and coughing not unlike the Chantry girl herself and began furiously licking his own butt to get the taste out. That didn’t help either.
“I-I’m sorry!” Taiyama exclaimed. “Is it really so bad…? It looks so tasty though…” Taiyama took one large spoonful and ate it, chewed it thoughtfully for a moment, then spit out it out much like his comrades. “AAAAAGHHH! YOU’RE RIGHT! YOU’RE RIIIIGHT!”
Taiyama immediately reached for his waterskin and began guzzling the water inside, too late to hear Alistair yell “WATER DOESN’T HELP!” from the nearby stream.
They all froze in what they were doing, however, when Sten walked calmly forward to the pot, an empty bowl in his hand. He helped himself to another bowlful of the putrid concoction and sat back down on a nearby stump without a word.
He had finished the entire pot himself by the time they retired for the night.
Author's Notes: Hehe, just a silly idea I got here that I couldn't resist typing out. It's mentioned in the tvtropes analysis post that Taiyama is a Lethal Chef but I recently got the idea that his food would actually look and smell very very good but taste horrible. Plus, Sten seems to really like it. Maybe Taiyama isn't so much a lethal chef as he is someone who cooks like a Qunari?
