This horse has been beaten enough let the poor thing alone. When and if I meet Alistair I DON'T want him to make a swooping reference.
My feedback & Suggestion for DAI, no swooping is bad jokes.

I'm not even sure how the original line was supposed to form a joke.

out of the 100,000s of words in both games, you have a problem with them saying swooping is bad 3 times out of 2 games? thats like when the nintendo miiverse went crazy over people saying the word moo.

What about a swooping is good joke? Someone swoops in to save us at the last minute.

what if Morrigan and Alistair meet in the game and it involves Morrigan swooping in as a bird and Alistair is like "I thought we were done with the swooping?"

I love Alistair but I facepalmed in DA2. It wasn't just the words, but also the delivery. "Because swooping... (wait for it!) ... is bad." If a joke must be reused I'd rather hear about princess stabbity.
A joke loses its punch the more it is repeated. I love Garrus too, but the calibration jokes were way too much in ME3. We got just the right amount of elevator jokes, though. Not the same line repeated, just a single humorous reference per game to the ME1 elevator scenes.

But, swooping *is* bad. Or at least, jokes about it are good.
If you don't get it... you don't get it. Your loss. ![]()

Totally agree. Come up with new clever or funny lines, don't fall back on rehashing a previous line that's become an internet thing and making it into a cheesy catchphrase.

I don't think she ever said that in MotA.

I will never play DAI because I am profoundly humorless, hate the progressive agenda, am confused by tactical combat, hate controlling more than one character, hate dating Sims, and I will never support a corporate overlord. ![]()
I cannot say that with a straight face, as I am a fan-boi and pre-ordered months ago. ![]()

Remember when ME3 used the "big stupid jellyfish" from ME1? It sounded sooo pretending. I thought it was awful.
Yes, repeating swooping is bad.

Who knows, it might actually come out funny with a bit of good timing. During the peace conference, for example.
"Swooping is..." *BOOM!*

I tend to prefer references that are a little 4th wall ish and relate to past games within a company.
Such as Isabella's line in Alistair's cameo;
Alistair: Isabela. right? You look... different.
Isabela: Don't we all?
As for Swooping is Bad, one liners should only you know... be heard once.
As soon as there is a reference in game about Cass stabbing books, I'm going to do the biggest, most cringe filled eye roll of the century. I really can't stand over used jokes. (this has only appeared in the fandom so far, no idea why it bothers me so)

So Varric the king of humour both bad or otherwise, should not make a joke involving something that happened in his life involving a character who is also involved in the story, because some fans were making such jokes in the real world? I'd be completely surprised if there's no mention of something that crazy by Varric at least once, and being upset if such a reference is made only once, seems a bit silly, as unlike random swooping jokes, such a joke is not only completely reasonable, but in character, and references real game events.
Just my opinion though. Seems silly.
But you already said you have no idea why it bothers you. I just... felt the need to point out how silly this particular example seemed. ![]()

I don't know . I never saw it as a joke but more like a 'Look who is here' a way to announce one precense (especially since Alistair look changed soo much in DA2) . I mean , Flemeth used the same line as Morrigan 'my my , look what we have here' . Yet no complain on that side ?
I think it could be worse....you could have that guy in BG1 that kept stopping you asking questions on and on..or until you kill him
Or have that stupid sword that keep insulting ya !

Hehehe makes me think of Slasher, an intelligent magic sword I used to give to players in my D&D games when I was younger. I love magic weapons with attitude it's so much fun seeing how much a PC will put up with for a bad ass weapon.
I haven't done that in a long long time... >.>
