So the thread 'Mass Relay question' (http://social.biowar...731095/1#731241) got me thinking. The mass relays were designed by the Reapers. Everyone else uses them, so we assume the Reapers rely on them too, especially since we see Sovereign lead a geth fleet through one in ME.
BUT mass relays are frequently used and monitored. Wouldn't someone have noticed a ship the size of Sovereign moving back and forth through them over the millenia?
So I'm thinking, maybe Reapers have a superior means of travel. Hyperdrive, teleportation, whatever. Yes, the Reaper armada requires a Citadel-sized mass relay to transport them from outside the galaxy, but Sovereign would still be traveling much shorter distances constantly without use of relay or risk of detection.
Ideas on how?

i thought Sovereign told shep that he had laid dormant waiting in that area of space as a scout/watchdog.
i could have misunderstood.
edit. or someone did. Saren maybe. arg cant think

I'd like to assume that Sovereign himself is basically a huge sentient Mass Relay, but that's only my personal theory. It's interesting, though, to say the least.

Vigil, the Prothean AI, explained it, though it was only a theory. But even though its probably true, he would still have to move around a lot while scheming with Saren.

The reapers have full control of the mass relay system or at least they did. So in one way they can use them without anyone necessarily knowing about it. However for purposes of ME1 we do get the information that MANY of the mass relays are actually turned off. Humantity was caught trying to turn one on and that started the First Contact War. So the relays are not necessarily monitored in any form. About the ONLY ones would be those that are on established routes. Since the reapers may be able to check usage they could always avoid travelled routes OR perhaps there are other relays which we do not have knowledge of which they could use. Besides so far as we know they ONLY leave one behind while the rest go out to dead space (doesnt make sense for only 1 reaper to be left which could be a reason for what we also see in the enemies reveal) but if only 1 reaper is around and that is taking care to not be noticed doubt it would be spotted. Indeed we do not know HOW Sovereign was 'found'. It may have wanted to be rather than been found accidentally.

You'd think they could track his movements especially after the attack on eden prime. However, keep in mind there is a vast network of Mass Relays that have never been activated cause citadel races are afraid of what might be on other side(see rachni wars). There's also all the relays in the terminus systems where the citadel member races never venture into. So even if Reaper relies on Mass Relays to travel, it was probably using ones that are "off the grid." Hence being able to travel undetected.

You're right, however when you talk to Virgil on Illos, he speaks of the Reapers aquiring followers to do the 'dirty work' for the reapers. As was the case with Saren, however it is possible that Saren went to the Reaper, and not the other way around, as seen with the Mass Effect books. Also who is to say that they do not have more advanced stealth systems that keep them hidden even after going through a mass relay.

maybe he did not have to move to monitor the progress of the lifeforms in the galaxy
keepers run the citidel, why do they not run the mass relays as well?
dont the reapers communicate with the keepers from across space to open the citidel relay?

Had another thought - could there be mass relays at some distance from stars? After all the volume of space you'd have to search to find one there would be huge and with FTL drive not too hard to them move into a planetary system.
