Ok so I HATE swords with the fire effect or Ice or whatever. I think it looks silly. Will we be able to give our weapons good upgrades and all that without some dumb visual affect on the weapons? Or to have the best available gear will we need it?
So do we HAVE to have faming swords?

In DA2, there were other weapon runes besides the elemental ones: physical damage, attack speed. I would presume that it's the same here. I think I remember Laidlaw saying something about having upgrades that do extra damage against certain enemy types.

you realize those elemental buffs to your weapons is optional right? there's always been the option to put runes in your weapons if you don't want elemental things. particularly in dragonage 2 when they had so many different types of runes.

I saw somewhere that a weapon could be given a % chance to drain health. Given the limitations on healing, I'd say this will be one of the most powerful enchantments in the game. Elemental damage can easily be nullified by enemies, so I would not worry about those weapons being too important.

Give it a non-fire or non-ice upgrade I guess?

Didn't one of the devs mention different runes, including vampiric ones? It was with the human female 2H warrior. I wonder what type of visual effect the vampiric ones have. I'd imagine they drain health or stamina from the enemy. Pretty cool for a reaver or assassin. The effect did seem to be limited to combat, not everglowing beacons.

I like the effects and they are based upon D&D spell like abilities as well. They had visual for quite a few but doesn't get referenced much on tabletop less say something about it. If don't like them, don't use them. I prefer them.

The effects are cool and they remind a player what their weapon does. I want my weapon to look powerful and glowy. I also want it to sing, but I'll settle for glowy.

Customize a sword to your liking without having the fire/ice/lightning runes. For me, I like the look of the sword with the flames

I just wish I could have flaming armor. Imagine a qunari Inquisitor with satanic horns a set of black plate armor and a giant cruel looking sword. Now imagine all of it with flames.

"Imagine this, but all over." "Grow up..." Pretty sure would get where I pulled that from with me cutting the name off on purpose. ![]()
That would be interesting, curious if those weapons upgrade as we go from DLC or not. Would be nice if they can, doubt they will.

I'm pretty sure both previous games had non elemental runes as well as runes being completely optional. ![]()

Well, if we can customize it seems very possible we could recreate those weapons at higher power if it isn't possible to level them up.

No. Just don't put fire runes into your sword and then you won't have a flaming sword.
So far every DA game had runes that did not have any visible effect why should it be different in Inquisistion?

I can live with the effects if i have too, I am just hoping that they "turn off" when the weapon is sheathed, whoops no sheaths in DA world, I mean put away on your back.
And if not then at least do not emit light that oddly light up your character.

I have to agree with this, they should at last make it so it will be "turn off" when the weapon is sheathed.

I'm pretty sure something like this was already implemented in DA2 as well. My rogue's weapons always have lightning runes attached, but you didn't actually see the effect until it was actually being used on enemies, unlike DA:O, where it looked like something in a mad scientist's lab even when sheathed.

I just realize OP meant "flaming swords" Faming was the only reason I checked out this thread, as I didn't know it was a trend.

Based on the videos we've seen, the fire effects do indeed turn off when the weapons are put away in DAI, as they do in DA2. .I can live with the effects if i have too, I am just hoping that they "turn off" when the weapon is
