The way I interpreted the Mass Effect universe, humanity has achieved a near utopian society. The planet is united, people live to 150 years and disease has been abolished...

Yet people still eat Ramen noodles...HAHA!

Obviously very wrong.

I think your all a little cracked.

My philosophy: I eat whatever makes me happy, but not so much of it that it'll make me unhappy.

To both the Health Food Junkie and his Nemesis I have the same response: Your ignorant if you believe the other guy is wrong.

The Health Food Junkie would be miserable if he tried to eat anything he thought was damaging to his body

The Nemesis would be miserable trying to only eat food that was healthy.

for the record, my personal opinion (which you don't have to agree with) is that only eating perfectly healthy food is like only having sex to reproduce.

What's wrong with eating healthy and exercising? Am I missing something here or is everyone just angry with the way Borschtbeet is handling his side of the argument?

It's obvious they're just angry because deep down they know their lifestyle isn't right, but they lack the willpower and motivation to change it.
They're fighting with me as a way to convince themselves that what they do is really perfectly ok.

See I just think there was a misunderstanding somewhere, because there have been some pretty harsh reactions to something most everyone can agree on. Eating healthy isn't a bad thing, but the way everyone is jumping at it you wouldn't be able to tell.

Once again, you're promoting the fallacy that one has to choose between taste and health.  If you don't think healthy foods taste good then you haven't been looking hard enough.

I do appreciate your attempts to resolve this sidetrack in my post though.

My life style is fine, thank you for asking, its just that they don't see the point in monitoring every little amount of food you eat. Eating at McDonald's or having some cake is fine every once in a while, you just can't eat it all the time. I am overweight not because of body fat, 13.5% of my body mass, but because of muscle mass and my height. ( im short, only 4.7 feet tall)

Your basis is so paranoid of eating unhealthily that it seems like a hassle. I have some questions for you, Have you ever ate a cheeseburger? Have you ever had cake or any other desert?

Eating unhealthily is fine every once in a while and I bet at least once in your life you have had to eat unhealthily (college for me, ouch)

That's silly. Sure Ice Cream and milk taste great, but so does chicken broth or steamed broccoli.

If your body fat is 13.5 percent then you are most definetly overweight.  A healthy adult male really should have nothing greater than a 10 percent body fat.  I personally only have a 4 percent body fat.

You don't need to monitor every kind of food you eat, you just need to know what NOT to eat.
For example, avoid simple sugars, hydrogenated fats, MSG, refined grains, corn syrup, aspartame and other unnatural perservatives found in processed foods.
Secondly, find out what your metabolic type is.  There is no one size fits all diet, some people's bodys react better to carbohydrate based diets, while others react better to protein.  You can get metabolic testing done by a professional or take an online test.
I am a carb based metabolic type which composes only 3 percent of the human population, by far the rarest.  As such my body prefers lots of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.  I avoid all meats, dairy, and animal products.

No, I have never had a cheeseburger or processed desert as I was raised on my lifestyle.

@ Mr. Gerbz

Don't get worked up man- Borschtbeet is clearly uniformed despite the shiny nutrition degree. I wouldn't listen to someone who still thinks MSG is bad (I'm pre med btw), doesn't capitalize 'Calorie' (a 'calorie' would not be worth counting as they are 1/1000 of the size), and wants to romance little girls. (yep, he actually asked if we could in ME2)

I was promoting no such thing. There are plenty of healthy foods that taste great, there are also plenty of foods that are the equivalent of gastric suicide that taste great. My policy is moderation over abstinence. Abstinence should be reserved for those who lack the self control to moderate.

MGS not bad?  You must consume a lot of it then since it has clearly fried your brain.

MSG is an excitotoxin.  It's has been proven to cause nerve cells to fire over and over again until they die.

I won't give your pedantic comment on my grammar the time of day.

Don't think you can intimidate me with your big bad pre med status.  Doctors are educated to cure sick people but plenty of them, including yourself obviously don't know a damn thing about preventing people from getting sick in the first place.
That is where I come in.

As for little girls...since when did 18-19 count as a "little girl?"

simple sugars are actually quite easy to break down and gives the body a quick energy fix, infact some simple sugars are needed by the body at all times for cell devision. Without these sugars your body would not function right. In fact you yourself in your diet probably obtain more simple sugars than I do, eating all that fruit filled with natural fructose.

I think you're convincing simple sugars with complex carbohydrates.

Simple sugars spike blood sugar levels and release insulin which will store the sugars as fat.

Thus simple sugar consumption promotes both diabetes and obesity.

Strangely enough, I'm finding this thread informative and interesting. With a hint of salt and flamewar sprinkled on top, and a dash of troll to give it that spicy taste.

I would also like to note: Only drinking water does not equal health nut, and to try and negatively confine anyone under such a constrictive definition has the same results as trying to wrap a net around a rainbow.

You do realize those reports are from the 50's right? Since 2005ish MSG has been regarded as harmless, even in large amounts.

Regarded as harmless huh?  By who...no wait let me guess.  The FDA right? (AKA Feeding Death to America)

Have you never taken a College Biology course? Fructose is a simple sugar, furthermore so is Galactose, a sugar that combines with glucose to form lactose. Galactose is one of only 3 sugars that help determine blood type, mainly the difference between blood type O and blood type B+. Galactose is furthermore important in the nervous system as it helps promote electrical impulses sent through the nerves to the brain. Don't try to think you are so smart, some people know more than you do.

When did i deny fructose as being a simple sugar?
Problem is that when you refine a natural source of these sugars say from sugar beets, sugar cane, or fruits you take out the stuff that is necessary for your body to make use of these sugars, most notably fiber which is essential for helping control blood glucose levels.

There is a big difference between eating whole fruit and drinking a glass of orange juice.  The sugar in the latter may be chemically the same, but the lack of other nutrients means your body will store it as fat quicker and increase your body's insulin resistance.

OP you need to chill out. I only got involved because it's the third time this week I've seen you being a jerk to people on here. I'll stop with my facts if you stfu

Back on topic... you actually made a pretty good thread
My favorite line is from a krogan on Feros I think. He is talking to a VI and says something along the lines of turning its "virtual ass into actual dust."

You yourself claimed that these things were carbohydrates, you also said that simple sugars were a thing to shun, I was just informing you of the importance of them.

(Quote) "I think you're convincing simple sugars with complex carbohydrates."

You said that to me about my statement about simple sugars, if you really don't know the major differences between the 2 than I question your competence on the subject. Yes simple sugars are needed in cell devision and in almost all life processes. Glucose is a simple sugar, what did you think plants used for energy continously, starch?
