I actually really like the dragon helmet.
I'm considering to let the helmet stay visible.
...Seems I am late for the party
Still: I agree with the OP...that helmet does not look good (I like the design, but the part that protects the head (the dragons' wings) are too large and massive - and way too long (the wings should not go down as far as they currently do)...that thing must be heavy as well, which I would not like in a helmet...helmet-toggle off it is, if I have to wear that thing (if nothing better is to be had, at least at first))
I agree as well with people saying it does not fit a lot of outfits (like non heavy armor, leather or worse: mage robes!)...It looks stupid for a cloth/leather wearing character to go full-plate on the helmet...that's like wearing swimming trunks and a motorbiking helmet (which looks stupid as well ^^)...now we'll just have to add skiing boots to make it look perfectly riddikulous...*shakes his head and sighs* - I just want a normal, practical helmet without too much ornamentation (something that looks high quality without looking like a piece of parade armor (like Cailans golden plate armor, which while looking quite fetching is something I would never wear on the field - it draws too much attention...archers would all be aiming for you, as you are looking important with that on you...
)
greetings LAX
I have to politely disagree with the OP. I think the helmet itself is fine. If we look at how much progress BioWare has made since DAO, it's extraordinary. I never liked wearing helmets previously because they were all hideous. This is the first time I may not actually hide the helmet slot in a Dragon Age game.
I quite like the helmet. When you consider that it had to a) cover the entire face, b ) suit every class and race and c) look swanky for promos, the art team did a really good job.
I never hide the helmet I love being fully tanked out in gear and I like to rp a knight to me you are not a knight without a helmet
Until they bring the Mass Effect artists over to the DA team, art design will continue to be bad.
I think fashion is one of the least important things in my life.
Everyone has different tastes, so I'm not going to bash OP. I will say that I think there has been improvements from each installment of DA, from one to another. I can't say that you should compare what existed in times when people used swords, shields and heavy armors because this is a game. You could only ask the designers who created the armors why they chose, what they chose.
I haven't liked every single armor of DA, but I have liked a lot of what I've come across. With the new system they have in place, it seems they've made huge improvements in order to use the armor of your choosing and you're given the ability to improve upon it with higher tier materials. That's awesome! It may not be the best, but we also get the option to not wear anything at all with the invisible head gear option.
I know of games that offered head pieces that I loved, but when it comes down to it, it's really cosmetic. We can't have everything. Just try to find what suits you best and stick with it. It's not bad at all. You may be surprised that there is something you might like once you get in the game and find what's available.
I like it. Probably won't wear it much (I like to see my characters face) but i do like it.
If you don't like the helmet then toggle it off.
It's really that simple.
Also, since this is going to be the helmet we start off with were going to out level it quickly and just replace it anyway.
I really dislike having the face shown. Face covered is more mysterious and intimidating. If someone talks to you and they see your face, then they see another human (Or whatever race you are) in other words, they see mortality and weakness. Also if they cant see your face, they cant read your emotions. For me - having a mask instead of showing your face is power. While showing your face instills no fear or awe whatsoever. With a mask, your represent the unknown. An idea. A force. With a face... you are just another man / woman.
As for actual style:
For warriors I prefer Corinthian styled helmets but with a slight change, cloth under to cover most of the face. As for BOTH mages and rogues. Hoods in leather, chain or cloth with masks or cloth to cover the face.
If you don't like the helmet then toggle it off.
It's really that simple.
Also, since this is going to be the helmet we start off with were going to out level it quickly and just replace it anyway.
What's great about DAI, unlike previous DA games, is if you have the actual schematic for that armor set (I believe it's the Flames of the Inquisition set) you can actually craft it will better resources and the stats will improve. So for those who happen to like what BioWare has shown, you can always use that look even to the very end, as long as you have the schematic. This is of course assuming you get the Deluxe Edition, which comes with that armor set exclusively.

As long as option there to turn helms of i have no beef, disliked nigh every mage helm in DA:O an a few in DA2, although there was a few hoods i liked. Medium/Heavys and Massives aint far behind in them games either, but from what i seen in DA:I armor as a whole seems to be hugely improved from the body to the head, like that dwarf pc that was shown earlier in the twitch feed, the armor that boy had on was very nice to me, and that was low lvl, hopefully that sort of quality persists through out the game.
As to the Inquisitor helm, i like it, but like any hat/helm it will look good on some an stupid on others, to be expected i guess, as i said helm toggle ftw
If i use a helm in DA its these ones

Especially the RB Helmet but i use the MS and Hood aswell
Sorry for the mod photo i have no idea the actual game helmet that design belongs to
DA headgear was always ugly. Between DAO's mage hats and various examples from all classes in DA2, the number of ugly designs was only surpassed by the silliness of the most extreme examples. Now, while there appears to be significant improvement overall and a few outright awesome designs ("The" hat), the default helmet exemplifies an unbroken tradition with its ugliness.
I do wonder....am I really so unusual that I can't understand why Bioware chose this helmet for their marketing campaign? I mean, I don't know which priorities went into its design, but "It looks awesome" was apparently rather low on the list. Or do people actually think it looks good?
The only reason I can imagine for a design like this is "It must be somewhat face-concealing as to not appear to prescribe an appearance, but at the same time not so face-concealing that the Inquisitor doesn't look human." And even within these boundaries, I imagine that a better-looking item could've been found.
What do people think?
I'm not sure what you're looking at, what I'm looking at is great. Perhaps you need glasses?
Just kidding!
... about the glasses part.
Gotta love being a qunari. I don't have to wear that ugly helmet.
I like it, but I'm not going to wear it. ![]()

I like the helm.. at least for a warrior human male (I guess Rogue too, but I think it blends with the heavy armor better). Maybe not as much on others (what little I've seen of femquisitor seems a little oversized).
It looks particularly obnoxious on an elven character, plus non-warriors, and the helmet from yesterday's stream wasn't anything to praise about either -- Think I'll pass again.
I love simplistic, functionnal armor (Just like real life clothes). There's a tendancies in video game has the more you level up the more the helmet make you look like a big tool.
helmet I love

The helmet looks fine, but I'll probably hide helmets altogether. If I've spent hours in the cc I want to be able to see the face I created. Circlets or headbands for the mages would have been really nice, though. I would be fine with hoods for the rogues.
