Is Skyhold Avvar?

Hi.

So I was thinking about the name of Inquisition's headquarters, Skyhold. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's never referred to as "the Skyhold", like "the camp" or "the Hawke Estate", i.e. no preposition. Which made me think this is a proper noun, and a name of a settlement. Then I connected Skyhold to the Avvars, a Fereldan tribe dating back to times before the first Blight (Andraste was one, or at least Maferath was). Sources such as codex entries and pen paper RPG manuals provide us with several names of Avvar settlements. They are Kinloch Hold (then made Circle Tower of Ferelden), Wyvern Hold, and Redhold. It seems Avvars add "hold" to the name of their settlements.

Now, I believe Skyhold to be a repurposed ex-Avvar settlement, just like Vigil's Keep was in Awakening. Since Avvars mostly lived in modern Ferelden, there is a high chance, if it is Avvar, that it is located in Ferelden.

Anyone with me on this?

what you said sounds incredibly correct, i'm with you on this. and avvar tribes do seem to be interactable factions in inquisition based on the videos on the game that have been shown so far.

Isn't Skyhold the Avvar fortress seen in the demos? Where The Inquisitor fights the Avvar leader?

The Hargrave Keep in this demo sort of looks like it to me:

That seems...unlikely to say the least, since Skyhold is a mountain fastness and Hargrave Keep is in the middle of a bog. It's hard for me to think of two locations more dissimilar than that.

Hargrave Keep is simply one of the many keeps around southern Thedas that the Inquisition captures and holds during the course of the game.

It does seem to be a seperate place, after Skyhold was already established. The narrator mentions Inquisition preparing for battle againt the Elder One, so Redcliffe must've been done already as well. I would assume getting Skyhold is one of the earliest things you do, and I would go as far as to say it is located near to Haven, in the Frostbacks, and you go there soon after the beginning of the game.

It could be Avvar, I think it is a ruined fortress of the imperium, though it could also be an old templar base or former grey warden fortress, but at this point we don't know. For all we know, it is some Elven ruin that Solas knew about. Here is some of the concept art for it.

It does seem unlikely that the Hargrave Keep is in fact Skyhold.

Aside from what others have stated about it... at the beginning of this demo, you see the Inquisitor interacting with the "war table" which is only accessed after we gain access to Skyhold.

The Frostbacks seems logical to me.

The Vimmarks seem too arrid from what we have seen, and not cold enough.
