I'm tired of watching 'everyone is piece a sh*t - dark/grey setting' kind of series. At least put some good people in it and make them victorious, so I can be motivated to watch.
Try Chuck, Middleman, Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls.

Season 1 wrapped up in May and season 2 starts in September. Some storylines are wrapped up too quickly, quite a few characters I liked were killed off already, one of the lead actresses on the show has dropped to guest star status, and its a vampire show on network tv, but the plot and characters are interesting enough - there are always new dynamics, relationships, and character development, most of the episodes are fast paced and entertaining, and it has a good soundtrack - a lot of the music I've been listening to recently came from this show. Main themes of the show are familial love (often in conflict and conjunction with platonic relationships and romantic love), moral redemption, ambition, betrayal on all levels, mercy, trust, sudden reversals of fortune for better and worse, and new beginnings.

- Realistic Characterization that delves more into the pragmatic and dark.
- Kevin Spacey's Acting ability.
- Interweaving Plotlines, Plenty of Twists/Surprises.
- Some of the best writing, Period.
- It's Shakespeare meets Lord of the Rings. Nerd Value Intensifies.
- Instead of a focus on So-And-So villain(s), the main story focuses on various Houses and factions warring for power. And naturally there's a strong focus on the characters themselves who stand out more than the average archetype.
- Extraordinary volume of lore. That's 5,000+ pages of content, for those with the books.
- "Sexposition" Scenes.
- Unique Setting influenced by Inuit and Eastern Stylizations.
- Good hybrid of Martial-Arts Action Sequences, Drama(between both the antagonists and the characters themselves)
- AtlA fans will get major payoffs, as it takes place many years after the events of its succesful predecessor.
- Much like Dexter, the premise to Breaking Bad is controversial. Many ask whether his actions qualify as ethical, or if this a clear-cut "good" or "evil" character.
- Absolutely stellar acting, Directing, the list goes on.
- As with the premise, the setting is something that transforms from season to season.
- Take a very Cartoonish Setting on a once-considered dead franchise, and give it an injection of relatable characters, ambiguous moral quandries, a healthy dose of comedy/music, and an ever-changing design philosophy as the seasons continue.
- A Fandom that's produced more High-Quality content than you could imagine.
- All the episodes are free to watch via either DailyMotion or YouTube.
- Much like its Animaniac Ancestor, the list of Adult References, Allusions, and Innuendo is astonishing.
- Sort of a "fantahistorical" anime that much like GoT, characters can be dying left and right. No one is safe.
- The Titans being fought are difficult to determine in terms of motive. It's a mystery that still hasn't been completely solved.
- It's epic. God of War fans will be happy with the action sequences.
- The Late 60's setting has been tackled before, but most don't bother with the early 60's right before the social/sexual/political climate began to change.
- The level of detail for realism(both in wardrobe/acting/etc.) is top notch.
- It's very emotionally resonant, and isn't afraid to tackle hard issues. The episode The Wheel was what got me.

Arrow is one of the best newer shows. It's about the DC hero, Green Arrow, as he comes back after being stranded on an island for 5 years. He uses his new skills to assemble a team and protect his homecity after being overrun with crime. It has a little bleh drama moments, but compared to other shows on the CW... Yeah, it's fantastic, I watch it as it comes on. Season 3 is going to come on soon, and season two will be on Netflix shortly.
Supernatural. Two brothers were raised to hunt evil by their father, after their mother died in a mysterious and supernatural way. I would get why people wouldn't like it anymore, however it is still one of my favorites. Seasons 2-5 are gold!
Dexter. Yes seasons 6 and 8 were not enjoyable in any sense of the word, but the rest is worth it! Dexter is a serial killer who targets other killers. It's intense, bloody, full of dark humor, but can also be very feel-good. I love it.
I could see how it takes a little bit to get into Arrow, but that wasn't the case for me. I kinda like episodic stuff.

I thought Isaak Sirko was an interesting character, and had a decent enough twist put in.

Psych was likeable, and I truly miss Burn Notice.
Psych was likable up until the last two seasons where they just went...stupid?
As for Burn Notice, I could never get into that show. Every time I heard "As a spy..." I just facepalmed and switched the channel.

Lots of shows were already mentioned that I agree with, from The Wire over Babylon 5 to House of Cards and Adventure Time. Those and many more get a thumb up from me. One show that hasn't been mentioned, that's very dear to me and that I feel hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves is this:

Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James star as private investigators Hank Dolworth and Britt Pollack (who've discovered that working without a license greatly reduces the chances of losing a license). The two deal with the difficulties of their personal lives (Hank, a recovering alcoholic, still isn't over his ex-wife Gretchen, while Britt struggles as his relationship with student Katie is becoming more and more serious etc), while working on a variety of low-tier jobs like stealing a dog for someone after a break-up. One of Hank's old drinking buddies asking him to locate his estranged daughter eventually leads to the two guys finding themselves deeply involved in events that seem to be way out of their league.

From the writing to the performances there's really nothing I dislike about the show. It's heartfelt and sincere in both it's hilarious and dramatic moments, and the characters all have an enjoyable depth and realness to them. Sadly it was cancelled after the 13 episodes of the first season, but the story does come to an imo satisfying conclusion, as does the development of the characters. I watch it about once a year, usually with friends who didn't already know it.

At least for the first few seasons, I was definitely into it. My sister named her Child Dexter after the character, believe it or not.
He's methodical, pragmatic, but very careful in terms of who his "target" is. Whether he is man or monster is still a bit up to debate. I can relate to him quite a bit.

Season 7 really only existed to watch Jennifer Carpenter do the best acting she has done since the series began and Ray Stevenson was very good while he was on.
Otherwise seasons 6-8 were like a different show altogether and I think it was Scott Buck that made the difference. It was those seasons that he moved from a writer and producer on the show to the Showrunner.

This thread needs more Firefly!

Best Sci-fi show ever!
I would also recommend Stargate, Farscape, and Battlestar Galactica if Sci-fi is your thing. They are all really well developed character driven shows with great moments of Drama, Comedy, and Action.
Rome, Spartacus, and Game of Thrones are all Fantastic shows if you like historical drama and don't mind ALOT of Nudity.
For Comedy go with Scrubs, That 70's Show, or if you want a hidden gem look up a show called 'Titus.'
Slightly less awesome but definitely worth a mention:
The Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
Hell on Wheels
Vikings
Rescue Me
House of Cards
... I'll stop I could go on and on for awhile.... ![]()

One of my favorite shows at the moment! It's basically about the untold story of one of the greatest artists in all of history, Leonardo da Vinci. Set in the Italian Renaissance, we follow Leo during his mid-twenties as he makes friends with the Medicis (the first bankers), becomes an enemy of the catholic church, and meets a strange mystic who sets him out on a quest to recover the holy grail of lost knowledge. What I really love about it though, is that we get to see all of the inventions that he actually made drawings of when he was alive. The flying machine, the first submarine, it's all there! Of course, it is historical fantasy, so it's not like it's a documentary about his life or anything like that. I really recommend it though! ![]()
