DA headgear was always ugly. Between DAO's mage hats and various examples from all classes in DA2, the number of ugly designs was only surpassed by the silliness of the most extreme examples. Now, while there appears to be significant improvement overall and a few outright awesome designs ("The" hat), the default helmet exemplifies an unbroken tradition with its ugliness.

 

I do wonder....am I really so unusual that I can't understand why Bioware chose this helmet for their marketing campaign? I mean, I don't know which priorities went into its design, but "It looks awesome" was apparently rather low on the list. Or do people actually think it looks good?

 

The only reason I can imagine for a design like this is "It must be somewhat face-concealing as to not appear to prescribe an appearance, but at the same time not so face-concealing that the Inquisitor doesn't look human." And even within these boundaries, I imagine that a better-looking item could've been found.

 

What do people think?

Its hard for a company to lead off with the most epic looking thing in the game strait away. I doubt your going to find super duper cool looking stuff right away like some of the Skyrim armour mods.

I think the helmet looks fine, I like the elaborate dragon design. It doesn't mesh well with some other outfits which I think may be more the problem.

If anyone has played "Age of Conan" they can see the type of artistic design on arms and armor that I respond to positively. 

 

Everything else is more "fantasy crap".  That's just opinion, but I don't usually appreciate the artistic design of arms and armor in most games.  

 

That being said - I don't hate the helmet, but it certainly isn't the design I prefer.

A design looking awesome is rather subjective. What you may find awesome another person may find hideous. So who is to say that Bioware did or didn't design the default headgear as being "awesome" looking or not.

I don't find the default headgear ugly. The only problem I have is that it more than likely will once again cut off a dwarf's beard.

Bioware's headgear for the DA series may consist of misses but I have played plenty of games in which headgear truly does deserve being called ugly.

That you don't see a difference between a cool dragon helmet and the mage condom hats surprises me.

Ummmm... I think the iconic Inquisitor helmet looks really, really cool, honestly.

 

I mean, it's a dragon swooping down to form a metal helmet. That ranks as pretty badass-looking in my book.

I like open-faced helmets, myself.

I think it looks good. The Inquisitor's symbol of power. Also it probably looks the best on Humans.

It would be cool to know a little about the lore of the helmet and what it symbolizes as a whole.

I like the Inquisitor's helmet. I think it's a huge improvement over DAO helmets. I'm hoping the Mage caps are better, but there were some cool ones in DA2, so I'm not too worried.

I like the design itself. I'm just not a fan of how it doesn't appear to go with any of the armour sets we've been seeing so far.

Though, I wouldn't wear it on a mage Inquisitor.

I think it looks fine on lightly armored peeps as well, but if you're not a fan, then you have the hat... which also looks good.

I'm not usually a fan of headgear of any kind. This helmet in particular looks like an unnecessary safety hazard. But what do I know?

I really like the design. It sort of resembles a Corinthian helmet, but with a lot more decorations.

I think the helment is fantastic.

 

The mage hats in DA:O...ugh, I feel sick just thinking about them.

I don't know if I would want to use it as a Mage, though. Seems it fits Warrior-types better.

I like it actually but I am not really a fan of the way it looked on anyone other than the human male in the trailers. That's probably more to do with armour though.
